Escape to the beautiful wilderness of the North Cornish coast, close to Port Isaac & Polzeath. Stay in a handcrafted shepherd's hut with curved ash beams & Salamander wood burner on a converted railway line. Relax in your own private hot tub with only the local cows for company. Or explore the nearby woods, go swimming, fishing & boating on the magical freshwater lake. A perfect break for couples or a solo traveller wanting to unwind. For updates check "Free Range Escapes" on social media
The shepherd's hut is based at Cornish Tipi Holidays/Weddings also known as Tregildrans Quarry and this is our beautiful second hut at this unique site. Both huts have their own individual character, the biggest difference is that Bluebell hut has its own wood fired couples hot tub - perfect for relaxing in style in the great outdoors. The site has a woodland valley folded around a clear, spring-fed lake created from the old quarry. The hut is at the top of a secret 20 acres clothed in ferns and bluebells, oak and meadowsweet. Undisturbed by modern agrochemicals and herbicides the natural ecosystem has flourished, providing a thriving habitat for flowers and butterflies, birds and mammals. It’s a place a world apart from the rush and clutter of the modern holiday experience, with an atmosphere that makes you forget the world outside, and just lounge, ramble, or potter about in a boat. The Shepherd's Hut itself is situated in a recently reclaimed part of the site on the old railway line which was taken out in the 60's, reclaimed by nature until now! Guests will have full access to the whole site & all its faculties. 20 acres of woodland to explore and a freshwater lake to swim, boat and fish in. As well as your own secluded garden space complete with an open fire and garden furniture & couples wood fired hot tub. The shepherds hut has its own private compositing loo and wooden shower shed (made partly from pallets) both outside. You are of course allowed full access to any of the other loo/shower blocks on site. There is also electricity!! Solar powered lights & USB sockets make it easy to charge items or read a book after the sun goes down. However please be aware that there are not any standard plug sockets in the hut. The aim is to have created a space which makes you feel like you are out in nature & the elements but with more comfort than basic camping.
At Free Range Escapes you are a five minute drive from some of the prettiest villages and most spectacular coastline in Cornwall. You can buy fresh mackerel, scallops and crab in the fish cellars at Port Isaac within 10 minutes of leaving your Shepherd's Hut, go sea kayaking under soaring cliffs at Port Quin or take a surfing class on Polzeath’s trend setting shoreline. We have some phenomenal walking right on our doorstep; the Cornwall Coastal Footpath, the Saints’ Way, but unfortunately a car is still usually needed to get you there. 15 minutes up the coast brings you to Tintagel Castle and the ancient village of Boscastle, and the same distance inland lets you walk the rugged solitude of Bodmin Moor. We have a variety of good shops, pubs and restaurants in the area including the now nationally famous Seafood Restaurant in Padstow – book a return with the late water taxi across the moonlit estuary from Rock for a special evening out. You can go on fishing trips, bird watching walks, sea safaris, sailing and windsurfing courses, learn to ride, golf, play tennis, see a touring theatre production, work in watercolours, take a master class in seafood cookery, explore Cornish history, attend a music or literary festival, or just go cycling together on the beaufiful Camel Trail nearby. If you’re prepared to go a little further afield try a day trip by tiny plane to the glorious Isles of Scilly off Land’s End, or a trip to the Minack Theatre set outside on the cliffs high above Porthcurno, or closer by visit the massive biodomes of the ever popular Eden Project.

'Captain's Cabin' is a great base for exploring the incredible North Cornish coastline or relaxing on the decking with a good book and our homemade cream tea! You can walk across the meadows to Tintagel Castle, village pubs & cafes galore! Explore the lane up to National Trust land and the dramatic coastpath where you can head southwest for 3/4 of a mile to Trebarwith Strand or head in the other direction to Bossiney Beach, Rocky Valley & famous Boscastle Harbour.
Captain's Cabin is a unique and cosy hideaway set in the large garden of the main house. It is very comfortable with a good quality mattress on a king-sized bed & an en-suite with a large, hot shower and a walk in wardrobe. There is WIFI in the cabin, a TV, a small fridge and tea making facilities. The Cabin has private use of very simple kitchen facilities (fridge, freezer, microwave, single hob etc) which are available in the separate barn (which can be cold!). There is ample parking available at the main house & it is a level walk across the grass to the cabin.
Trevillick is a quiet, tucked away hamlet 1/2 a mile from Tintagel. Along with a stunning sea view in many directions, it is also surrounded by the most beautiful countryside and has direct access down a dusty (or muddy!) track to stunning National Trust land and footpaths in every direction! Tintagel is a small and friendly village which is famously linked to the legend of King Arthur. Don't forget to grab a pasty at Pengenna's! The most delicious and largest pasties known to man! Tintagel Castle and the beach is around a 1 mile walk from the cabin along the dramatic coastline. From here you can also walk to Trebarwith Strand, Bossiney Bay, Rocky Valley, Boscastle and beyond! There are also gorgeous places to visit in a car such as Port Isaac, the famous fishing village, which is a 20 minute drive and Wadebridge, a lively hub where you can hire bikes and cycle along the camel trail to Padstow, a snazzy fishing port.

Stay in this hand-crafted Shepherd's hut that is hidden away in Primrose Cottage's beautiful garden. The Shepherd's hut has a toasty wood-burner, comfortable double bed and is self-contained with your own cooking facilities, ensuite bijou bathroom- complete with a shower.
This hut was made using reclaimed materials by myself and my good friend Mike. Since making this hut we have started a business together making shepherd huts called Pumphrey and Weston. In the hut there is a kitchen with single hob, wood burning stove, shower, toilet and basin. The double bee is a comfy memory foam mattress.
St Mabyn is a picturesque Cornish village, with a great pub, shop and church. It is located near to Polzeath, Tintagel, Rock, Port Issac and Padstow. The Eden Project is about a 30 minute drive.

A warm welcome from us (and our dog Woody) await you in our cosy old terraced house, just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Wadebridge. Slate floors, beamed ceilings, quaint rooms and a pretty garden, your own shower room, along with a comfy bed/s and good wifi. There's plenty of shared space downstairs - a garden room, sitting room, dining room, and large kitchen you are welcome to use.
Kim & Guy invite you to come and stay in their lovely old terraced house in Wadebridge, in beautiful Cornwall. The house is Grade 2 listed and has lots of interesting history. The oldest rooms date from when it was a small detached farmhouse - 1770 we're told. It was then 'added on to' on either side to become part of a terrace (1800's). The kitchen ( and your bedroom above it) are the 'modern extension', built in 1901! We have a lovely beamed first floor double bedroom available, with two windows overlooking the garden. It's slightly separate from the other bedrooms in the house. We try to make it really comfortable, & have included the things that we appreciate ourselves when we go away. This includes things like a bedside table and lamp each side of the bed (most important!). Just outside the bedroom is a little private area with various teas, coffee, biscuits etc are provided - feel free to help yourself. There's also a little fridge for your sole use. Since the photo was taken we have upgraded the bed to a comfortable 5' King size, that can be split into two 2' 6" singles - just let us know on booking how you would like them made up. We've also added a table and chairs so you have somewhere to sit. There's a good internet signal in the bedroom, and an Amazon Echo Dot. If there are 3 of you travelling together, we can make up an extra bed on a floor mattress for an extra £20 per night. The shower room is almost en suite, next to the bedroom and again a bit separate from the rest of upstairs. It's 'sole use' while you're with us, and we provide towels on request. We also have a nice downstairs sitting room for your use, (with a TV/DVD), and a dining room off the kitchen with ceiling beams and a slate flagged floor. You are welcome to use our kitchen/diner. We know how expensive it can get when you're on holiday & have to eat out all the time. We only ask that you eat meals downstairs rather than in the bedroom. We're happy to lend wine glasses etc to take upstairs. You are welcome to use the garden. It's nice to sit out in the evening when the weather's warm. We also have a secure lockable shed in the garden if you bring bikes etc with you. We also have a studio in the garden where I make glass beads - these are for sale, or can be handmade to order while you're here. Or even better - learn to make your own 'flameworked' beads (£45 for a taster session of approx 3 hours) - and have something special to take with you when you leave! PARKING: Parking is on the road at the end of the terrace, or just up the road or round the corner. Just to note that particularly in high season, the road outside gets busier with visitor parking as we are so close to town. The road gets MUCH quieter after 6.00pm, so that is an ideal time to arrive. Having said that, we (and guests) have always been able to park within one or two minutes walk of the house. You can always pull in to the lane right in front of the house to drop off luggage, you just can't park there. If parking is a worry for you we're always happy to move our own cars for you to park. As an absolute last resort (we've never had to), there's a pay and display car park at the bottom of the road.
Wadebridge is fabulously located, just 6 miles from the stunning North Cornwall coast. It's a small, pretty market town, with a pedestrianised shopping street full of independent shops - lots of little gift shops, pubs, deli's and restaurants. From our house it's just 5 minutes walk down the hill into town, so no worries about drinking and driving if you head out in the evening. In the town itself, there's plenty of places to eat and drink. This includes several traditional Cornish pubs, Indian restaurants, Chinese take aways, tapas bars, pizzerias, and plenty of small independent cafes and restaurants. We're happy to give you recommendations! Wadebridge has a lovely park, and the River Camel runs right through the middle of town. Alongside the river, the Camel Trail runs all the way to Padstow, 6 miles away to the west, and Bodmin to the East. This is a traffic free trail specifically for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. It's a beautiful place to stroll as it overlooks the river and then Estuary, so it's popular with bird watchers and photographers too. There's plenty of bike hire places in town. Wadebridge also has a sports centre, and a twin screen independent cinema too, so there's lots to do in the evenings. If you walk up the road rather than down, you're in open countryside within 5 minutes, with plenty of public footpaths & quiet county lanes to explore. Within a short drive (8 miles) is the pretty fishing port of Port Isaac (of Doc Martin/Fishermen's Friends fame). The historic villages of Tintagel & Boscastle are just a few miles further up the road. The surfing beach of Polzeath, & the gorgeous beaches of Rock & Daymer Bay are 7 miles away. Padstow (7 miles) is a really pretty harbour town. It's home to Rick Stein and is well known for its fabulous range of restaurants. Again, you can safely cycle there from the house, and from there walk to a number of beautiful beaches. Many of the beaches face west so you can get amazing sunsets over the sea. Newquay, with good surfing beaches & nightlife, is 15 miles away. The Eden project approx 20 miles. We can tell you about lots of little hidden gems as well! Being fairly centrally situated in Cornwall, nowhere is very far away. A tour of Poldark Country down the A30 is easily do-able in a day. Obviously Cornwall is really popular in the summer, but personally we love it in the spring and autumn, when it's still mild, a lot quieter, and still as beautiful. And don't forget the wild winter waves....

Right in the heart of the famous village of Port Isaac, this little cottage is just a few steps from the harbour. Full of character, with low ceilings and bijou rooms, this is a proper old Cornish cottage! Fisherman's Cottage has the advantage of TWO free parking spaces just 150m away!
This small but atmospheric cottage is just a few steps from the harbour in the heart of the famous village of Port Isaac. The living room / diner and separate kitchen are both limited in size and headroom but that is all part of the charm of staying in a cottage such as this in the middle of such a wonderful village. The bedrooms are both twins (due to the difficulty of getting large furniture upstairs) and located on the first and second floor. Stepping out of the stable door onto Middle Street is like stepping into pure Cornwall! A lovely narrow lane leading to the charming harbour and beach that Port Isaac is so famous for. The Slipway Hotel, the pubs, the coffee shops and of course Doc Martin's house are all here. Please bear in mind that Fisherman's Cottage is an old cottage with narrow steep stairs, low ceilings and of limited size. Accommodation Ground Floor: Compact living room and dining room. Small fully fitted kitchen. First Floor: Twin bedroom and bathroom. Second Floor: Twin bedroom with sea glimpses from the window. Facilities & Services Heating is via night storage heaters. The kitchen has a range of equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge with freezer box. The sitting room area has a flatscreen digital TV & DVD player and CD. There is an iron & ironing board. WiFi is available at the property. Miscellaneous Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. Regrettably no smoking or dogs are allowed. There are 2 free, dedicated parking spaces 150m away at the Old School Hotel. Visitors are able to drive up to the cottage for the purposes of loading and unloading luggage. General Booking Information Arrival / Departure is normally a Friday. Short breaks are available during quieter periods. £100 pre-authorised to your credit or debit card as a security deposit is required.
Port Isaac, tucked away on the North Coast between Padstow and Boscastle, has recently been home to the television series 'Doc Martin' with Martin Clunes. Although previous years have seen the series Poldark film here and in nearby Port Quinn. Much of the village is 18th and 19th century and there a wonderful narrow streets and alleyways to explore. It is a maze of narrow lanes and pathways known as "drangs" with only one road through, along which traffic is discouraged. The houses are traditional stone built, slate hung cottages. As with many places in Cornwall, once having relied heavily on fishing and fish processing, the village now caters for many visitors with plenty of shops and eateries for the frequent visitors. In the heart of the village are a pub, two hotels, two cafe / bistros. There are other pubs and a cafe at the top of the village. There is a bakery, delicatessen, fishmongers and a well stocked Coop supermarket. Fish may also be bought from the local fishmerchants in the fish cellars by the harbour. There are also the usual art and craft shops. Those interested in fishing may hire a local boat and fisherman. Kayaking may also be arranged in the village. The National Trust coastal path runs through the village and provides spectacular walks over the cliffs. Many places of interest are in easy reach: Pencarrow House, Tintagel, The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan along with many others. Padstow is close by with its many restaurants and attractions. It can be visited by the foot ferry from Rock and trips may be made out to sea, with puffins on the nearby islands at the right time of year. At Rock there are excellent beaches and boats may be hired from the sailing school along with windsurfers. Other good sandy beaches are at Polzeath and Trebarwith, both of which cater for windsurfing. There is also Daymer Bay, a famous windsurfing spot. From Daymer, it is just a short walk to St. Enedoc church where Sir John Betjeman is buried. Wadebridge has shops of interest and makes a pleasant wander round.

Compact twin room in ground floor apartment with storage, sink/wash space, full length mirror and sea view. Use of lounge with Sky/Netflix/Wi-Fi/wood burner. Kitchen with food storage and cooking equipment, large table. Bathroom with bath and shower
A lovely twin room suitable for one or two guests. The room has a lovely sea view of Port Isaac Bay, with views over to the quaint hamlet of Port Gaverne and the rugged north Cornwall coast.
Port Isaac is a picturesque Cornish village located on the rugged north coast of Cornwall. Made famous for various TV programmes and films, most notably Doc. Martin. If you stay before August you have a high chance of seeing the latest series being filmed! There are some lovely restaurants/cafes in the area serving locally sourced produce and great seafood. We have an uninterrupted sea view, that on a warm sunny day is breath taking! There are a couple of pubs locally - The Golden Lion, and The Port Gaverne hotel, both of which are friendly and welcoming. The village has the finest seafood on offer with three seafood restaurants. Nathan Outlaw's restaurant is a stones throw away and has two Michelin Stars, his other one Michelin star restaurant is in the heart of the village. Our personal favourite is The Mote as we have had some great times and equally great meals there. The CO-OP is a 5 minute walk where you can purchase most things. On alternate Friday's the local shanty singers 'The Fisherman's Friends' perform down at Port Isaac Harbour, not to be missed! The village is not really suitable for wheelchair use or for those with mobility problems due to the hill down into Port Isaac harbour and Port Gaverne.

The Cottage is placed right in the historical centre of Port Isaac and after a recent renovation is one of the smartest and cosiest in the village. The Cottage, nicknamed 'Bert's Cabin' is a champion of traditional design which is neatly reflected in its unique panelling. Bert's Cabin is the perfect romantic or family get away if you're looking to spend a relaxing few days by the sea. Dolphin Street is situated behind the harbour which means you are very much secluded from the crowds.
My aim is to provide something original, beautiful and ultimately very different from the standard white washed rentals that have lost the character that we love about Cornwall. The bedrooms have double beds but both can be made up into twin singles on request.
Port Isaac is very well known for many things: - Nathan Outlaws Fish restaurant (No 1 in the UK) - The Fisherman's Friends (local Sea Shanty Group) - Doc Martin - A wide variety of independent businesses - Fantastic walks, pubs and places to swim

Little Heyday is a self-contained, detached annex with its’ own parking space and small enclosed garden at the top of Port Isaac fishing village. It is a welcoming and quirky place to stay and not a traditional house!
Little Heyday is a self-contained, detached annex with its’ own parking space and garden. We bought this house 12 years ago and completely renovated it. We used to let the main house and stay in the annex. We adapted Little Heyday to our own holiday requirements as our daughter grew. It is a wood timbered building which forms the Sitting Room, Dining and Kitchen areas, with a shower room off this room; the door leads directly into the paved, self-contained garden. We extended it to also incorporate what had been a garage, which we have converted to form two snug bedrooms, a single and a double. The wardrobe and shelving unit for clothes is only in the single bedroom and in a recessed hanging space in the hallway; the double room does have some hooks on the back of the door. The double room has a window, but please note the very cosy single room does not have a window. The garden is paved and has Mediterranean style planting with a table and bench seating and barbecue. There are books, DVDs, and a TV. Little Heyday has been an annex to the main house and let us such since the Second World War when the family moved in and let their house to a family from Bristol. It is a welcoming and quirky place to stay and not a traditional house! We are at the top of Port Isaac fishing village and within easy walking distance of Port Gaverne. Port Isaac has two Michelin starred restaurants and many other places to eat and drink, as well as a pub, which is welcoming to dogs. Children can paddle in rock pools and older children can engage in the coastal excursions at Port Gaverne, whose pub also welcomes dogs. We are within short driving distances of the family beach at Daymer Bay, surfing beach at Polzeath, the cinema, Camel Trail and amenities of Wadebridge, long walking beach at Rock and restaurants and shops at Padstow.
One of the great things about Port Isaac is that there is so much to do you do not need to use your car whilst here if you don't want to! There are a range of dining options, from pub food to Nathan Outlaw's Michelin starred restaurant. There are local art galleries and craft shops, a Pottery, miles of coastal walking along the South West Coastal Path. In high season you can take part in sea based activities such as kayaking and coasteering in Port Gaverne and listen to the Fishermen's Friends sing on the Platt. Beyond the village there are National Trust properties, the Eden Project, Truro and its' Cathedral, a multitude of beaches and family based facilities. There are 2 Spa's at Polzeath and a public swimming pool at Wadebridge. There is nightlife in Newquay and an annual Surfing and music festival called Boardmasters in August. The local cinema in Wadebridge is very good and has 2 screens; it also shows the NT Live performances which can be pre-booked. There is a further, larger cinema in Truro. Many of the pubs in Wadebridge also host live music events. There is a very high quality classical music festival, St Endellion Music Festival at the end of July/ beginning of August and a Book Festival.

Our pretty three bed house has sea views, light airy rooms and a pretty garden. We have a separate sitting room with views to the coast and sea. Our kitchen diner is light and airy with a large oval table. There are three bedrooms, two doubles and one bunk bedded. The shower room has a full length walk in shower, loo and basin. There are heaters in all rooms. Our parking space is small and only a small car will fit (Golf). There is a car park close by for larger cars.
What makes our space unique is our location. We have sea and coastline views from every room. We are five minutes walk from the harbour and beach and all the hustle and bustle of the old village with its collection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, two of them Michelin starred. You can walk the SW coast path from sunrise to sunset and see North Cornwall in all it's glory and when you walk is over enjoy a sundowner on The Platt and watch the sun disappear beyond the horizon. Visit during spring and summer and see Doc Martin being filmed in the village. Meet the cast and watch all the action!
We live in a small fishing community where all the people that live here know each other and in many cases they know several generations of all the families. We have an influx of visitors in the summer and that brings the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Although Port Isaac retains all its charm and tradition it is a very vibrant place where something is always happening. We are the home of TVs Doc Martin, now in its tenth series and the shanty singers,Fishermens Friends still sing on the platt.

Once the village cobbler's shop, this well-equipped ground floor apartment is tucked away in a quiet location in the heart of Port Isaac (Port Wenn in the TV series Doc Martin). Less than a minute away are the village's famous harbour and a range of amenities including pubs, cafes, shops and two Michelin starred restaurants. Newly renovated, the apartment includes everything you need to enjoy a comfortable and cosy stay exploring the village and its surrounding area. Dog friendly.
The apartment is on the ground floor of an imposing 18th century house and was originally converted in the 1960s from the village's cobbler's shop. Rumour has it that it was also an illicit drinking den in its time, but who knows if that's true! Recently completely renovated, the apartment now includes two double bedrooms, a large marble tiled shower room and a well-equipped combined living, kitchen and dining room. It comes with everything you need for a relaxing break, including WIFI, tea/coffee, heating, a large flat screen TV, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer. You have your own private front door with level access from a courtyard, and although you're right in the centre of things, you'll feel hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the village. You can easily walk to everything the village offers and the good news is, you don't have to walk up (or down) a hill to get to the pub or a range of good restaurants. Your well-behaved dog is welcome but please let us know in advance (and ask them to stay off the furniture :))
Once a sleepy fishing village, Port Isaac is now famous thanks to its starring role on TV (Doc Martin - now in its ninth series) and on film (most recently 'The Fisherman's Friends'). It retains much of its historic charms, with old cottages set in a higgledy piggledy way along narrow streets, many of which are only accessible on foot. Despite its TV fame, its role as a traditional fishing harbour continues, with lobster, crab and fresh fish available for sale to the public at its 16th century fish cellars. Now a popular tourist destination, the village also flies the flag for Cornwall's foodie revolution - there are a range of cafes and restaurants serving great local produce, including two restaurants owned by the renowned chef Nathan Outlaw. Both of these have been awarded Michelin stars, and one has been rated as the best fish restaurant in the UK. The village's position directly on the South West coast path means that it's a great base from which to explore some of Cornwall's most dramatic coastal scenery. You can walk from your door to the coastal path, or head inland to discover landscapes that have been unchanged for hundreds of years, ancient churches and historic pubs serving local food, beers - and gins! A short drive away are a range of other attractions, including the famous bridge and castle at Tintagel, the harbours of Boscastle and Padstow (home of Rick Stein's shops and restaurants) and National Trust properties including Lanhydrock House and Trerice. If you want to be more adventurous, kayaking, wild swimming and coasteering trips are run from Port Gaverne, a short walk away.
