A tranquil and secluded bespoke-built Shepherd’s Hut in an enviable location with stunning views. The hut has its own wood fired hot tub from which you can star gaze on clear nights. Our Shepherd’s Hut has been decorated in a comfortable “Laura Ashley” style by the owner – a retired designer. You will find a comfortable double bed, table and chairs, kitchen, shower room and toilet. The Shepherd’s Hut enjoys spectacular views from all windows across the Welsh countryside.
A continental breakfast is included for the first night and is available to buy after that if required. There is a dedicated parking area close to the Shepherd’s Hut with easy access to the accommodation so guests can come and go as they please. The farmstead is south facing with only one Shepherd’s Hut, which is not overlooked. Rather it is in its own secluded space. The farmstead is approached by a long driveway (don’t rush) then through gates. Our home was previously a working farm but the owners retired and sold most of the land to a nearby farm, so expect amazing uninterrupted views, lots of sheep and occasionally cows over the fence. The hot tub can be filled and the fire lit during the day before guests arrive for their first night. The tub is cleaned, freshly filled for each booking and the Shepherd’s hut is deep cleaned. We also always allow two days between each booking so guests can be assured of a high level of cleanliness.
If you can tear yourself away from the hot tub there is plenty to do in the area. Dolforwen Castle ruins are 1.5 miles away, Montgomery Castle ruins 8 miles, Powys Castle (National Trust) is 12 miles away near Welshpool, and Chirk Castle (also NT) is 35 miles. Glansevern Hall and gardens with its Courtyard Restaurant (Wed to Sun) is 7 miles. The Laura Ashley Factory Shop, Oriel Davies Art Gallery, Newtown Textile Museum, Robert Owen (Father of the worldwide Co-operative Movement) Museum, a cinema and a range of shops, pubs and restaurants are available in Newtown, 4 miles away, with Tesco’s and Morrison’s supermarkets only 3 miles away. The Bull and Heifer pub in Bettws Cedewain is 2 miles away.

The Stable is within walking distance of shops, pubs, restaurants and Powys Castle and steam railway. We are on Offa's Dyke and Glyndwr's way and other circular walking routes. We live in Calder Cottage adjacent to the Stable and we will be available when you arrive.
The Stable is around 140 years old and was built as part of the office complex for the Montgomery canal. We renovated the building in 2018 to create cosy accommodation for visitors. Downstairs we've included a kitchenette with hob and microwave so guests can make light meals. And we have a spacious toilet and shower room with hot water on demand. Upstairs there is a comfortable bedroom and living area. The whole building has central heating and is well insulated so you should be nice and cosy. There is also free Wifi. The stable is partly made for Criggian Granite, a lovely green solid rock quarried locally. We've kept one wall exposed so that you can enjoy some of the local geology without getting cold and wet! There is car parking space for one car. We are off Severn Street and access to The Stable and Calder Cottage is down a single track lane. Access to this is through a flat roof arch high enough for transit vans to get through.

Near by you can visit the spectacular Powys Castle Gardens, have a ride on the Welshpool and Llanfair Steam Railway or enjoy a gentle walk along the Montgomery Canal. A bit further afield there is Glansevern Gardens and Montgomery Castle. For a longer day out you can get to Barmouth, Cadair Idris, Centre for alternative technology ( Machynlleth, Llangollen Steam railway and Ludlow within and a 30 to 90 minutes drive. The West Wing is the complete annexe to an old Welsh farmhouse. Beautifully situated high on a hilltop in glorious mid-Wales, it manages to be both a quiet and peaceful place where you can do absolutely nothing and an excellent starting point from which to visit an entire region. Your hosts, Judith and Robert are well-travelled and enjoy meeting people from all over the world. Between us, we speak French, German and Italian as well as English and will gladly advise on trips out or where to eat.
The West Wing is a light-filled, peaceful haven. Once you pass through the big grey gates, the world of work becomes a distant memory. Sit and relax, either in the comfortable lounge/dining room or share a bottle of wine while watching the many birds that inhabit the garden from the airy conservatory. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster and kettle. We even keep the knives sharpened for you! And when it's time to go upstairs, enjoy a hot, solar-heated shower and then sink into the super-comfy beds with their crisp, white sheets for a peaceful night's sleep. Outside, the West Wing has a private sunken seating / BBQ area with a quirky seaside vibe. There is also a lock-up shed containing two barbeques (for large and small appetites), coals, fire-starting materials (including pinecones - so much nicer than paraffin) and cooking equipment. If you arrive with bicycles, you can also use the shed to store them safely.
Cefn Coch is a small, rural village. We do have a lively pub with beer garden, which is a great place to waste a sunny afternoon! Further afield is the town of Llanfair Caereinion (we can teach you how to pronounce it, if necessary!). This has a garage, several small convenience stores, butcher, baker and general hardware shop. If you want to eat out, there are three pubs and a chip shop.

  • Agradable casa rural, molt bona ubicació i interior molt acollidora.

    Chris2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Encantadora ubicació i allotjament. La comunicació de Judith va quedar atenta. Tot i que vam arribar més tard del que s'esperava, allà es va reunir i ens va saludar. Definitivament tornaré a visitar la zona, no puc queixar-me res.

    Roger2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • El lloc de Judith és espaiós, acollidor, modern i una casa real. Molt ben equipat per a autoservei i en una ubicació fantàstica.
