Peter's Nest is a favourite cottage for honeymooners and couples--especially walkers and those with dogs! This Cotswold stone cottage tucked away by woods is the perfect 'love nest' for two, Virgilian in bucolic peace and sweet sylvan scenery. Downstairs the house has an modern, open-plan kitchen and living room with a wood-burning stove in one corner and a small bathroom. Upstairs is a cosy bedroom with a low ceiling, a perfect retreat from the world.
In a clearing below Peter's Nest Wood known mysteriously as 'Hell's Throat', hard by a woodland spring is the original tiny cottage of Woodwells farmstead, marked on an 1847 map. INTERIOR Downstairs we enter through the kitchen, which leads into the living room with comfortable dining and sitting areas, and a cosy wood-burning stove. The bathroom is adjacent. As this is a small cottage the ceiling height is low in the bathroom! The cottage is heated by storage heaters. A narrow staircase lead upstairs to the small double attic bedroom (with very low, sloping ceilings under the eaves) with queen-sized bed, enjoying views to the west down the Owlpen valley. Hanging space for clothes is provided under the eaves, and a small dressing table. Peters Nest is situated in the east of the valley in the heart of the woods, making it a perfect location for walkers looking to explore the valley, and is adjacent to Woodwells cottage. There is ample parking and a small garden adjoining the garden of Woodwells cottage. There is also a large wilderness woodland dell to the east of the cottage. A small wrought iron table provides the opportunity to enjoy a sunset aperitif or breakfast coffee. Or watch the wild life and sociable pheasants. Key Features •Favourite with honeymooners •Nestled in the heart of the woods •Perfect location for walkers •Wood-burning stove •Dog friendly •Sleeps 2
The Cotswolds are one of England's best known touring regions of picturesque hills, limestone villages and scenic attractions. The magical deep wooded valleys here form its most spectacular scenery. Golf, gliding, riding, antique shops, historic houses, castles and gardens nearby. But many visitors never leave the privacy of the Owlpen estate, with its miles of footpaths and utter seclusion. The Owlpen valley has long been recognised as one of the most romantic places in England and provides guests with an exclusive and relaxing hideaway, surrounded by private woods and hills and many miles of walks--from a gentle stroll round the estate trails to a 20 mile trek along the Cotswold Way. This is Laure Lee country, situated in the Royal Triangle in the heart of the Cotswolds hills. The historic cities of Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester are all within an easy drive, as are the cultural and scenic attractions of Oxford, Blenheim and Stratford Upon Avon, which are popular day excursions. An ideal base for the Horse Trials at Badminton and Gatcombe Park and racing at Cheltenham. Westonbirt Arboretum and the Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge are nearby. Newark Park (National Trust) and Woodchester Mansion are three miles away, as well as many historic houses and gardens, including Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House, Sudeley Castle, and Highgrove—if you can get in. The choice of attractions and things to see and do is huge and you will need to return many times to see and explore it all.

The cottage has been renovated to the highest standards whilst still retaining plenty of character. Ideally located for those seeking a luxurious retreat in the countryside with wonderful walks on the door step and the convenience of a pub and well-stocked village shop close by. Plenty of wonderful places to visit in the area and a restful stop gap if walking the Cotswold Way. Fantastic hilly cycling area. Conveniently located for travelling to either Cheltenham, Bristol or Bath
Renovated with much love and care over the last year, I have tried to keep the property simple and stylish but most of all comfortable. The wood burner provides a warming focal point and logs are provided for your first night's stay. Additional logs can be purchased thereafter either from the local shop or directly from me. Accommodation is best-suited up to four but can accommodate up to 6 if you don't mind a squeeze. PLEASE NOTE there is an additional charge per guest per night if more than two guests are staying - when booking, altering the number of guests shows you the exact charge. Netflix for those with accounts. Separate downstairs loo in addition to the large bathroom. Comfy towels and slippers provided for use during your stay. The kitchen is also stocked with coffee, tea, herbal teas, an array of spices and seasoning and I always leave fresh milk for my guests (let me know if you prefer soya/skimmed/etc). All the bedrooms have their own tea/coffee-making facilities.
As well as some wonderful walks on the doorstep, the property is well-situated if visiting the local tourist areas of Nailsworth, Tetbury and Westonbirt or if walking the Cotswold Way. Cheltenham is approximately 40 minutes drive away - perfect for attending the races or any of the festivals whilst Bath and Bristol are also about 40 minutes away. It is also about a ten-minute drive from the wedding and party venue, Kingscote Barn

El check in / out és senzill.

    Lisa2019-04-06T00:00:00Z

    Jaspreet2019-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Una casa tan bonica, tocs immaculadament nets i preciosos amb sabons fets a mà i Prosecco! Gràcies per una estada meravellosa. El recomano i espero tornar a visitar-nos aviat!

    Stephanie2019-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Magnífica casa de camp, fabulós pub proper, estufa de troncs, bells detalls addicionals, tot allò que vam anar / necessitem! Gràcies Clare!

Introduction As you approach Walkley Wood Cottage through the winding lanes of Nailsworth, you will notice how the town and surrounding properties are almost hidden by the secluded woodland valley to the east of Stroud. Proudly perched on the side of sleepy Shortwood Road is Walkley Wood Cottage, a distinguished 19th century property with rustic golden stone that immediately casts a warm and welcoming aura. Ideally situated, this cottage is the perfect base for exploring the tranquillity of the surrounding Stroud Valleys and the wider Cotswolds, while guests are also in easy walking distance of the cheerfully eclectic town of Nailsworth. If you’re looking for somewhere to totally relax and unwind, then Walkley Wood is the perfect Cotswold home for you. As you approach the cottage through the cast iron gate and down the stone steps, you will notice a small outdoor table and chairs set down from the lane behind the dry-stone wall. Guests are welcome to sit outside and enjoy the warmth of the summer months in this compact but delightful sun trap. You may find yourself admiring the beautiful architecture and delicate Georgian windows, this cottage was, after all, built in 1852. Although the exact history of the cottage remains largely a mystery, it has been suggested that the building may have been used as a pub many years ago, which could explain the origins of the kitchen skylight. Either way, it’s nice to consider that many happy memories have been created within these historic walls! Inside, Walkley Wood really is the perfect holiday home. Devoid of fussiness and frill, Karen has struck the perfect balance between homely-cosy comfort and refreshing simplicity. Each floor is brought to life by a sprinkling of quirky vintage features, while guests can simultaneously enjoy a bright and Scandinavian-inspired minimalist feel. The living room is the real heart of the property. A log-burning stove immediately creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere, with soft blankets and cushions scattered over furniture to help guests make themselves feel at home. Just a short walk away is the artistic town of Nailsworth, a gem in the heart of the Cotswold valleys. Our Shepherds Hut sits on top of the hill with outstanding views overlooking the Nailsworth Valley and beyond.
The Shepherds hut sits in the corner of the field over looking our chickens, where you're welcome to collect you're own eggs for breakfast (as long as they have laid some!). From the hut your open to lovely walks of the surrounding areas and only a 15 minute walk to the nearest pub and local shop which sell the famous Horsley Sausages - again great to have with your breakfast. The hut comes with a double electric hob, kettle, toaster and microwave. There is no oven in the hut. We also have an eco fridge which is a cool pot outside the hut big enough to keep the essentials cold for your breakfast. Parking is available for one car within a 10 metre walk from the hut. The hut is fully secured and has an electric heater if the Great British weather doesn't come up trumps for your stay.
The Hut on the Hill on situated near the Cotswold town of Nailsworth, a few miles drive from Stroud (with its famous farmers market) and a short commute to the Cotswold way and other attractions such as Badminton/Gatcombe horse trials, Cirencester and Westonbirt Arboretum. Nailsworth has an abundance of independent coffee shops and quirky treasure troves to pass your time. We have several chickens situated near the Shepherds hut. These are cordoned off by an electric fence (don't worry we don't have a cockerel so you won't be woken by them).

The Cotswolds: If you’re looking for somewhere with a surprise round every corner then look no further than the beautiful Cotswolds. Famous for quintessentially English market towns and villages built from honey-coloured stone, the Cotswolds are a range of gently rolling hills and the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales making them a perfect base for keen walkers and cyclists. Escape the high street and lose yourself in village lanes full to bursting with quirky and independent shops, restaurants and farmers markets or soak up the amazing atmosphere of one of our many festivals and events. You’ll find some of the world’s most famous – and beautiful gardens in the Cotswolds, as well as wildlife parks, castles and stately homes and some of the finest historic buildings and churches in the country. Don’t be put off by our lack of coastline either! We have 40 miles of lakes in the Cotswold Water Park and numerous gently winding streams, canals and waterways criss-crossing the picturesque towns and villages. On the door step: WOODCHESTER PARK - the secret valley: Nestled in the Cotswolds, the secluded valley of Woodchester Park is home to the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park, a Victorian mansion, a chain of five lakes fringed by woodland and pasture, and an abundance of wildlife. The 19th Century Victorian Gothic Masterpiece was abandoned in mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction, but will never be completed. Visitors walk through an extraordinary architectural exhibit in which the secrets of the medieval Gothic builders and masons are laid bare. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world. 3 mins drive / 30 mins walk: NAILSWORTH: The artistic, market town of Nailsworth is nestled in a wooded valley in the south Cotswolds. Nailsworth is renowned for its selection of award-winning restaurants, pubs and cafes. Eating out in Nailsworth means you are spoilt for choice. Hobbs House Bakery is famous for being owned by the Fabulous Baker Brothers – Tom and Henry Herbert – and was featured on their TV show. William’s Food Hall has helped turn Nailsworth into a foodie haven. It draws celebrities and foodies through its doors to dine on fresh seafood and local produce. 5 mins drive: MINCHINHAMPTON The delightful, small market town of Minchinhampton sits on the edge of Minchinhampton Common. It's made up of pretty stone cottages, many dating back to the 17th century and medieval wool trade. There is a weekly country market and a good choice of cafes. Minchinhampton was chosen as a scenic location for the recent BBC TV adaptation of J K Rowling’s Casual Vacancy. There are breathtaking panoramic views of the Stroud Valleys from Minchinhampton Common, which sits on the Cotswold escarpment. It is an important archaeological landscape and managed by the National Trust. Rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted along with freely roaming horses and cattle. Please drive carefully over the common and keep an eye out for (URL HIDDEN) of the most famous residents is the Princess Royal who lives at Gatcombe Park on the edge of town. Every year, the famously quirky Giffords Circus takes up residence in Minchinhampton as part of its annual summer tour of the Cotswolds. 15 mins drive: TETBURY: Tetbury is a historic market town that is now internationally famous for its range of antiques shops and dealers. Independent boutique shops sit alongside restaurants that feature in the Michelin Guides. Tetbury attracts everyone from Royalty (Prince Charles and his sons' home, Highgrove, sits less than a mile away) to English countryside lovers, antique-finders, foodies and real ale connoisseurs. 8 min drive: STROUD: In the opposite direction and you will find yourself in the market town of Stroud - Situated below the western escarpment of the Cotswold Hills at the meeting point of the Five Valleys, the town is noted for its steep streets, independent spirit and cafe culture. The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds the town, and the Cotswold Way path passes by it to the west. The award winning saturday farmers market IS A MUST! 25 min drive: BIBURY & ARLINGTON Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold village just a short drive from Cirencester. It’s easy to see why William Morris called Bibury ‘The most beautiful village in England’ – wonderful stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln. Arlington Row, owned by the National Trust, is one of England’s most iconic and photographed sites – it even appears on the inside cover of UK passports! Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by National Trust tenants, with no public access to the cottages or gardens, although one of them can be rented out as a holiday cottage. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle, so called because wool was once hung out to dry there on racks after it had been washed in Arlington Row. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds. 30 min drive:CHELTENHAM SPA 45 min drive: BATH SPA

The Grist Mill is an early 18th-century watermill which sleeps up to 8 in four double bedrooms. This listed Grade 2 landmark building has been restored as a gem of a holiday home, with contemporary comfort and style, surmounted by lantern and cupola. Enjoy open plan living in traditional style on the ground floor, and as you head up through the house you'll find cosy bedrooms and old machinery still in place, a relic of times past. Wooden beams, comfortable beds and new bathrooms.
The ground floor has an entrance hall leading to a large open-plan kitchen-cum-dining/ living room, with two sofas, arm chairs and a snug wood-burning stove in addition to the central heating. The kitchen is in fitted pine, with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and an antique pine table set with ash chairs designed by Ernest Gimson. Wooden stairs lead to the first floor (stone floor of the mill), which sleeps four. The miller's bedroom has a rare and opulent early eighteenth-century oak four-poster king-sized bed. The second bedroom has twin beds. Both bedrooms have beautiful views over the mill pond. There is a small bathroom with bath and over-bath showerhead. The ample landing preserves a number of original mill features and the original loading-door opens to the west. The second floor (granary floor) acts as a hide for the bird life on the mill pond, with early 19th-century bolting machinery carefully preserved. Original elm stairs (steep and unsuitable for young children or the elderly); a door keeps the stairs closed off from children. Here is a large double bedroom with king-sized bed and an open children's room, with two single beds. A second bathroom makes this four-bedroomed cottage comfortable for eight guests. Above this floor is a gantry cat-walk. A sack-hoist hangs in the cupola, whence light filters down through successive levels of glazed floor lights set in the traps.
The Cotswolds are one of England's best known touring regions of picturesque hills, limestone villages and scenic attractions. The magical deep wooded valleys here form its most spectacular scenery. Extra details Golf, gliding, riding, antique shops, historic houses, castles and gardens nearby. But many visitors never leave the privacy of the Owlpen estate, with its miles of footpaths and 800-years of history. Newark Park (National Trust) and Woodchester Mansion are three miles away, as well as many historic houses, including Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House and Sudeley Castle. The choice of attractions and things to see and do is huge and you will want to return to see and explore it all.
