The Old Florida Lakeside Retreat
This is a spacious 2/2 home located directly on Lake Todd which is part of the 13,000 plus acre Tsala Apopka Lake Chain. Located near the end of a Cul De Sac in a small rural neighborhood, it is perfect for families with small children or anyone seeking peace and quiet because you will never see as more than five cars in one day. Grandfather Oaks, Hickory, Maple, and Old Florida Palms are home to a plethora of birds, hawks, owls, and a variety of cranes.
The other sections of our listing along with our photos (worth 1000 words!) provide the details and insight to The Old Florida Lakeside retreat.
This section (The neighborhood) is a big picture snapshot of some of the happenings in nearby towns and cities. Airbnb does not allow Hosts to provide links in our description. Instead, I have listed “key words” in my description that will take you to their website
INVERNESS - You are about ten miles from the farthest part of it. This is a small town, but what they have to offer is amazing. In their own words, "If you're looking for an Active Lifestyle without all the congestion of larger communities, you've found it! Inverness is the ‘Small Town-Done Right’". The City is a bit over seven square miles in size, yet packed with natural resources, recreational opportunities and awesome Festivals & Events."
Search “City of Inverness Florida”. This will take you to their official website which under the tab, ‘Things to Do’, it is nicely summarized in addition to listing 52 restaurants in the immediate area. I recommend you call first because in "small towns done right", a number of the businesses take off for a week or two over the holidays and when one least expects it, vacations.
CRYSTAL RIVER – is about 30 minutes away. If you want saltwater fishing, to charter a boat, swim in the gulf beaches, or with manatees, this is your closest option. Check out “discovercrystalriverfl”. It is a beautiful website and also covers other towns in Citrus County: Homosassa and Floral City. Once you locate the site, look for the link to their ‘visitors-guide’.
OCALA – Except for the unique attractions and parks of Orlando, “you will find everything you are looking for in Ocala” – golf courses, zip line over a limestone quarry, quaint shops, Mega-marts, chain restaurants and not. Three of our favorite are Chefs of Napoli, (interesting and refined Italian dishes, great atmosphere, excellent pizza), Piesano’s, (The best bolognese, calzones, and pizza), and Harry’s Seafood, Bar and Grill (crab bisque is the best). “ocalamarion”
Also, “feeldowntownocala” – Art, History, Fine Dining, and Entertainment
DUNNELLON- maybe 30 minutes away. This IS AN INTERESTING TOWN! What 'they' say: "Find the warmest welcome with small-town charm when you visit Dunnellon, Florida. From Rainbow Springs State Park to the Withlacoochee River and Lake Rouseau, Dunnellon offers a world of fun in the sun."
One of our favorite restaurants is "Stumpknockers on the River". Their rib steak grilled "Pittsburgh" and their catfish are my favorites...and gator bites... Janet always orders their shrimp, hot with butter, and coleslaw. If you want to eat inside, call for reservations. If you care to eat outside, you gamble on availability...unless it's cold! Another local favorite, totally Southern and Country, is the Front Porch Restaurant and Pie Shop Shop. They have good breakfasts, pies, and GREAT fried chicken.
BROOKSVILLE (35 minutes) and WEEKI WACHEE (1 hour) – Florida is a diversely beautiful. Silver Springs in Ocala and the Weeki Wachee River attest to that. If the mermaid show and water park are not your thing, consider kayaking or canoeing the Weeki Wachee river’s crystal-clear water, seldom deeper than four feet. You can rent Kayaks and such, but call for availability “floridasadventurecoast”.
“Visitflorida” offers considerable information on Florida Beaches and over 100 towns and cities, nearby and not! If you are in to driving, follow Hwy 98 along the coast from Perry to at least Destin.
