Detached studio with majestic, cliff top views over Lochbay and Waternish to the village of Stein & across the sea to the Outer Hebrides. We have the most amazing sunsets! Open plan, cosy, yet light and airy; a peaceful haven in which to relax. We've tried to create self catering, that is a tad out of the ordinary, with funky textiles & quirky local touches. Modern facilities, huge drench shower, dishwasher, log burner, free wi-fi. Huge Overwater House, next door, for a couple, also available.
The larch clad studio was designed by us to make the most of fabulous views. The living space is dominated by the huge window, right next to this is the comfy couch. The ceiling is high to create a light and airy feel to the compact, open plan studio. The oak floor helps to give the space a feeling of warmth and luxury. Opposite the couch, in the corner, is the log burning stove and on the same wall the tv. The kitchen is well equipped with a vintage oak table at which to eat. Everything in the studio has been made or chosen with love & care. We've consciously tried to avoid the neutral, high street look. The bed is king-sized with Egyptian cotton bedding. Included in the price is free WiFi. There is a small decking area on the sea side for guests to sit out on. The garden is enclosed. There is a privacy fence to shield the studio from the house next door. Logs are also provided for the stove and all electricity is included. The bathroom has a huge, walk in, drench shower. We’re not fans of fabric conditioners or tumble dryers so although the towels are Egyptian Cotton, they’re not the softest.
Waternish, in the north of the island, is one of the most beautiful parts of the Isle of Skye. It has magnificent views across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides. Blue Moon studio has undoubtedly one of the finest views on Waternish. Sit by the huge window & enjoy the constantly changing light on the water. There are wonderful boat trips from the local jetty. We're close to Stein with the oldest pub on Skye & Michael Smith's, 'Lochbay Restaurant'. Skye is 'foodie' heaven!

Right next to the shore - along which you can walk to the local Inn. Simple, spacious and basic. This bothy is our former home decluttered. One large, light open-plan room. Small range & wood-burner provides heating and hot water. Composting toilet.
This is an old stone building with a more recent stone end built by my brother Donald Icky Maclachlan - stonemason. It is very basic but it does have double glazing. The track down into the bay at Camuslusta is very steep. Although some people can find this a bit daunting, the track has a fairly good surface and all the residents of Camuslusta drive normal cars up and down it daily. The front door of the bothy practically opens onto the beach. Although the track to our house runs between the bothy and the shore. You can watch the gannets, gulls, herons, oyster-catchers, seals and occasionally an otter from the front door or through the windows. With views over to the uninhabited headland opposite, out to the little islands at the head of the bay, or of the shipping crossing the Minch between us and the Outer Isles. The bothy has one large, light and spacious, open-plan living, kitchen, sleeping room. The bothy offers flexible sleeping arrangements - there is a double bed and also a 1930's sofa bed which is probably not that comfortable. Depending on what is required - I can also make up another single bed or another double. Get in touch if you would like to have the sofabed and the two double beds - this is possible. The kitchen is very basic. One step up from camping - it's inside, and there's a sink and a fridge. It has a small wood-burning range which heats the water and also two-ring gas stove for quick cooking. The bothy has basics like an electric kettle, electric toaster, pans, plates glasses and cutlery. We provide basics like milk, oatmeal for porridge (and a recipe), tea, coffee, olive oil for cooking, salt, pepper. At the moment - guests can use the bathroom in our house for a shower. We have towels - not necessarily the fluffiest ever, but fine. As guests you will have the option of using a simple composting toilet outside (until the new grander composting toilet is built) or the toilet in the house. Our house is a short distance along the track and the bathroom is in the extension by the front door. There is a telly but it only plays videos. There are a few videos in the cupboard - a small but varied collection. Do not expect this bothy to be immaculate - it is a more than a little worn around the edges - but it is a beautiful space in an amazing spot.
The view changes with the weather - very atmospheric moody windy wild wet days and then you wake up to the clear beauty of a sunny day - looking across the still loch to the unpopulated peninsula opposite. Just step outside and you can wander along the shore towards the village, to the pub (the Stein Inn) or the small craft shop. You can book a boat trip out from the jetty at Stein. Stein is roughly a twenty minute walk. Or you can walk the other way to find some peace and quiet. The Stein Inn serves food and there is also a small seafood restaurant (for which you probably need to book) - if walking to Stein, you can also walk around the road, which takes a bit longer. Or you can drive.

A cosy, open-plan cabin for two overlooking the sea with outstanding views north to the Outer Hebrides; east beautiful Loch Snizhort, south views to Raasay and the mainland; and the ferry port of Uig and Trotternish Mountains behind. The accommodation comprizes a lounge area, well equipped kitchen, washing machine, toilet/shower room, and double bed on the mezzanine standing room restricted, wifi, plenty of books, maps and DVDs, No TV. Good mobility is required to access the mezzanine floor.
The Cabin is compact but has a great feeling of space inside. It has a marine theme with its furnishings, artwork, some of its wall lights and boaty staircase. There are also a few objects originally from old boats. The Cabin is on a working croft and lies within its own garden and next to the croft house.
The surrounding area is a quiet crofting community along a single track road next to the sea and the countryside also makes the Cabin an ideal centre for walking or off road cycling, with paths through the forestry or out to the lighthouse on Waternish Point. Boat trips are available nearby at Stein, or Portree and farther South from Carbost and Elgol.

Waternish is remotely located off the main tourist routes. It is a perfect base if you want to unwind and enjoy the magnificent scenery from the wild moorlands behind the cottage to the wonderful sea views to the front. The history of the peninsula is a long and sometimes bloody with clan feuds, massacres and de-population during the Highland Clearances. The area was traditionally populated by the Clan MacLeod whose clan seat is at nearby Dunvegan Castle. The name Waternish is derived from the Old Norse vatnenes or "headland of the pond", . Waternish was originally a crofting community (and some crofts still remain) but recently Waternish has become a base for tourism and it is now home to various arts and crafts businesses along with the oldest pub on Skye the Stein Inn.

Our guests often tell us that they wished they'd booked for longer than a day and that they wished they'd known about the sunsets and the plentiful breakfast, including milk, fruit juice, bread, cheese, hams, tomatoes, other tailored dietary items, in advance. here is your heads up! :) We heat all of the water for the house by a combination of solar tubes with a back up heat pump, into a 210 litre water store, so you can tell your friends that you have been bathing in Skye sunshine!
Waternish is a designated natural heritage area famous for its sunsets, dark skies and for having had the singer, Donovan live here! The house is a newbuild, not yet on online maps, in the small hamlet of Lochbay. Two minutes down the hill from Taigh Glas (a gaelic name for our house meaning grey house) is the oldest inn on Skye; the Stein Inn, famous for its whisky collection, and beside it; Lochbay Restaurant, famous for its chef who was a michelin star chef in another island restaurant, before setting up in Lochbay. There are also a few good tourist shops around Waternish and a sea trips boat for sight seeing seals and dolphin. If you walk to the end of Waternish you can sometimes see the minke whales swim by. There are also buzzards and sea eagles to be spotted circling overhead.

For the couple that doesn't want ‘compact’ on holiday: huge, quirky, detached house on magical Waternish. Four, full height windows offer magnificent, unrivalled views, across the small islands of Lochbay to the Outer Hebrides, beyond. Watch glorious sunsets and sea eagles from the huge deck. Full of local art, plants & Ercol furniture; the log burner ensures year round comfort. The house looks down on pretty Stein, with its boat trips, Stein Inn and the Michelin starred, Lochbay Restaurant.
All the rooms, with the exception of the bathroom, have far reaching sea views. There is no road between the house and the views, so you will not see cars while enjoying those views. The huge decking, is quiet and peaceful. All the pictures in this listing are taken from the house or decking. Unfortunately, however, the pictures do not capture the size of the place; this is definitely not the compact, bijou version of holiday living; all the rooms are extremely spacious. This detached house is dominated by four large windows, one in the kitchen, three more in the lounge plus a large picture window to the side with its wonderful window seat. A large Ercol table means you can eat and watch the fabulous sunsets. This room has a wood burning stove for cosy winter evenings and a tv with lots of channels. The vast four seater feather filled settee is squidgy soft which you can both stretch out on here. This is our own home, full of local art and quirky artefacts. It will not be to everyone’s taste, but the neutral holiday home this definitely is not! The house is all on one level with hard wood, bamboo flooring throughout; the ample wool rugs add warmth and comfort. We particularly love the winter in this house, watching the weather sweep across the bay; the changing light on the water is a real joy. The well equipped, bright kitchen with its full height window has another Ercol table, ideal for breakfast. The kitchen door leads out to the deck which has chairs from which to enjoy those views. We often see the sea eagle hovering in the skies above the house. The kitchen has everything you would expect in a modern kitchen. There is a dishwasher, a double oven, microwave, fridge freezer, coffee machine and washing machine. There is also an armchair for enjoying that view. The large bedroom has a king sized bed with crisp, white Egyptian cotton bedding. There is ample storage; you will not be tripping over your luggage, here. The en suite bathroom has both a drench shower in a large cubicle, and a comfortable bath. The fitted sink unit with wc has more storage. The quirky art continues to the bathroom. Logs are provided free, WiFi is free. The TV has the Sky channels including BT Sport and Netflix. There are ample maps, books, tourist information to help you plan your holidays. We will clean the house ourselves to ensure it is spotless. All photos, here, are taken on the property.
We look across at a headland which is still wilderness, occupied by only a few sheep. From certain windows no other houses are visible. If you are lucky you will see eagles, including sea eagles overhead. The whole Waternish peninsula is fascinating: full of walks, bloody history and a range of enticing opportunities. The jetty at Stein offers a number boat trips. You can take a day trip to St Kilda, or one of the fabulous Divers Eye boat trips, around Lochbay. Gordon the skipper is a mine of information and you will take the best photographs of your holiday, on his boat. There are dolphins, seals, porpoises and if you’re lucky a minke whale! Overwater House is one of the first houses on Waternish which makes travelling to other pleases of interest slightly more convenient. Dunvegan Castle is in the next village, with the famous Coral Beach a few miles beyond. We regularly walk to Stein, about 30 mins away. We have been known to walk or drive to Stein and get a taxi back if we are spending an evening at the pub or the wonderful restaurant down there. Skye is ‘Foodie- Heaven’. We have some of the best restaurants in Scotland. The famous Three Chimneys is about 25 minutes drive away. We now have a new restaurant, Edinbane Lodge for that special treat. The Old School Restaurant in Dunvegan and the Edinbane Inn with its Sunday afternoon live music are hugely popular with our guests. Portree is approximately 35 mins drive away. There are many more eating places there and even an arts centre with live music theatre & cinema.

Allt Mor is a romantic, Grade B Listed, traditional Highland crofting cottage within its original 6 acre croft land. Although over 200 years old, the cottage has been sensitively modernised, combining all the charm of these beautiful old buildings with the comfort of a modern home. Located in Upper Milovaig, at the North-Western tip of the stunning Isle of Skye, it offers luxury accommodation in a wonderfully secluded location, with access to all the Islands stunning attractions.
The original stone-built cottage is one of the oldest buildings in the glen and has been extended at the rear to replicate the traditional relationship between a cottage and its associated weaving shed. The extension is barely visible from the road, thereby retaining the original character of the main building. The result is a building which combines the cosiness and charm of a traditional old Highland crofting cottage with a snug lounge with wood-burning stove and a large kitchen/dining area together with a modern large bedroom and bathroom with walk-in shower. The building has an exceptional degree of historic charm combined with the benefit of a centrally-heated and functional living space. The cottage is set well back from the road, is largely screened from public view by trees and shrubs and is secluded from traffic and other houses. It is set within its own cottage garden which provides a private, well maintained and tranquil sitting out area enclosed by dry-stone walls. Guests are able to take advantage of the associated croft land. There is a mown walk around the land and a bench at the rear of the cottage which provides extensive views across The Minch to the Outer Hebrides on the horizon – a superb place to sit with a drink to watch the sunset and enjoy the legendary landscape of the Isle of Skye. The centrally heated luxury accommodation comprises: Hallway / boot room with plenty of space for outdoor footwear and outdoor clothing; Cosy sitting room with a wood burning stove and a TV/DVD player; Fully fitted kitchen / dining area with a hob, oven, washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with a freezer compartment, toaster, kettle etc.; Double bedroom has a king-size bed with a large roof-light through which the starry skies can be viewed; Bathroom has a walk-in shower, washbasin and WC. Outside there is a private walled garden, a large parking area, buildings where you can store bicycles and access to over 6 acres of the original croft land. The price for your stay includes: Fuel (wood and coal) for the stove; Electricity and Gas; Bedding; Towels (kitchen and bathroom); Basic kitchen supplies.
The Isle of Skye is located off the north-west coast of Scotland, and is the largest of the group of islands known as the Inner Hebrides. Though Scotland has around 800 islands, Skye is one of its largest and most famous. Its mixture of legend, history, culture, food, stunning landscapes and wildlife make it a memorable place to visit no matter what your interests are. Allt Mor is located in the township of Upper Milovaig, part of the community-owned estate of Glendale on the Duirinish peninsular, at the north-western tip of the island. Milovaig overlooks Loch Pooltiel with its small harbour and black sand beach and has spectacular views across the Minch to the Outer Isles and to Dunvegan Head. The location is wonderfully secluded but, nonetheless, there is easy access to local amenities including a post office/shop, cafes and craft outlets and all of Skye’s major attractions. Dunvegan, with its castle, shops and eating places, is approximately 8 miles away. The largest town on the island, Portree is about 32 miles away. The cottage is located about 2 miles from Neist Point with its famous sea views, cliff top walks and iconic lighthouse - an excellent spot for bird and whale watching Visitors come here for many reasons, but whether it’s photography, climbing, walking, cycling, kayaking, bird and whale watching, or dining on its world famous seafood, the Isle of Skye leaves a lasting impression on everyone who stays, especially if you give yourself time to soak it up.

Whilst we hope that none of our guests experience issues during their stay, we do need to point out that due to the cottage's location on the Isle of Skye, some services can be tempermental and can take a lengthy delay to get resolved. Internet speed can be very slow and the service can fluctuate during the day and week. Mobile phone signal is very patchy on the Isle of Skye. Also, to replace any broken appliances, it can take weeks for a delivery to happen. We will at all times try our hardest to rectify any issues but please bear with us as there can be issues due to location that are outwith our control. Cottage directions and key information are emailed approximately 14 days in advance of the arrival date.
