Atherstone Farm Cottage is a beautiful and newly refurbished grade II listed thatched cottage in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone in Somerset, two miles from Ilminster. Its rural location and carefully restored interiors make it a great countryside bolt-hole. Both bedrooms are ensuite, one with a roll top bath and shower, the other a walk-in wetroom / shower. The house also has a modern kitchen, with a separate utility room, and a large stone-floored living and dining room with a wood-burning stove.
With a stone floor, ancient beams and thatched roof it's the picture of a romantic country cottage, but now updated with a modern kitchen, bathrooms and entertainment system. Its rural location makes it a great escape for those looking for a countryside bolt-hole, with plenty of pubs to walk / cycle to and things to see and do nearby, and convenient shopping in Ilminster is not far away. There are two comfortable bedrooms, both en-suites., with deep mattresses, 400 thread count cotton bedding, indulgent mattress toppers and fluffy bathrobes, so you can truly settle into the cosiness of the cottage. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and a spacious bathroom with a roll-top bath and walk-in shower. The second bedroom can be arranged as a superking-sized double or with two single beds. Its bathroom is a walk-in modern wetroom with heated stone tile floors. The house has a large living area for four people, with a long dining / sitting room. The sitting room has comfortable sofas, a wood-burning stove set into a large stone fireplace and is equipped with a 55’ flatscreen internet-connected TV with a Bluetooth soundbar that can be used to play music / radio through the TV or from a Bluetooth device, or just envelop those who want to relax with a movie. Atherstone Farm Cottage is part of an old grade II listed farm that has been part of the Dillington Estate since at least 1725. The cottage is found at one end of the farmhouse - with the other half of the house also available to rent as a separate 4 bed house. The two are joined through lockable doors on the ground floor for the convenience of any groups renting both. The farm is in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, which is surrounded by fields and woods that are accessible on foot and bicycle through the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths. Nearby there are several pubs, some within walking distance – like the Barrington Boar – others a little further, but worth cycling or driving to, such as the Dinnington Docks or Lord Poulett Arms. Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else. There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another. A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40mins or so to the South, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 mins or so to the East.

The Bothy is a stylish detached cottage where you can share some Prosecco on your terrace or in your orchard or snuggle up beside a log fire Dating from the 1700's, our newly restored "boutique" stone cottage is in the rural historic Yetminster Conservation Area with a thatched CAMRA pub. It is in the beautiful garden of our quintessential English Heritage listed thatched cottage You have great access to our lovely Dorset countryside & the Jurassic Coast One fixed price; No cleaning charges
Bothy Cottage is in a delightful rural location with horses in the adjacent fields, chickens across the road and a dairy farm just up the lane. I am so happy just pottering around our home here. We want you to be warm and cosy during the cooler months (& English summer), so the Bothy is heated with electric radiators (controlled by you) and a wood burning stove. We include electricity, kindling wood, fire lighters and logs for your stay. Help yourself to more logs from the store behind the Bothy, if needed. The kitchen facilities are suitable for modest cooking and include a single induction hob, microwave with grill & oven facilities, small fridge/freezer, electric kettle, toaster, filter coffee jug, etc., plus a washing/drying machine. There are two BBQ's suitable for loose charcoal or plonking a disposable BBQ on top. For walkers, Downs Lane opposite leads to various footpaths and access to the local Vecklands Millennium Wood (Visible from your cottage). The Macmillan Way footpath is 200 yards down Brister End. We can chat about various other places to go using your car. In my view, we are in a cyclist's paradise with loads of lanes and a variety of bridleways (Some very muddy) to suit casual through to the serious on and off road bikers (There is a huge specialist triathlon TriUK superstore in Yeovil). You may lock your bikes in one of our sheds. Once you are off in your car then the Jurassic Coast, the sea, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door & Lyme Regis are some 40-50 minutes away and then there are the National Trust places, including Montecute House, Stourhead (Fabulous landscape gardens with the Spread Eagle pub for food).
Yetminster is a village with a load of listed buildings dating from the 17th Century, about twelve thatched cottages (The locals could not afford proper tiled roofs) and a Grade 1 listed church (St Andrews). The thatched White Hart pub (Run by Blanche & Alex) has a variety of locally sourced beers and ciders (Local labourers were paid with cider until the 1950's) plus good pub grub. I have cycled to over 100 local pubs so I can give you tips on them.

There are three friendly local pubs within easy walking distance, the Monkton Inn is just 300 yards from the end of the drive, the Merry Monk and the Maypole inn are situated about a mile away and easily walkable. We are situated at the foot of the Quantock hills and is the perfect location for keen dog walkers, walkers, bikers or horse riders to take advantage of the area. Samuel Taylor Coleridge's cottage in Nether Stowey is only a stones throw away over the hill. The West Somerset coast is not to be missed hosting the legendary west Somerset steam railway, a 22 mile heritage railway line from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, the medieval village of Dunster with its castle, yarn market and quirky shops and tea rooms. A wonderful day out for all young and old. The beauty of Exmoor with it rugged coastline are not to be missed and most accessible. We are close to the famous Somerset levels renowned for its rich wildlife and has the largest lowland population of breeding wading birds, great for any ornithologist or amateurs alike with many walkways and hides. Autumn and winter is a particularly wonderful time to visit with the famous starling murmurations easily accessible and many guided tours taking place. Glastonbury is a thirty minute drive.
West Monkton is an extremely friendly village. There is the local pub ‘the monkton inn’ only 2 minutes walk from the accommodation. Another two pubs close by both within 1.5 miles.

The cottage has a lovely feel, with wood burner and Aga. Rural, but easy access from the M5, and parking for two cars. Fabulous place to use as a base for good walking & exploring the South West. A car is necessary & a desire to be off the beaten track, although good food & beers a 10-15 min walk to the village. Large rooms, comfortable furnishings, quality linens. Fully self contained with central heating and everything that you would need to make an enjoyable break.
A quiet cottage attached to Walders Court, a grade II listed property dating from the 1600's. Used as the setting for the novelist R.D. Blackmore's novel, Perlycross, he being more famous as the author of Loorna Doone. Private and tucked away with your own entrance. Ideal for those needing a stopover, easy access from M5, J26 or J27, or those seeking a base to explore. Excellent walking, and a short 45-60 minute drive to Exmoor and Dartmoor. Entrance is via a flag path that leads from the parking area to the front stable door of the Cottage. The front door leads directly into the kitchen/dining area. This is a spacious room, equiped with an Aga for cooking and warmth, (separate heating system on thermostat to ensure the cottage stays warm) dishwasher, and washing machine, plenty of cupboard storage and a small fridge freezer. A kitchen table, large enough to seat six completes the area. An open staircase leads from the kitchen to the upstairs bedroom. The bedroom overlooks the entrance courtyard and the entrance gate. Furnished simply, with a 5' bed, comfortable mattress & quality linens. En-suite bathroom, with bath, washbasin and toilet. Returning to the kitchen. From the kitchen, three shallow steps lead you into a small open plan cloakroom area, with storage for coats and shoes. Access to the ground floor shower room and toilet is located here. The cloakroom leads to the living area. The living area is a light and airy space, with a small woodburning stove. It is furnished with a two seater settee, and a two seater pull out bed settee. Television and wifi access available in the living area. Please note - we are a rural community with slow broadband speeds. If you wish to stream movies, the broadband often fails. It is reliable for emails and other applications that need less speed. Outside, access from the front door is the small side garden. This is for your sole use while you are at the cottage. The garden is surrounded by a shrub hedge, beyond which is a country lane. As the season progresses the garden becomes more private and secluded as the shrubs become leafy. During the winter the garden is more exposed due to the nature of this hedge. BBQ and fire pit available for your use. Points to note. The ground floor living room can be easily used as a bedroom, with the shower room close by. The lounge opens from the cloakroom area, and although there are no doors, because of the dogleg style, there is privacy if it is to be used as a sleeping area. The main bedroom is accessed from the open plan stairs that lead from the kitchen, so any noise from the kitchen will be easily heard from the bedroom. Some windows, overlook the courtyard of the main house. These will not affect the privacy of the Cottage, as you cannot see into the Cottage from the courtyard. Finally, for those very tall, (over 6ft) the shower is fairly compact due to restricted ceiling height - feedback from guests are that the shower area is more than adequate for tall persons!
We live at the foot of the Blackdown Hills in Devon. We sit underneath The Beacon, a short 10-15 minute hike up the hill to a fabulous 400 year old ancient monument used to call all good men and true, to arms, to ward off the Spanish invasion. The Blackdowns are one of the Westcountry's hidden gems, forming a tranquil, beautiful, and relatively isolated landscape on the Devon and Somerset border. Steep ridges, high plateau, valleys and springs create a charming mosaic of countryside dotted with farms, villages and ancient features. We are a 15-20 minute walk from our local village, where you can find The Culm Valley Inn, renowned for it's locally sourced food, real ales and lively atmosphere, a true village pub. Crossing the ancient packhorse bridge will bring you along to the Strand Stores, great for a good cup of tea and slice of cake, all home made, with lots of goodies to take away. We are equal distance between the North and South Devon Coastline. An hours journey can take you to the delights of these shores, into the moors of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Slightly further afield is the Eden project, but very accessible as a day trip. If you are a National Trust member, we have several properties on our doorstep for you to explore. Full details of what you can find are in our 'Welcome Pack & Information' on arrival

Reimagined and upstyled into a supremely modern urban retreat, this gorgeous home was once an unassuming rural barn and is now a fabulous hideout for two. Set within a picturesque corner of Somerset’s tranquil countryside, the historic town of Wells is just four minutes’ drive away and offers the option of boutique-style shopping excursions and fine dining, for those guests who are keen to venture out. Positioned within wild meadows and farmland its design allows it to seamlessly blend in, with a large glass door inviting the outside in and flooding the space with natural light and fresh country air. The property’s interior is an eclectic mix of retro styling and industrial chic with darker wall hues contrasting the soft, tactile furnishings and bespoke lighting reflecting off the architectural steel beams. The living area is open plan in layout, with a modern kitchen and dining area providing the perfect space to create and share meals together. Stretch out on the sofa in front of the wood burning stove and enjoy cosy evenings in; or snuggle up together and have your very own movie night in. This private bedroom is one of 3 guest rooms within an indoor courtyard (atrium), all set in a self built Eco house, surrounded by woods, scrap, art and artists, workshops, walks, etc...if you are in need of creative inspiration or encouragement , or you just want a quiet couple of nights in the country.. That's us!! 10 miles from Bath and Bristol. Close to Glastonbury, Wells, Stonehenge.
What makes it unique ? Well, what doesn't!! First of all I would suggest reading some of our reviews. We are very proud to have over 600 reviews across our 3 listings, and you won’t find many that are unhappy :-). There are probably not many places like this (in England at least)... It's more like a West Coast USA house as seen in Lloyd Khans amazing books (look him up). This is our own self-built eco house set in 5 or 6 acres of its own land. The house itself is in a private area, but within the grounds of the property there are many other spaces including a therapy suite ( you can book separately for massage, acupuncture, hypnotherapy etc) , workshops for metal and woodwork, recording and rehearsal studio, a part time vegan cafe, a huge and eclectic collection of obscure artefacts from aeroplanes to gypsy caravans, and anything in between!! It is also home to upwards of 20 other people who are engaged in work with circus/ festivals and events management. There is an early stage forest garden , solar hot water and electric and more being added daily. There is always something new at Rockaway! If you're looking for somewhere fastidiously neat and tidy or you're scared of spiders it's probably not for you , but if you like what you see, we'd love to have you here ....,( although of course we do our best to keep it neat and tidy, I am just trying to put off over- fussy guests :-) We like to think we understand the ethos of Airbnb and the desire to change the world for the better by encouraging conversation and the sharing of ideas. We have found the whole experience to be thoroughly rewarding and we hope you will too. Please note we have another (cheaper) room available in the house, with two single beds and a shared toilet, and also an apartment that can sleep 4 comfortably. We are able to accommodate extra people, so if you're traveling with kids or friends and think our listed rooms are too small to fit all of you, please enquire. Look forward to meeting you. Mark and Marta
The house is set in approx 6-7 acres of land part of which used to be a scrapyard and some of which we still run as such. There are woods and great walks very close by and good bus connections for Bristol, Bath, Wells and Glastonbury. We are about half a mile from the village of Temple Cloud in a secluded, redundant stone quarry. There are mature oak trees all around the house and the site. We still run a van dismantling business from the adjacent yard and help out from time to time with artistic projects involving scrap, including photography, film and video projects. If you're looking for inspiration or looking to meet people to help further your ideas and plans , we may be able to point you in the right direction or hook you up with the right people... I'm hoping that the B and B will just help to make further and far reaching connections and not just be a soulless interaction... Of course though we are just as happy for people to come and just chill. Tourist attractions in the area include: Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury Tor, Roman Baths, Wells Cathedral, Wooky Hole Caves, Bristol city and all it's attractions from amazing graffiti art to Brunel's architectural achievements.
