Parks & Nature

I do a four-mile loop walk/hike that takes me up and down hills, past beautiful homes, through this park, high on a cliff overlooking the Pacific, then past our local peacocks as I wind my way home. Love it.

We have two beached here in Pedro -- this one and Cabrillo. Cabrillo is where all the fun happens, but this one is beautiful and scenic and far less crowded.

Food Scene

This is our favorite local breakfast/lunch spot. Perfect casual diner with really good food and always well taken care of.

This place is a little more fancy, and you'll need a reservation...but it's nice and worth it!

If you want to stay close to home but eat with a view, this is your spot. It's pretty typical seafood (with steak options), but they do everything just right, and the view of the marina is perfect.

Drinks & Nightlife

Not really a winery, but our local wine bar is adorable. Right in the heart of downtown, it offers flights of wine for $15 and small plates to go along with your quaff.

Our local brewery just opened and it's fantastic -- a huge open space, often crowded due to popularity but not too crowded to find a space to sit down and enjoy a conversation. Located next to Crafted, our arts and crafts artisinal shop, makes it a perfect sidebar to a daytime adventure.

Arts & Culture

This ship has been all around the world, and now it's stationed here in San Pedro. Worth the tour, and the view is spectacular.

Sightseeing

The Queen Mary was a cruise ship back in the day, but now it's permanently docked. You can tour the ship, or have dinner or drinks upstairs in the lounge, which is appointed just as it was when the ship was sailing.

Shopping

This series of arts and crafts booths, including blown glass, jewelry, paintings, etc., is set in one of the old port buildings. There are usually arts and crafts classes for kids, which are super fun. As an added bonus, it's immediately adjacent to the brewery, so if someone in your group thinks crafts sound painful, you can send him (or her!) over there.

Entertainment & Activities

This is one of the best aquariums in SoCal. I took my nephews and we were there for hours. They have fun movies and interactive experiences in addition to the sea lion show, penguin exhibit, and all that good stuff. I couldn't figure out how to tag it here, but right across from the aquarium is a place that does harbor tours, whale watching, etc. While you're here, you should get on a boat.

Spending the night in Catalina (the lovely island off the coast) is a great idea, but we're so close to the boat that makes the channel crossing that you can easily take the first boat out in the morning and the last boat home in the evening. It's not expensive, there's a ton to do in Catalina, and you'll be out in the open ocean for about a half an hour each way. So fun!
