We work with the Taste and Sustainable Tourism. It's a kind of tourism that is fleeing from mass tourism to something more original and authentic. The feelings, sensations, smell, smiles are the goods that we like to offer to our guests. Welcome!
FARINHA DE PAU - TASTE and TRADITIONAL TURISM
FARINHA DE PAU is a guest-house specialized in providing a relaxing place where to stay with all the traditional feelings of São Nicolau Island in Cape Verde.
We are a true Eco Project and the project developed based on the philosophy of permaculture, which aims at a sustainable and harmonious development with the environment.
Who we are?
We are a family, I'm Sergio Machado, Brazilian and I live in Cape Verde since 2006, Simone, daughter of earth, Tarrafal in São Nicolau, and our two children, Leonel (10) and Naomi (4 years).
We became permacultures and our desire is to show people that there can be sustainable development, and not causing negative impacts on nature, but rather collaborate with her.
Today, we not only produce our house, but we training people on how to do it in order to pass this message and to make our world better.
The Natural construction is a building method, which is part of the philosophy of Permacultura where only uses resources available in the field itself, with the earth as the basic raw material. In this method, local raw materials are used as well as recycled materials in construction and functionality throughout the house.
The water system is fully prepared to recycle the most of water, and avoid waste, including sewage system, which in our case was developed with our own technology, using recycled tires, avoiding that they were burned, releasing toxic gases to the atmosphere.
Energy is created by the wind through a turbine, contributing to a greener and cleaner consumption, since in Cape Verde, power generation is through burning fossil fuels, highly polluting.
Our means of transport also uses green fuel, developed by recycled cooking oil, which would go to the sea and contaminate the coast.
It's 23 € per person at least 2 nights, without breakfast, (7 euros)
We recomend a complete meal service with Lunch and Dinner. All food are from the island and produced without chemicals.
Praia Branca is a bucolic village with its narrow streets, reminiscent of some villages in central Portugal and Italy. It was in this atmosphere that was born the most famous Morna, Sodade, internationally known in the voice of the eternal muse Cezaria Évora.
Natural beauty - The Farinha de Pau - Eco Project is located just 20 minutes from one of the 7 wonders of Cape Verde, the Carberinho. But not only, with a short walk you can reach the Boca Ribeira, an area by the sea, with a fabulous scenario. On the left side, you have a incredible view the back of the Praia Branca Peak, with its huge cliffs, and a sandy beach at the base, with access only by the sea. And in the right side, with a light walk, we arrive at a delightful natural pool known as Rotxa Furód (Pierced Rock), where in front of the pool, there is a rock which prevents the waves arrive, but she has a hole through which only pass the water movements generated by the waves. This creates a fun Inside the pool movement, where you can float and let the movement take us freely. Around the pool, the black sand provides a perfect place to make a picnic and spend a good time there. More forward, you will find the seven lagoons. Are small natural lagoons, which linked together, they create a nursery for small fish and other animals. Pass some time there with a diving goggles is a delightful hobby, it can be observed numerous coral, colorful fish, shrimp and other animals who frequent these pools. Praia Branca Peak is another great activity to do. Climb the Praia Branca Peak and watch all area from the top is fantastic, and you can not miss this opportunity. Behind the Farinha de Pau is a beautiful mountain, which you can practice climbing, or simply walk through the trees, and have a picnic in their shadows.
