Although new to Airbnb, this cottage has been a popular rental for over 30 years.
The cottage was renovated in 2017, with new fridge, TV, windows, doors, flooring and built in sofa. A large front deck was added in the fall of 2019.
The cottage is approximately 7.3 X 4.2 meters (24' X 14').
**PLEASE NOTE. If you are booking for the winter months, some walls are insulated, but there is no insulation under the floor. The cottage stays warm & has area rugs, but the floor can be cool, so please bring slippers.
Non-shedding dogs are allowed, but please ask. A $50.00 cleaning fee will be added after booking.
The 2nd bedroom is a detached Bunkie and is typically ONLY AVAILABLE FROM MAY THROUGH OCT.
The detached Bunkie, that is the 2nd bedroom, with one double bed & one queen bed, does not have heating or air conditioning. The Bunkie was once a cottage, 1/2 has been converted to a storage garage & the other 1/2 is the Bunkie. We can provide electric blankets during cool weather and there are ceiling and floor fans for warmer months. The Bunkie is 3.5 X 3 meters (11'6" X 10'). The Bunkie is not available from Nov to March, which means only 2 people may book for these 5 months.
While not large, the cottage bedroom has plenty of storage and a new queen bed in Oct. 2018.
The kitchen is fully stocked, including gas stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker etc.
The cottage is heated with a wall mounted gas furnace and is air conditioned in the summer. Full list of what is supplied is in the cottage manual.
You have a wonderful view of the lake from your dining table .
The bathroom has a corner shower unit, some guests may find it small. Approximately 68 X 68 cm (27" X 27").
Included is basic cable, Netflix, Blu ray player, and WiFi.
Our cottage is usually just available during spring and fall as we have guests who have been booking summer weeks at Lakeview Cottage for many years. Their weeks are usually renewed each year, but there can be cancellations. The fall is an especially nice time to spend in Port Dover. It is less busy and the water is still warm enough for swimming.
There are private steps (shared by us, one neighbour and Lakeview House) to the beach. The lake levels vary and affect the size of the beach. There is an area for seating on the bank above the beach, should the lake level be very high. You can view the bank and the beach when the water level is average and when it is high in the cottage photos. 2019 saw the water level change back and forth from a dry beach, to no beach. Whether of not there is much beach in front of our stairs changes, but regardless, the beach is always just a short walk away.
Downtown Port Dover with its wide range of restaurants and the Lighthouse Festival Theatre is just a few blocks away. You can also easily walk to the pier and lighthouse. Norfolk County is known for wineries, breweries, fresh fruits and vegetables, walking and biking trails. The cottage is just a few blocks from the Lynn Valley Trail. You are a short drive to the Long Point Biosphere Reserve and many other points of interest. Biking tours and other local wine and brewery tours are available.
There are usually boat tours of the lake and Black Creek.
There is a local zip lining location and many local golf courses.
You are welcome to sit on the benches on the stairway to the beach. This is an excellent viewing area to watch the many birds and butterflies in the garden near the steps. Bald Eagles can be seen from the cottage, they are very common during the winter and you will see them occasionally during other months. Port Dover is on the migratory path for many birds and butterflies.
Please note that if you are booking for the winter months, some walls are insulated, but there is no insulation under the floor. The cottage stays warm & has area rugs, but the floor can be cool, so please bring slippers.
$50.00 cleaning fee is deducted manually by me after you book, if you are not bringing a dog.
**Message me if you want to book on the same day as your arrival.

This is a quiet residential neighbourhood, but because there is public beach access at the end of our street, it can be busy during the summer.
Your yard and deck area are surrounded by other yards, but generally the adjoining yards are very quiet. I think you will find your outdoor area quite private. Our house is close to the other side of the cottage, but you will not often see us either.
You are a short 2 block walk to downtown Port Dover, the theatre, Powell Park and many shops and restaurants.
Close to walking/biking trails, tennis courts, skate park, wineries, breweries, & in the heart of Ontario's Garden, Norfolk County. The perfect spot to truly eat and drink locally sourced products.
