  • Les terres i la casa són encantadores. Agradable i net, ampli i còmode.

    Mike2018-06-12T00:00:00Z

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

We particularly like Cote and Jessie's restaurants for dinner and the Trouble House café (on the road to Tetbury) for great lunches and cakes!

Only slightly farther afield are Shakespeare's Stratford, Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace and the dreaming spires of Oxford. Asphodel is a perfect base to relax or explore. Locally just a mile away via country path or dirt road is the local pub, the Tunnel House, originally built to house workers on the canal tunnel, whose 19th century classical entrance is adjacent. There are excellent gastro-pubs like The Bell at Sapperton, Trouble House Inn, Potting Shed (below) and Village Pub Barnsley all within just ten minutes drive. For special occasions there are critically acclaimed destinations like Barnsley House, Calcot Manor or The Rectory. But you don't always need 'destinations'. One of the delights of the Cotswolds is touring the picturesque country lanes and discovering picture postcard villages where the tourist buses never venture. Free on-street parking is readily available close to the cottage and throughout the hamlet.

Bellament dissenyat i realment ben considerat.

Gràcies Laura i Dries.

L'apartament estava net i agradable!

Beautiful 18th-century Beehive Cottage, in the Cotswold village of Poulton, sleeps 6 guests across one king-size, one double and one twin bedroom. The cottage has a very well- equipped kitchen, a spacious living room with an inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, a separate Snug with a work area, a spacious family bathroom with a bath and a downstairs shower room/utility. Outside is a large, pretty garden and off-street parking for two cars, with free on street parking readily available.
Introduction As you pull onto the gravelled drive at Beehive Cottage, in the village of Poulton, you’ll immediately feel a sense of serenity as the history and beauty of the cottage greets you. It is an archetypal Cotswold property, built in the 1760’s with Victorian additions – the type of home you see featured in property magazines and wish you could stay! The owner has renovated Beehive Cottage very sympathetically, maintaining the traditional character of the cottage yet providing every modern convenience with a contemporary but stunning interior design – including richly pigmented, eco-friendly Farrow & Ball paints - plus everything you need for a thoroughly pampered, self-catered Cotswold holiday. Beehive Cottage’s front door is framed by wisteria and passionflower, with thick swathes of lavender in the garden’s raised beds, attracting butterflies and bees in the summertime. French doors open from the Kitchen-Dining area to an outdoor seating area, which wraps round the cottage to further seating and a barbecue. Steps leads up to a lawn, with mature planting, and a second large table, where you can sit and enjoy the last rays of evening sunshine looking back towards the cottage. The traditional character of Beehive Cottage, including a stunning inglenook fireplace (with a secret stone staircase behind winding up to Bedroom 3), original oak beams and exposed Cotswold stone walls combines fabulously with the carefully chosen modern amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen with 6-ring hob, a shower/utility room, a family bathroom, WiFi, a Smart TV, Bose speaker, a Snug with work area (for guests who have to check in to the office) and exquisite, decorations throughout the cottage that have been hand-painted by the owner. Poulton is a small but thriving Cotswold village with a traditional British pub, The Falcon Inn, serving British modern food, and featuring locally brewed cask ales. The village has a church (St Michael’s and All Angels) and a children's playground and playing field, called ‘Englands’, directly across the lane from the cottage. A traditional summer fete is held each year on the first Sunday after the August Bank Holiday. The closest food shops to the cottage are in Fairford, approximately 3 miles away (see ‘Local Amenities’). Two sofas and an armchair provide comfy seating for six guests to watch the Smart TV and enjoy the wood burning stove, while a window seat is the perfect place to perch and read a book. During renovation work, a stone stairway was unearthed behind the fireplace, leading up to the twin bedroom; providing a fascinating glimpse into the cottage’s past. A lock is provided on the twin bedroom door to prevent younger guests in that bedroom from using the staircase.) The bedroom is furnished with bedside chests and lamps, a corner hanging rail, and a lovely window seat overlooking the garden’s outdoor seating area. A door at the back of the room opens to the steep, secret staircase down to the Living Room. This door can be bolted to stop young children using it. Bedroom Two Cross the landing to Beehive’s king-size bedroom, with its soft-yellow walls and accents of pink and red. Guests can watch the world go by, sitting in the window seat while reading a book from the wide selection of novels from the bedroom’s bookcase. The room is furnished with a sink-in KING bed, half-height wardrobe, a bedside chest of drawers with a reading light, and an impressive mirror. Hairdryer in drawer. Bedroom One At the end of the landing, up two stairs, is the master bedroom, affectionately known by the owner as the Butterfly Room, which features a sink-in, double-size bed and walls decorated with beautifully hand-painted butterflies. The room is furnished with a handsome, cherry wood chest of drawers and dressing table, bedside tables with reading lamps and a hanging rail with a shoe rack. With windows on three sides, overlooking the garden and the road below, the master bedroom is bright and light, but has exquisite hand-made, heavy curtains and a blind to ensure a really good night’s sleep. Family Bathroom Located next to Bedroom One, the Family Bathroom is practical yet exudes relaxation at the same time, with its painted wooden floor, half-panelled soft-grey walls and an intricately hand-painted partridge, complimented by a series of antique birds’ egg paintings. The bathroom features a full-length bath, with luxury bubble bath provided, a toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail. Outside Beehive Cottage has a charming garden with a lawn and a gravelled area with seating and parking for two cars. Wisteria and passionflower frame the front door and climb up to the bedroom windows, while in the summertime lavender blooms fill the air with their scent, attracting bees, butterflies and birds. Step through the French doors in the Kitchen to the outdoor seating area, with its oblong-shaped table, seating for eight and charcoal barbecue. Beyond the parking area, up a few steps, is an immaculate lawn with raised beds and an original beehive – no longer in use!

Nothing says holidays like a hot tub. After dinner’s done and the night is but young, fire up the bubbles and watch the panoramic view of the sun setting over the lake from your private secure deck. This is just one of the magical moments you can experience whilst staying at Lapwing Lake Lodge. Perched on the water’s edge, Lapwing Lake Lodge is a chic New England-style retreat with plenty of room for six plus pooch. The pretty clapper board-style exterior and fantastic water-front setting make a brilliant first impression. The convenience of the location within steps of a family-friendly lakeside bar, brasserie, gym and a great children's play area come a close second. Located on Spring Lake, our lake house has prime position in the Cotswold Water Park, one of the best kept secrets of Gloucestershire! One of 150 lakes in an area the size of Jersey, there’s so much to explore and something for everyone. Wildlife, watersports, activities, great eateries, walking, history and culture are just some of the things you will find nearby.
The lake house itself has been stylishly renovated to mirror its setting, offering super lake views from inside and out. Downstairs, it’s fully open plan complemented by stunning bi-folding doors that stretch across the back of the house. They ensure the house is filled with calm and tranquil light whilst showing the lake off in all its charming glory. An ever changing picture of water-skiers, swans and rippling water can be enjoyed from the comfort of the sofa, or fold the doors back and the living area takes on a new and exciting feel. The outside space becomes an extension to the house, providing the perfect spot for sizzling steaks on the barbecue. Or simply sitting back to enjoy lakeside life while your own hot tub bubbles invitingly and watch the world go by. Upstairs there is a large master bedroom with a full length window overlooking the lake, allowing you the same stunning views, two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Extra care has been taken for families, and you will find lots of special touches around the house if you are planning on taking the little ones. The light bright interiors with family-friendly luxuries are added bonuses, whilst the fact that there’s a spa, golf course, water sports centre, bike hire and routes, plus a choice of restaurants and pubs, within a short, scenic walk really sets it apart. Although, for most young families, the fact that the UK’s largest inland beach with a purpose built toddler paddling and playground area is within a 10-15 minute stroll is the icing on the cake. THE LAYOUT Ground floor: Open plan living space with sitting and dining areas seating six. Bifold doors open out onto a private deck with superb lake views. A U-shaped kitchen with breakfast bar and stools is set slightly apart from the living area. Shower room with WC First floor: Master bedroom with 5′ king size bed and a pretty Juliette balcony with amazing views over the lake. There is also room for a cot. Double bedroom with 4’6″ bed. Twin bedroom with 2’6″ beds which can convert into a kingsize bed. Family bathroom with a bath, overhead shower and children’s bathing accessories. IN A NUTSHELL 6 Guests Three bedrooms: two doubles, one twin/double One bathroom, one shower room Suitable for children and baby (cot, highchair and stairgate available) Up to two well-behaved dogs welcome on request (small additional fee applies*) Private secure deck onto lake with hot tub, table and chairs and barbecue Welcome hamper, linen and toiletries Surrounding shared outdoor space and children’s playground Bike hire with child seats/trailers can be pre-booked Spa, gym, golf course, water sports centre, bike hire and routes, plus a choice of restaurants and pubs on site Heavily discounted spa passes Parking for two cars EQUIPMENT Electric wall heaters Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer-dryer Flat screen TV with Freeview, DVD player WiFi internet access Private outdoor heated hot tub Outdoor dining furniture and barbecue
Along with its lakeside setting one of the house’s greatest assets is the amount that there is to see and do nearby for families and young children. Within a minute’s stroll is the Lakeside Brassiere which boasts a family friendly sports bar, a relaxed family restaurant with a sun terrace overlooking the lake. A fully air conditioned gym is located above the brasserie with a range of equipment. Should you be staying for a prolonged period a monthly membership can be purchased, but the gym also offers a highly reasonable single use fee option. Within 50 metres of the lodge is a large children’s play area with climbing frame, monkey bars and fireman pole. Lakeside Ski & Wake offer wakeboard and waterski lessons on the lake, plus sessions as well as fun rides for all the family on their ringos and other inflatables. These all prove irresistible to most families in the summer months, not least since thanks to a special skimmer board. From beginners to experts, everyone is welcome. Next to the house is a small shingle beach area popular with the little ones for paddling. From the deck you can feed swans and ducks that are very friendly, but far enough away to stop little ones from feeling intimidated. About a 5 minutes’ walk away, there’s a cable ski and a buzzing cafe bar reachable on pushchair friendly flat paths and roads. Located opposite Spring Lake is the South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre which offers sailing, canoeing, and paddle boarding activities and courses. Bike hire, angling and even the biggest inland beach in the UK are all within a mile or two. Located on the other side of the Spine Road, a 10 minute walk from Spring Lake, is Spa 6, one of the premier spas in the Cotswolds, located within the Four Pillars Cotswold Water Park Hotel. Treatments include: Volcanic Hot Stone Back Massage, “Indian Sandalwood” Soothing Scalp Massage and “Exotic Orange Blossom Ritual” Face and Body Treatment. Not forgetting of course, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and hydrotherapy pool. The house is also within walking distance to the local village of South Cerney which offers a number of local amenities including a selection of pubs, takeaways, village shops, post office and a hairdressers. Lapwing Lake Lodge is ideally situated too for exploring the towns and villages of the beautiful Cotswolds region. The well-known quintessential English villages of Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Moreton-in-the-Marsh, are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cirencester known as ‘The Capital of the Cotswolds’, is 4 miles away, giving easy access to excellent shopping, restaurants, entertainment, ancient buildings and museums. Cheltenham (20 miles), the most complete regency town in England, is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, Cheltenham hosts Festivals of Jazz, Classical Music, Science, Literature, Food & Drink. Highgrove House, one of the homes of Prince Charles, is less than half an hour’s drive as is Westonbirt Arboretum, with its stunning new treetop walkway, the longest in the UK. Appealing to children in particular, the nearby Cotswold Wildlife Park, the numerous attractions at Bourton-on-the-Water, and Cotswold Farm Park provide plentiful entertainment. The cities of Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham and Oxford are all under an hour’s drive away. Located just over an hour from London, it’s the ideal place for families or a group of friends to spend time together at any time of the year.

The Loft at The Retreat is a lovely unique and OFF GRID space in a stunning location. If you're not put off by it's low ceiling and minimal electricity (we use solar power for lighting/phone charging and have a portable DVD player which guests can use) Our shower is an outdoor shower with hot water and the toilet is a compost loo. The kitchen is a basic outdoor set up and guests are welcome to dine at our Viking inspired long table. Guests are also welcome to use our pizza oven and BBQ.
Whether it's Roman Cirencester or Bohemian Stroud, riding stables or glider experiences, quiet walks or just a chance to escape that you're after, there's something for everyone here. The loft is on our campsite which can site 6 tents so you may end up sharing the site with other people and dogs. We don't allow children under 12 and sorry no dogs allowed in the loft. There is a train track which runs along side our site so please expect to hear the sound of trains every so often.
We are situated between two fantastic typical country pubs so if you fancy locally sourced food and beer it's just a short walk along farm tracks and along an old canal path. The village shop is a 30 minute stroll through fields with stunning views (it doesn't take everyone as long but the views can be distracting) Carry a camera at ALL times and if you're anything like me a memory card to help store all the photos I'm sure you will take. The wildlife/valley/weather all create the most amazing photographs. Don't forget to make time for a trip to the Winstone's ice cream factory, a tiny ice cream shop in the middle of the common.
