Every detail is the work of a longtime artist, and large windows frame a stunning and unobstructed view of the Gila National Forest's Mogollon Mountains. Peppermint essential oil is used to deter insects; however, if one has wandered into your space, a jar is provided to escort them outdoors.
LOCATION: We are surrounded by New Mexico's Gila National Forest, and very close to the Aldo Leopold Wilderness area which was the first to be established in the United States. Glenwood boasts hot springs, labyrinths, canyons, mountains, galleries and ghost towns. This is the perfect place for relaxing, sightseeing, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, birding and gazing at the starry night sky. The San Francisco River runs through our valley from the north; Whitewater and Mineral Creeks cascade from the east; the spectacular Mogollon Mountain Range outlines the sky. The stunning and diverse landscape of the surrounding area covers four of the six life zones and we enjoy 4 gentle seasons. This is a bird watchers paradise; from bald and golden eagles to resident great blue herons and black hawks, migrating cranes and ducks to six different species of hummingbirds. Our piece of heaven is home to the Cosmic Campground: which has the distinction of being named the first Dark Sky Sanctuary in the World: This area is rich in history from the pre-historic Mimbreno Culture; famous Apache Chiefs: Mangas Colorado, Victorio, and Geronimo; Mining camps, ghost towns; the "Wild Bunch", Butch Cassidy, Billy the Kid, William Antrim; the first motorized "Air Ship" to fly in New Mexico and conservationist Aldo Leopold. Glenwood is known for the Catwalk Recreation Area, which is 4 miles up the canyon from the Cozy Cabin. THE CATWALK: Whitewater Canyon, site of the famous Catwalk, was a central point in the mining history of this area. The town called both Graham and Whitewater grew up around a mill built by John T. Graham in 1893. All that remains to mark the spot is part of the mill walls still clinging to the west side of the canyon near the entrance to The Catwalk. The mines above the canyon were worked from their discovery in 1889 until 1942 (Billy the Kid's stepfather, William Antrim, was a blacksmith at Graham). The Helen Mining Company was first to develop 13 claims about 4 miles upstream from the mill which could not be built closer to the mines because of the rough, narrow canyon. A 3 mile long, 4" metal pipeline provided a continuous water supply to the town and its electric generator. Although a larger 18" pipeline was built in 1897 to run a big, new generator, the present day Catwalk follows the route of the original line. Pipe used in the water line was delivered to the site on wagons drawn by teams of up to 40 horses. Ore was pulled down the mountain to an ore chute on the ridge just above the mill by smaller teams. Brace holes were drilled into the solid rock walls, sometimes 20 feet above the canyon floor, to hold the timbers and iron bars that supported the smaller water line along its meandering course. The massive rock walls of Whitewater Canyon saw few visitors until the Civilian Conservation Corps. was assigned the task of rebuilding The Catwalk as a recreation attraction for the Gila National Forest.

For the adventurous spirit, an off grid space on 8 acres for friends and lovers wanting to disconnect from technology and connect with the wilderness and each other. There are no neighbors within sight or hearing distance. Guests may frolic around, have privacy and howl at the moon (if they like). There are two dogs on the property, Juniper & Willow. Unfortunately, I DO NOT allow additional pets :( many apologies.
140 Square foot cabin, The KEEP is surrounded by a 6' barrier fence facing the road, and host but open to the Gila wilderness. The road is unpaved, but recently graded so standard cars are fine. Guests must bring in their own food. Host provides coffee & an assortment of organic teas, condiments, spices, oils for cooking, stainless steal, iron cookware, dishes, napkins, tea and bath towels.
The Gila wilderness is, past stomping grounds for Billy the Kid, Geronimo, miners, the US Calvary to name a few. An abundance of wild life, and dark skies for star gazing. There are a myriad of hiking trails, the Gold Dust Trail is quite spectacular and the Catwalk National Forrest is just up the road for cold dipping in pools during the summer months, as is Mogollon Ghost town (pronounced "muggy-on"). The drinking and shower water is sourced from a 260 foot well, and it's delicious. Feel free to fill water bottles upon departure. Overview, This area is magic.

Country comfort in a two bedroom house, artfully decorated, in a riparian setting by the San Francisco River. Peaceful environment, privacy, with horses, a large organic garden, fruit trees, pottery studio, and lots of wildlife.
We are located along the San Francisco River, in Pleasanton, NM. The home was formerly a gallery, and Jude's clay art as well as work by other local artists is displayed throughout. Simple, 2-bedroom house has a kitchen and a private bath with shower. Great birding opportunities from your porch. Large organic garden with fresh produce in season, and lots of butterflies. Cool mornings and warm afternoons most of the year. You can meet our Colonial Spanish Barb horses. They are desert hardy and good on rocky ground, and stand just 13-3 hands. Ours belong to the Wilbur Cruce strain.
Nearby attractions include the Catwalk National Recreation Area, the San Francisco Hot Springs, day-use areas along the river, and the old mining towns of Mogollon (still alive) and Cooney (ghosts only). There are numerous trails leading into the Mogollon Mountains and the Gila Wilderness. It's not far to an official dark skies astronomer's site, or just set up in our driveway.

Very near the Gila Wilderness and river, Bearpaw Ranch is perfectly situated to enjoy all that the area has to offer. 35 m from Silver City NM. Very private and serene. Just a short walk to the Gila River and our 4 ponds. Perfectly dark night skies for star-gazing.
This cabin is on 140 acres just north of the little town of Gila. There are 4 small ponds on the property and it's an easy walk from the cabin. The Gila River flows through the middle of the ranch and is a bird watchers delight! Horses are welcome and I have pasture and stable rates. The Gila Wilderness is easily accessible and the ranch is near the end of the paved road at the Turkey Creek entrance of the wilderness Area attractions include the Wild West Rodeo, the Memorial Day Jazz Festival, and the world renown Tour of the Gila bike races in April. This cabin sits alone about 150 yards from the main house. The delightful thing about being at Bearpaw Ranch is the solitude and serenity. You could literally go days without having to interact with people or you could meet local people by visiting area businesses. I live on the property and go about my business with no expectation of any interaction with my guests. I'm friendly, but not nosy! You can easily recharge here!
Gila is half of a two town "valley" community. Cliff is the town on the west side of the river and Gila is the town on the east side. There is a loving diversity of people who call the valley their home.

Visit the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, the Catwalk National Recreation Area, and Mogollon Ghost Town. Explore the galleries and museums in Silver City. Or spend your time right here, at your private Casita, where there is no road noise, no street lights, no traffic, and very few other people! Our Casitas have full kitchens and bbq grills. We have restaurant-quality steak and chicken available for purchase (call ahead so it will defrost before your arrival). Tammy's Cafe in Cliff is open Thursday thru Saturday for lunch and dinner, and Sunday for lunch. They have great burgers and hand-cut fries!

Whole house rental of 2bd, 1ba cabin in Beautiful Gila Hot Springs, NM. Use this base for a jumping-off point for your Gila Wilderness or Gila Cliff Dwellings adventures. Cabin has full kitchen, internet, local phone, easy walk to Hot Springs.
This unique location puts you away from it all. Use the space for a retreat, family vacation, or wilderness sabbatical. Easy access to the beautiful trails of the Gila Wilderness and the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. Not far off the paved road, the cabin is easy to get to, come in and relax on the oversized covered patio. No 4 wheel drive required; however, in the winter it does sometimes snow on the only mouton pass to get in or out. We strongly recommend minding the weather report and being prepared. The road is usually plowed within a day of snow events. The two bedrooms both have queen beds. The living room couch pulls out into a bed also. The property has tent and rv space also, ask us about rates for groups larger than 6. There used to be cats in the house, but they are not there now. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, sink, and coffee maker (there's no microwave or dishwasher). There's a reusable coffee filter, please don't bring any. There are cooking basics at the house like oil, salt, pepper, basic spices, some teas, and usually coffee too. The gas grill has propane provided. Make sure to bring anything you would want or need, but emergency supplies can be found at the nearby store, Doc Campbell's Post (very limited selection). Depending on where you're travelling from, the last stop for supplies will be Silver City, Truth or Consequences, or Deming. We allow well behaved dogs, but there is no dog fencing on the property. Please throw all dog poop out into the woods. Horse facilities include one large pen with water and feeding troughs. Will hold up to 6 horses for short term. Please add a guest to your request for every horse/ night.
The house is 90 minutes from Silver City and any services. I will ask you to confirm that that distance is ok before I accept any reservation request. The nearby Gila Hot Springs RV Park and Campgrounds, and Wildwood Retreat feature hot spring pools of various styles, all within easy walking distance of the cabin. They are owned by private businesses, please pay their fees, follow their rules, and respect our neighbors. The village has a small store, Doc Campbell's Post, that features homemade ice cream and gifts, bring your own groceries.

New BIG DISCOUNTS FOR LONGER STAYS!! "Inn at the LC" Stay at the Historic Lyons & Campbell Ranch Headquarters in our premiere accommodation, the well appointed "Gate House", in secluded Gila, NM. Enjoy the fully renovated Gatehouse with marble bathroom and Jacuzzi, King size four poster bed, and two flat screen satellite TVs. Life in the country, shop in nearby Silver City for groceries, full kitchen, nothing nearby, only a gas station with very basic necessities.
The Corona Virus is a huge concern for us. The health of our guests and ourselves is at risk. We have suspended tours of the ranch and the instant booking feature on Airbnb. We will not accept bookings from people coming from areas with large CV-19 hot spots. We also allow a minimum of 4 days vacancy between guests. As we are social distancing, we will have little to no contact with guests. If you want to escape the big city, hide out and relax in secluded rural New Mexico, the L.C. Ranch is here for you. The "Gate House" is a newly renovated, well appointed accommodation perfect for a couple, or couple "plus one", with King Size four-post bed, Air conditioned, full kitchen, Satellite TV, private marble bathroom with Jacuzzi. (The "Bunkhouse" is a larger, only partially renovated and more rustic accommodation for up to seven people). Once you're settled in, time to check out the Ranch. A New Mexico Historic Site, and on the National Registry of Historic Places, The National Park Service, in their publication "The Cattleman's Empire" described the million acre L & C as "Overshadowing all other ranching operations in the Southwest", and “The L.C. remains as one of the last surviving Great Ranch Houses of the Old West”. The Lyons and Campbell Ranch Headquarters is a 60 room, 8 acre, Adobe compound that today includes a 27 room adobe Mansion, Saloon, Jail, Wedding Chapel, Theatre, Gallery, Bunkhouse, Bath house with large wood-fired communal Hot Tub, Swimming Pool and Lanai with wood burning brick pizza oven and BBQ. (Bath house, Hot Tub, Swimming Pool and pizza oven are seasonal, and not available in the winter months.) The cattle, cowboys and million acres are long gone. Cattle Baron Tom Lyons' 27 room adobe mansion, lavishly refurnished, remains along with all the outbuildings of the L C Ranch Headquarters. A 501(c)3, your stay will help fund ongoing restoration projects. Donations are tax-deductible.
Although the LC is a destination in itself, the surrounding area has lots to offer from hiking and bird watching to off-road adventures in the nearby Burro mountains and scenic on-road driving adventures, with very little traffic, suitable for family outings or spirited forays through picturesque landscapes in your sports car or motorcycle. The GILA is a beautiful river valley at the base of the Mogollon Mountains and the Gila Wilderness. A true Oasis in the desert Southwest. It is remote and secluded, with 5 seasons, including the delightful late summer monsoons. There is a post office, public library, medical clinic and 3 churches. And 3 miles away in the nearby village of CLIFF there is a gas station with a few very basic groceries. There is one new restaurant, but no grocery, or Liquor stores here! You will need to do your shopping in Silver City, 30 miles before you get here. Wal-Mart and Albertson's, right on U.S. 180 in Silver City, are your best bets. With advance notice, and a fee, Weekend guests can request a BBQ ($100), or Wood Fired Pizza party by the pool, $50 for up to 4 persons. Or do your own BBQ n/c. Your apartment has its own BBQ, or you can use the one at the pool. Your cell phone probably won't work either. If you have Verizon, and stand down by the jail, on one foot, and jump up and down, wave your arm, you might get a signal.....I am not joking, well, maybe a little...

Including the 16'x24' screened Veranda porch, you'll have nearly 1400 square feet of comfortable living space to call 'home'. It is the perfect location to experience vintage ranch life as it might have been 100+ years ago, in southwest New Mexico. An intimate living room area includes a flat screened HD TV, dvd player and library, as well as Wi-Fi internet allowing you to stream movies or music and access the internet. VOIP telephone service provides for long distance calls within the Continental U.S. at no charge to you. Your may receive cell service if your cell phone is Wi-Fi compatible. You may need to go to change your phone 'settings', turn on 'wi-fi' and log into our network. Please, remember you are visiting a very rural area where all the sights, sounds and smells of ranching, farming and a slower paced life are blissfully still found. The large master bedroom has a gas fireplace, queen sized bed crowned with a magnificently hand crafted headboard, a 1930's double door oak armoire imported from England, vintage, hand painted porcelain table lamps. The original well used wood floors will take you back to a gentler time. Two vintage antique oak sewing machines with delicate wood carved trim serve as your night tables. Off the living room through double glass French doors curtained for privacy you will find bedroom number two. A bit smaller but with queen bed, rustic headboard, antique dresser and private toilet with shower. In your master bath, you will enjoy plenty of hot water to soak in the luxury of a deep cast iron, claw foot bath tub. A 1940's hoosier cabinet with etched glass doors provide plenty of space for your personal toiletries. The full bath has a pedestal sink and an over sized stall shower with a "rain water" shower head. For your convenience, the pantry is supplied with a small supply of complimentary items such as sugar, coffee creamer, tea, cooking oil and spray, pasta, rice, microwave popcorn, canned meat chunks, foil. They are stocked with fresh dairy products, eggs, ice cream, bread, canned fruits and vegetables, frozen meat, lunch meat, soda, snacks - open 7 days a week. The extra large Veranda porch offers the perfect way to begin (or end!) your day.
This part of Southwestern New Mexico encompasses some of the roughest, most remote, and pristine land in the U.S. The terrain ranges from rugged mountains and deep canyons to mesas and semi-desert. Our private 360 acres include over a mile of Bear Creek, which feeds into the Gila River. Here, you'll find an extraordinary, privately protected riparian sanctuary, home to black hawks, falcons, hundreds of migratory and indigenous birds as well as spectacular views. Hikers will marvel at the climb to the top of "Turtle Rock" aka Apache Corral, from where you can see all the way to the Arizona border! We adjoin 6500 acres of New Mexico State land, which flows directly into the 3 million acre Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness area. Don't be surprised to see a few Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep relaxing on the cliffs across from your cabin! Right out your door you’ll have access to 360 private acres that includes a variety of terrain, including miles of “no trail" hiking as well as several miles of Bear Creek. The adjacent 15 square miles of public land proves you really are at the end of the road, as it back up to the 3 million acre Gila National Forest. We've been told that once you're here, you want to stay longer - or, not leave at all! Cable, satellite or network tv is not provided. Included is tv/dvd, wi-fi for streaming movies, music or working using your personal devices and accounts.
A cozy one bedroom cabin features Italian leather love seat and easy chair, TV, DVD, complete kitchen with full sized appliances, large walk-in shower and comfortable bedroom with queen sized bed, comforters and luxury sheets. Enjoy a covered deck with rocking chairs for your first cup of morning coffee.
Our vacation home rentals are affordable and all conveniently located 3 miles east of the quaint Village of Gila and a short 7-mile drive across the Gila River to the town of Cliff. We are 30 miles northwest of historic Silver City, once a booming mining town, and now a vibrant community promoting the arts, business, commerce, and tourism. Gila boasts a post office, medical clinic, library, senior center (Bingo!), art gallery, community center and several churches. Just across the river in Cliff, NM you will find Tammy's Cafe, open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.
