Allotjaments a St Agnes
Our attractive, modern, ground floor coastal apartment, with its own decking, for one or two guests, enjoys magnificent sea views, is a stone's throw from Perranporth's wide, golden, sandy surfing beach and is very close to village amenities. It contains everything you will need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Wi-Fi throughout. Central heating. No cleaning fees. Parking to rear. The coastal footpath is just outside our front gate. You will never tire of the view; it will keep you spellbound.
If there is a one night vacancy showing on the calendar, between other bookings, please message to enquire about availability. The whole apartment is centrally heated, double glazed and has Wi-Fi throughout. I don't charge a cleaning fee and we also don't charge extra for electricity or for the central heating. Located here in glorious Perranporth, Cornwall, enjoying the most incredible far reaching views, with a landscape which is constantly changing, yet we are only a stone's throw away from the beach and everything which the village has to offer - eateries, shops, bars, pubs etc. You can walk everywhere. We have provided rattan chairs, a table, and full length loungers on the apartment's decking, where you can dine alfresco, all the while drinking in the amazing view laid out before you. Early risers can experience a Perranporth sunrise from a decking viewpoint. We even provide throws and a hot water bottle to keep you warm and toasty should you wish to sit outside when the weather turns chillier. There are windbreaks, seating and mats for the beach located in the main hall. From the decking, step through the French doors into the main living area. Here we have a large flat screen smart television with NETFLIX for our guests, DVD player with dvds, dining table and two chairs, a very comfortable leather two seater recliner sofa, coffee tables and a fully equipped kitchen area. There are ample cupboards and worktop surfaces with fridge (including a small freezer compartment), microwave, electric oven, ceramic hob, toaster and kettle. The apartment is equipped with stainless steel saucepans, Pyrex dishes, white tableware, a selection of various glasses (wine/champagne/tumblers), cutlery, place-mats, tea towels and many other sundries. We have provisioned it with fresh milk, tea, instant coffee, cafetière with ground coffee, drinking chocolate, biscuits and condiments. Dish washing, cleaning items, bin liners, J-cloths etc are kept beneath the sink. Additionally, there is an iron, ironing board, and portable clothes dryer. We have also put out binoculars, board games and playing cards and a selection of relevant books about Cornwall and paperbacks to keep you entertained. There are lots of leaflets in the apartment detailing Cornish attractions, including discount vouchers too, along with a set of tide tables so you can keep an eye on what the sea is doing. I am more than happy to drop off a daily newspaper for you as I always nip down to the village to get my own first thing in the morning. The apartment's main front door is located within this area. Walking through to the bedroom there is a wardrobe with plenty of hangers, lots of drawer space, bedside cabinets with matching lamps and a king size bed made up with a king size duvet and attractive bed linen. In addition there is a wall mounted Smart TV with DVD player (there are some DVDs in the apartment should you wish to watch them) on which the internet can also be accessed and NETFLIX for our guests. Additionally, there is a hairdryer and bedside clock radio. The fully tiled en-suite shower room, with heated towel rail, has an excellent power shower and towels (one bath and one hand towel per person) provided, along with various toiletries eg shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc. We have our own private car park to the rear of the main property. Check out is at 11am but we are more than happy for guests to leave their car for a few extra hours after this time so that they can eke out their break just a little longer before their return journey. Just ask. From our apartment you can look across to the exact spot on the cliffs opposite where Winston Graham wrote the novels Ross Poldark and Demelza in the 1940's. Of course, most of the filming for the television series Poldark takes place around Cornwall, and hereabouts. The beach is famed for its wide expanse of golden sand, which is cleaned regularly throughout most of the year. It's a tremendous walk to the other end of the beach (just watch out for the incoming tide!) or to meander along the sandy dunes. It's great for surfing, with a surf school practically on the doorstep (closed during the winter months, although there are others in the village open all year round). Lifeguards patrol the beach for your safety during the busier months. Storm watching can be wild and exciting in the winter months, especially if the tides are exceptionally high, when the beach takes on a very different character. Watch all the excitement from inside without getting cold and wet outside! Access to the coastal footpath is practically on our doorstep and it's a glorious walk to St Agnes, which is about four miles away across the cliffs. Or to Holywell Bay in the other direction. The Watering Hole, located on the beach itself, is a very popular bar/restaurant to view some of our amazing sunsets over the ocean. Perranporth Golf Club, enjoying breathtaking views up and down the coast, is one of Cornwall's finest links courses and is only a 1.4 mile drive away. Perranporth Tennis Club has six grass courts and three newly resurfaced floodlit hard courts. It is open to visitors and is only a 0.5 mile walk away from us. The nearest riding stables are just under two miles from us by road. The local doctors' surgery and Boots the Chemist are extremely close, should you require their services during your stay. The bustling cathedral city of Truro is only nine miles away (try The Heron Inn overlooking the Truro River at Malpas, which is just a couple of miles drive/walk from the City centre); the famous Eden Project 26 miles and St Ives 24 miles distant (hint: drive to Lelant Saltings or St Erth then take the train right into St Ives, a very memorable scenic railway journey, albeit quite short, as driving around St Ives can be quite challenging). If you're a Doc Martin fan then why not go to Port Isaac which doubles as Portwenn in the series. We love having lunch at The Budock Vean Hotel (TR11 5LG) at Mawnan Smith, 21 miles away, followed by a walk through the beautiful grounds down to The Helford River (think Daphne du Maurier's Frenchman's Creek). Their Cornish cream afternoon teas are such a treat too: large, homemade scones, with lashings of Cornish cream and Boddington's strawberry jam, along with a selection of delicious homemade cakes. Travelling widely over the years has given us an insight into what travellers like and expect. We have, therefore, used this knowledge when setting up the apartment for our guests. However I am always very open to any suggestions to make your stay with us special and memorable. If you think we've forgotten something, therefore, please don't hesitate to let us know. We don't charge a cleaning fee either. So come and share our view with us. We guarantee you won't be disappointed. Please also see our other Airbnb listing for four people: www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/19563456. This apartment is located on the opposite side of Bay Court's main hallway
We have travelled fairly extensively over the years and we both think that the beach here at Perranporth has got to be one of the very best beaches in the world. Come and experience it for yourself.

Perranporth, Cornwall, Regne Unit

Secluded, self contained, 1 bedroom apartment in our home by the sea. Bedroom, bathroom (shower), living area with kitchen. Living room with TV (Netflix, iPlayer ...) sofa, dinning table & chairs, kitchen (hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge & freezer.). Bathroom with shower, sink & loo. Bedroom with king size bed, wardrobes. WiFi, USB ports, Bluetooth speaker. The flat has private parking by it's own entrance (key code access). Not suitable for babies or children and we are keeping it pet free.
It's a cliff top house, overlooking the sea and beach, on the edge of the village we love, Perranporth. To get the great sea views in the photos you do need to step outside the flat and go up the stairs to the top deck, that you can use anytime. From the flat you do have a limited narrow view of the sea down the side of the house (see current photo 13), but it's worth going up the outside stairs ! From the property, walk down to the beach and Perranporth village with plenty of shops, surf schools, restaurants, pubs and cafes. OR turn left onto the coastal path. St Agnes is a bit under a 90 minute cliff top walk. Dinner and a taxi back is a great evening. The house, including the flat was completed in late 2017. We tried to take on a lot of current "eco" build ideas in that the house is well insulated (triple glazed windows, sheeps wool in the walls), and has most of the internal air continually refreshed, not from vents and gaps, but a ventilation system that gives more filtered and dehumidified fresh air into the building than a traditional property. There is some more obvious tech in that the light switches give multiple scenes, the bathroom lights are PIR sensor triggered and the blinds are on remote controls.
Droskyn headland is at the south end of Perranporth beach, at the edge of the village.

    Karan2019-03-22T00:00:00Z

Sloe Barn is a 200 year old rustic, open plan, top floor only, basic barn conversion in the heart of the wild and stunning North Cornish coast. 1.5 miles from Porthtowan beach, it's set within a working family home and smallholding with log burner, sofas and king size bed.
Sloe Barn is an ancient and rustic barn, the top half of which is partially converted into a basic, large, open plan room with log burner and slate hearth in one corner surrounded by 2 snuggly sofas. You will find a fridge, kettle and toaster (no kitchen/cooking facilities) and large pine farmhouse table, a comfy king size bed with feather and down duvet/pillows and a basic en-suite shower room with electric shower, loo and hand basin. The basin currently has only cold water but there is hot water from the electric shower permanently. (plans to put in a hot water tap soon!) The walls are traditional bare Cornish granite. The barns is double glazed and its sole heating is with the 9kw log burner but there is an oil fired radiator should you get chilly. Towels, breakfast of granola/fruit/bread for toasting, tea/coffee making facilities and log burner starter kit all provided along with access to wifi. You are more than welcome to have a glass of wine in the garden/field of an evening if you so choose but we prefer it to be mainly a place for you to spend the night as this part of Cornwall has so much to offer during the day, but all within reason of course - you are more than welcome to eat breakfast in one of the many nooks and crannies of the various gardens! The views from the top of the barn steps over the valley and fields with grazing animals are truly open and fabulous, as is the sunset. The space downstairs is simply storage for the clutter of home life and not accessible to guests. Upstairs in the barn is normally used as hubby's office space/a bit of storage when not being stayed in - rustic and basic it may be, but a lovely space it certainly is - we hope you'll agree!
We are in the middle of nowhere - peaceful, secluded but utterly accessible to most of what Cornwall has to offer. 3 mins drive from Porthtowan beach, 10 mins from St Agnes (if that), close enough to get to the A30 fast but without the drone. Skinners Bottom is a hamlet in the middle of a small triangle of three villages - all with shops, pubs and post office facilities! An amazing farm shop/bakers/butchery school is just a 2 mins drive away with some say the best Cornish pasties and selection of local produce this part of Cornwall has to offer! The wild north Cornish coast awaits your hiking shoes/surfboards/bikes for adventures a'plenty!

St Agnes is a very cool neighbourhood with great restaurants, pubs, cafes, a park, art galleries and plenty of shops, all a short walk away. The Apple Store has a super comfy bed, wifi, Nespresso coffee machine, wood burner and a basket of goodies to welcome you. We are best suited to couples, solo adventurers, business travellers and well behaved furry friends (of the dog variety).
The Apple Store has a super comfy bed with pure French linen bedding. There is also a Nespresso coffee machine, mini fridge, wifi, TV and a wood burner to keep you cosy during colder months. We provide Cowshed toiletries, super soft towels, and a basket of goodies to welcome you. You have your own entrance gate to the property and are free to come and go as you please. There is an outside table and chairs and a fire pit to keep you warm under the stars or to use as a barbecue. We provide some logs to get you started but can supply more for a small additional cost. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Please discuss this with us when booking. We really want to make your stay as relaxing and lovely as possible so please let us know if there's anything we can do to ensure this happens.
St Agnes is one of our favourite spots in Cornwall (although we are probably biased). It always feels buzzy, even in the depths of winter. There are some great places to eat and drink and you'll find everyone is super friendly. Particular favourites are the Sorting Office for fabulous coffee, Schooners for breathtaking views and fantastic food (both brunch and dinner), the Taphouse for good food and fab atmosphere, the Aggie for a great cooked breakfast and the Driftwood Spars for a good night at the pub. Trevaunance Cove is a great beach to have as our local. We are only 15 minutes' walk away and you can surf, kayak, swim and walk your dogs all year round. There are so many other amazing beaches nearby including Chapel Porth and Porthtowan (with the fabulous Blue Bar being the most wonderful spot to have a cocktail (or pint) and watch the sunset). Perranporth (about 5 miles away) is another great dogwalking beach, particularly out of season when you can sometimes have the entire 2.5 miles almost to yourself! We are also only 8 miles from Truro which offers some great shopping, a beautiful cathedral and some good dining options.

The Taphouse, Bear Bar are also located in Peterville which are great for lunch, and there's also a chinese restaurant and takeaway. Cosy self contained studio for two near the centre of St Agnes. Own entrance, private garden space, ensuite shower & mini kitchen with combi microwave/oven. Super kingsize/twin beds so great for couples or sharers. Close to pubs restaurants & bakeries. 15 minwalk to the nearest beach. Breakfast goodies include bread, cereal, marmalade, tea, coffee and plant/nut milk of your choice. Everything offered is vegan so take advantage of the treats offer, or just use the space as a base. All welcome.
The studio is attached to our house but feels quite separate because of its own entrance and private little garden just behind it.
St Agnes has a wonderful community feel with events throughout the year, including our very own Giant Bolster weekend in April, Street fair in May, the carnival in August and various other events throughout the year. If you’re a fan of live music the this is the place for you. There is music in the village on most Thursday and Saturday nights, and an open mic/jam at the Driftwood Spars pub on the first and third Sunday of each month from around 4pm There are cafes and shops and traditional pubs, one of which has its own micro brewery. We have two grocery shops, three bakery's (one of which is vegan) and a couple of green grocers. The pubs and restaurants in the village are really embracing veganism and we now find ourselves spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out. There are also several galleries, gift shops and a museum. There are weekly drop in yoga, art classes and a film club. St Ives, Falmouth and Penzance are all within an hour of St Agnes, and have vegan cafes/options aplenty.

Located on a private lane with private parking and access through a tiered garden, The Pound is a two bedroom (connected rooms) L-shaped flat. The front door leads into the lounge with bedrooms to the right. From the left a step takes you into the kitchen with the bathroom on the left.
‘The Pound’ is a quirky two bedroom (connecting rooms) log cabin flat. It also has a lounge, kitchen and bathroom and is accessed via a zig zag path leading up from a designated parking area. When we bought the house 6 years ago, The Pound was a dog grooming parlour, hence the name, which was in a very bad state. We renovated it for two of our sons to live in and a few years on, and both sons having moved out, it is now surplus to our requirements, so have decided to rent it out for you to stay in to enjoy the Cornish experience. We have tried to think of everything you would need during your stay to make it a home from home holiday. At the front of the property there is a storage box which houses recycling bags and where your bagged rubbish can be stored for collection on a Thursday evening. As we are close to the A30, which can be seen from the front of the property, there is traffic noise outside but not within the accommodation. There is a table and 4 chairs on the patio at the front of the property but as the property is surrounded by large trees there is only direct sunlight in the morning. To the left side of The Pound there is a small gate which gives access to our garden which you are more than welcome to use on sunnier days and meet our friendly Labrador, Jago. Located between Illogan, Portreath and Redruth there is easy access by road to each. Jenn's Diner is a family-run American style diner a one minute walk away. The Track is a five acre cycle facility based near Portreath and is less than 1 mile away. The Track is suitable for ALL types of mountain bikes, E-Bikes, BMX bikes and balance bikes and all ages and abilities. Kernow Hydro pool is also situated on this site. The Cornish mining town of Redruth town is a 10 minute walk away and there is easy access to all surrounding towns and villages via the public bus and train system. Redruth is home to a variety of exceptional pasty shops, individual shops, cafes, cinema/theatre and boasts the home of the famous William Murdoch, the first man to invent domestic gaslighting. His house can be visited and his invention is celebrated with Murdoch Day every year during mid June with an exciting programme of events including children’s dance and art procession, all day music and entertainment, a street market, old time fair exhibitions and a variety of live concerts and other events around the town. Redruth also hosts an annual Pasty & Mining Festival each September. The event is focussed around the town centre. The Friday is Mining Day, the Saturday is Pasty Day and the Sunday is Memorial & Fun Day. Activities on Pasty Day include cookery demonstrations and ‘make your own pasty’. Portreath is the closest beach, being only 3 miles away. With Porthtowan, Gwithian, Hayle, St Ives, St Agnes and Perranporth all a stones’ through away on the north Cornish coast. Each beach is unique boasting beautiful golden sand, cliffs and rocks with miles of coastal paths ready to be discovered with The Pound being a great location for you to relax after any expedition, however being close to the A30 there is traffic noise in the garden, but not inside the accommodation. Overlooking both Camborne and Redruth and reaching up to 738 feet above sea level is Carn Brea which is 1.8 miles away. The Carn can be seen from most high ground in Cornwall and the monument on top easily picked out. Conversely the view from the top of the Carn takes in both coasts and a good deal of the Camborne/Redruth conurbation. What is not apparent from any distance is the size of the monument, with it being a 90 foot high granite obelisk. The huge hexagonal column was erected in 1836 in memory of Francis Bassett, Lord de Dunstaville. The Bassetts where the most important mining family in the area and had lived in Tehidy for over 700 years (Tehidy is now the largest area of woodland in West Cornwall. Now managed as a Country Park, Tehidy has over 9 miles (14.5km) of paths and 250 acres of peaceful woods and lakes to explore, together with a café and a picnic area. Francis Bassett was however the first to be elevated to the nobility due to his efforts to raise an army of miners to defend the port of Plymouth from the combined Spanish and French fleets. Another legacy of the Bassett family is Carn Brea Castle. It is suggested that it started out as an Elizabethan hunting lodge, was a Victorian folly and is now a restaurant. Carn Brea also has associations with the legendary giants of Cornwall. It is said to be the home of the giant Bolster who when standing could put his other foot on top of St Agnes Beacon over 10 miles away! Cornwall's capital city Truro is 11 miles away. Truro Cathedral is located in the centre of this thriving Cornish city and wonderfully situated in the middle of the duchy of Cornwall. Designed by architect John Loughborough Pearson, it is one of only three cathedrals in the UK which has three spires. Completed in 1910 it is a magnificent example of gothic revival architecture. A must-see place to visit in Cornwall with free entry. The Bissoe Cycle Path is a coast to coast trail that links Portreath harbour 11 miles across the county to the port of Devoran on the South coast. In the 1800s, this trail was used as a mineral tramway for the copper mines around Redruth. The Eden Project (Cornish: Edenva) is a popular visitor attraction in Cornwall. Inside the two biomes are plants that are collected from many diverse climates and environments. The project is located in a reclaimed china clay pit and is 33 miles away. The Minack is a unique theatre perched on the cliffs high above the Atlantic ocean where they hold musicals and operas every summer, together with music, comedy and story-telling events. The Minack is 27 miles away. St Michaels Mount is 17 miles away. St Michael's Mount is a tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall. The island is a civil parish and is linked to the town of Marazion by a man-made causeway of granite setts, passable between mid-tide and low water. It is managed by the National Trust, and the castle and chapel have been the home of the St Aubyn family since approximately 1650. St Ives is classed as the dazzling jewel in Cornwall’s crown. A picturesque fishing harbour and seaside town and listed as one of TripAdvisor’s top 10 European beaches. Here you can wander through the maze of narrow cobbled streets, independent shops and fisherman’s cottages and only 17 miles away.

Liberty Cottage is a beautiful, recently renovated Cornish bolthole in the heart of the friendly coastal village of St. Agnes. You can easily walk to Trevaunance Cove and the shops and restaurants are literally a couple of minutes away.
We love St. Agnes and we wanted to find another bolthole for our small holiday business. When we walked into Liberty Cottage, we knew our search was over. It's small but perfectly formed with original, refurbished sash windows, cosy bedroom and a tiny outdoor space where you can leave your surf board or buggy. We have tried to create a house that has all the comforts of home, plus the practical stuff you need for a self-catering break and the luxury of a boutique hotel. When we go on holiday with our two young children we want good beds, high quality bed linen, a good dining space for family meals, Wi-Fi (so the kids can play Minecraft when they are worn out from surfing!) and candles and cosy blankets for long conversations over a bottle of wine when the children have collapsed into bed. We think Liberty Cottage gives all of these things plus it is right in the centre of St. Agnes which is just a fantastic, unspoiled coastal village, busy and friendly all year round with the beach, lots of cafes and restaurants only a short walk away. We also have another house in St. Agnes. You can find it at www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/11000678?s=51
There is something special about St. Agnes! Yes, it is on the stunning North Cornwall coast, yes, it is a World Heritage site and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty but it is more than this. We think it’s a little bit magical! It’s been called ‘Neverland’ by the locals as people don’t seem to grow old there and it is steeped in history and legend. The myth of the Giant Bolster is celebrated every year in the Bolster Pageant which is one of the many festivals held in St. Agnes every year. Reminders of the towns mining heritage are everywhere and the landscape is peppered with the ruins of the old wheals. The village is home to a busy, thriving community all year round and you will get a friendly welcome wherever you go. There are lots of independent shops, some small artist’s studios and some great places to eat and drink. And of course there is Poldark! Some of the scenes are filmed up on St. Agnes Head so keep your eyes peeled for dashing Captain Poldark and beautiful Demelza when you’re walking the South West Coast Path!

The Linhay is a recent conversion of a charming stone farm building situated in a secluded and peaceful position, in beautiful rolling countryside north of Truro. The luxurious accommodation incorporates many traditional features of the original barn, but uses cutting edge energy saving technology to minimise its environmental impact. A quite superb location close to the bustling cathedral city of Truro, yet also within a 15 minute drive of the spectacular coastline around Porthtowan & St Agnes. Dog friendly.
Situated 4 miles north of Truro, yet only 7 miles from the golden sands of Perranporth, the sleepy hamlet of Tregavethen is an enchanting rural retreat where you can find true peace and quiet, broken only by the sounds of local wildlife and the odd passing tractor. The Linhay was a traditional agricultural building that has been sympathetically refurbished into a quite superb two bedroom holiday home by its very caring owners, who live a short distance away. The accommodation benefits from a sizeable open plan kitchen / living space with dining table and sofas, and French windows opening onto a secluded patio area. There are two large en-suite bedrooms, one of which also has French windows to the garden so is a great place to enjoy a morning coffee. The Linhay is a particularly environmentally friendly place to stay with cutting edge energy saving technology including solar panels, an air source heat pump, LED or energy saving light fittings wherever possible, and a rain water harvesting and recycling system. There is also a cosy wood burning stove to keep things really warm on cooler evenings. One of our luxury, dog friendly holiday cottages in Cornwall. Accommodation Ground Floor Only: The open plan living room is bright and airy with a high ceiling and exposed beams, and incorporates a kitchen, dining area and living area with 2 large sofas. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and an en-suite bathroom with an over-bath shower. There is a further twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room and French windows opening onto a secluded garden. Both bedrooms are fitted with attractive, locally made pine furniture. Exterior: The private garden is on two levels, with both grassed and patio areas with unspoilt rural views, external furniture and barbeque facilities. Facilities & Services There is underfloor heating throughout, heated towel rails in both bathrooms and a wood burning stove (with an initial supply of wood provided - extra complimentary logs available on request in winter). The fully fitted kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, induction hob, kettle, toaster, fridge / freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. In the living area there is a flatscreen digital TV and a DVD player. WiFi is available at the property. There is an iron and ironing board. A highchair and travel cot are provided (please bring bedding for travel cot). Accessibility information: There are no internal steps in the cottage, and small raised thresholds at the front and patio doors. The lower garden and patio are at the same level as the accommodation, and can be accessed from both inside the cottage and from the flat grassed track running beside the cottage. The upper garden has wide, shallow steps (approximately 4 inches high) to it. Miscellaneous Electricity, heating, bed linen (apart from travel cot bedding) and towels are all included. Guests are to provide their own beach towels. There is off road parking for up to 2 vehicles. Up to 2 well behaved dogs will be permitted at a small additional cost of £25 per dog/per week (please bring towels for dogs and do not allow them on furniture). Regrettably no smoking is allowed. For those wishing to sample the enormous strength of the Atlantic Ocean will do well to bring their surf boards to the Atlantic Coast. From Chapel Porth above Porthtowan, passing Perranporth, along to Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay at Newquay, up to Trevose Head and Polzeath past Padstow you will find all the best surfing beaches in the South West, of not only Cornwall but also England. The cliffs surrounding these beaches are nothing short of dramatic. In contrast to the gently rolling shores of the south coast, the north have dark mysterious drops where land has been eaten by the atlantic ocean, hence why the waves are far better here. Inland you will find Wheal Coates Mine, now looked after by the National Trust, part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. St Agnes is part of only 12 sites in Cornwall awarded Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Newquay is not only famous for Fistral Beach, but Newquay Airport connects the county to places such as the Isles of Scilly, Edinburgh and Alicante. The Saints Way Trail is a 30 mile path from Padstow on the Atlantic Coast to Fowey on the South Coast. Padstow is more commonly known as Rick Stein country following the success of his numerous businesses in the town. Lucky really that the National Lobster Hatchery is just a stones throw away. Wadebridge, once a Market Town is now more widely known as being part of The Camel Trail, that takes the cyclist out to Padstow from the depths of Bodmin Moor. Occupying a dramatic valley location with one of the most spectacular and beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Coast, Porthtowan has been drawing visitors for years to take advantage of its natural sun trap. A superb location for a holiday to Cornwall with a fine beach and close to good main roads means that you can easily explore the surrounding area on days that are not conducive to sitting on the beach. Porthtowan has one of Cornwall's finest surfing waves. Producing good waves at all states of the tide, the wave is particularly good in an easterly or south easterly when it really pumps with some lovely hollow barrels. It is not for the faint hearted and beginners should be careful. An excellent surf school operates from the beach. At low tide the beach stretches down to St Agnes Head and Chapel Porth Beach where you will find a lovely National Trust Cafe full of warming hot chocolate and fabulous views. The city of Truro is 4 miles away and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 12 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. Harbourside towns & villages such as Fowey, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is within easy reach. The Cathedral City of Truro is in the heart of Cornwall and offers a wealth of facilities for the visitor. Dominated by the stunning cathedral, it is one of the south west's most attractive cities. Lemon Quay plays host to many events throughout the year including the Cornwall Food & Drink Festival in the Autumn and the famous Truro Fatstock Show just before Christmas. Regular farmers markets occur every Wednesdays & Saturday and there are also arts & craft markets on Saturdays. There is a wonderful range of shopping for the visitor including all the regular high street stores, but Truro also has a wide range of more specialist stores. It really is worth a wander through the back streets and alleys to find some fabulous little boutiques. Truro has a superb range of restaurants from Bustopher Jones & Mannings on Lemon Street to the always popular Pizza Express. There are lively bars, pubs & nightclubs including the superb Old Ale House, a busy Wetherspoons and the infamous L2 if you are so inclined!
