The apartment is located in a crofting/farming location. The property is also adjacent to our family run campsite. A very peaceful area only 4 miles from the village of Lairg. Please note: there are 2 grocer shops and gas station in the village of Lairg. We would also recommend The Pier cafe for lunches and evening meals which is also in Lairg.

Dit aixo, tot va anar molt be. Teniem cuina, sala d'estar, habitacio i bany.

  • Fantàstica vaina, ubicació i vistes.

    Ellie2019-04-04T00:00:00Z

Recently refurbished cosy, warm and spacious family home in the centre of the village on the Kyle of Tongue, one of the most picturesque spots on the NC500. Perfectly located for lots of fantastic walks (e.g. start of walk out to Castle Varrich is 2 mins walk from the house), exceptional and empty beaches (many within 10 mins drive), excellent local pubs and restaurants (2 mins walk) and village shop/deli (2 mins walk).
Ideal quiet place to unwind and relax. You don't even need to leave your bed in my house to see some of the spectacular scenery! You could start your day with breakfast in the kitchen with the front door open looking onto the view across the front garden and Castle Varrich. After a day out of long walks in the beautiful surroundings and fresh sea air, what better than to have a long soak in the bath before settling down on the dangerously comfortable reclining sofa (try not to fall asleep, it's easily done!) in front of the fire with a wee dram whilst admiring the views. Or take a short stroll down to the local pub restaurant for dinner (I recommend their seafood). My home is perfect for families and friends alike. All beds are full size and just as comfortable for adults as children. The kitchen dining table also comfortably seats five adults. I was born and raised in this pretty, friendly village and have left you a list I've written of my personal favourites for walks, food etc. to give you some ideas, which I hope helps.
Tongue is a small, friendly village with a pleasant number (i.e. handy amount, but not so many as to spoil the rural nature we love) of tourist facilities. The location of my home is perfect for families with children of any age, groups of friends and those wanting to take part in the local outdoor pursuits such as hiking one of the munros, fishing and shooting.

Armadale House is a Victorian Mansion built in 1854 on the site of a modest farmhouse. Almost fully restored to its former glory, a lot of work has been done to make the house a home again and to welcome guests.
Armadale House is conveniently situated along popular driving and cycle routes. Making Armadale an ideal place to stop and relax for a few days or to use as a base while exploring the Northern Highlands. I've always felt that by the time travelers arrive at the North Coast they've been moved by Scotland's beauty and a chance to reflect and recharge is welcome. Once settled, guests have the opportunity to organize photos, write postcards and begin to look ahead to their remaining journey. With a wealth of knowledge about local attractions I am more than happy to help you plan your stay.
Armadale on the North Coast of Scotland is one of three places called Armadale in Scotland. There is also an Armadale on the Isle of Skye, and another Armadale in West Lothian. Armadale at the North Coast is home to just about 50 people, so don’t expect to find shops and cafes in this little settlement (the closest shops are in Bettyhill or Melvich). Armadale itself might not be the most exciting place, but it makes up for this by offering visitors a beautiful sandy beach that is split into three different section by two small streams running through it (easy to cross). Most of the times, visitors will find that they are the only people enjoying the beach, especially if you go there in the mornings.

Clean and very comfortable. The tin tent is compact, bright and cheerful and an ideal alternative to being under canvas - sleeps up to 2 people. Self catered accommodation with electric, gas and all basic cooking essentials provided to make your stay more comfortable. Please note - there is no water to the Tin Tent. Toilet, shower & washing up facilities are located in the campsite facilities block (situated a very short distance away).
The tin tent is situated on our small, family run campsite which is adjacent to our croft where we keep a small amount of livestock. The campsite is just 4 miles north of Lairg. An ideal location for exploring central sutherland as well as the north, east and west coasts. Perfect area for walking, fishing, exploring or simply relaxing. The Tin tent is supplied with electric & gas. It has a small kitchen area which has a oven and hob, a fridge, and storage cupboards for your essentials. Although there is a sink in the kitchen we ask that you do not use this but rather the sink in the communal outdoor kitchen area. We provide basic cooking utensils for your use. The cozy and very comfortable living area converts easily to a double bed for a relaxing night's sleep. We can provide base sheets with pillows and sleeping bags should you require. The Tin Tent is heated. Towels are not provided. There is a separate bathroom/storage area for your clothes etc. Unfortunately the shower and toilet are not in use. Guests have access to the communal shower/toilets.
The Tin Tent and campsite are located in a crofting/farming location.

The village Smiddy now converted to a cosy and welcoming cottage with room for up to four. Situated right on the Northcoast500 route it is ideal for a stopover or a full week’s self-catering holiday with the children with all the beautiful North coastline to explore!
Our cottage is situated on the outskirts of the village of Reay and comprises sitting room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms, with a double bed and a single bed. A fold-down bed can be added to either room to make room for a fourth guest - possibly best suited for an extra child. Two beds in the smaller room is quite cosy but does fit! It is probably best moved to the sitting room for a fourth adult. Plenty parking off the road and we can store bikes under cover as well. Newly redecorated and carpeted it is cosy and welcoming!
This peaceful village is near to a sandy beach and picturesque harbour and Reay’s renowned links golf course is within walking distance. The village shop is very handy for supplies and fuel. Reay is only a ten minute drive to Dounreay and only ten miles to the town of Thurso where you will find shops, pubs, cafes, cinema, supermarkets, restaurants and walks and history in plenty. There are ferry services from Scrabster, Gills and John O' Groats proved a service to Orkney. Head west to Melvich (seven miles away) and you will find a shop, post office, café and restaurant and another beautiful beach! Worth noting that the nearest supermarkets are in Thurso ten miles away so please plan accordingly when shopping especially if arriving from the West. Again for eating out you have to visit Thurso (East) or Melvich (West).

Melness is a unique area. Just turn off the NC500 route to enjoy the most wonderful white sandy beaches the largest of which is in front of our house. The seals, which can be heard as well as seen. Down by the causeway you could be lucky enough to see wild Otters, Eagles Sea Eagles, Curlews, Oyster catchers, Herons, Buzzards and other birds of prey. (Don't forget the binoculars!) There are many walks to be enjoyed - long - and 'not too long', Hill walking on Ben Loyal or Ben Hope, our local Munro. The views from the top are magnificent - to the west coast and Caithness in the east. If water is more your medium, then launch your canoe and explore around the Rabbit Islands, only a few hundred yards off shore with their isolated beaches - or if more adventurous there is the wonderful coastline around Whiten Head - and some of the highest cliffs in the UK. Many people bring their windsurf boards and enjoy the length and magnificent views of the Kyle of Tongue. There is much local history; Brochs of the Iron Age to battle sites of the Clans and the Lochen where Bonnie Prince Charlie's gold is said to have been buried. No amount of metal detecting has brought it to the surface! We have information on walking in the area to local history. There is a museum in Bettyhill, to the east of us, devoted to the Clearances . We shall be happy to advise you on the area/walks in and around Melness and as David is a keen photographer he is able to point you in the direction of the best vantage points as well as give you the opportunity to purchase some of his favourite views - in case the weather is not behaving during your visit! We look forward to meeting you and will do all we can to ensure you enjoy your stay in this beautiful part of the world.
