The Regent's Chambers is a marvellous and comfortable place to stay, with super king beds, Netflix & Amazon Video, board games, self check-in and breakfast ingredients (except for milk!). There's a garden for relaxing in during nice weather (it happens!) and a real home-from-home feeling. There's free parking just outside the flat and it's a five minute walk into town (explore the castle and new gallery spaces), ten min to the station and ten min to Kynren. Durham is just a half hour away.
The kitchen is country style, with oak worktop and cream cabinets. It's fully stocked with basic necessities (tea selection, real coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, spices and herbs). There is also bread, spreads and cereals on offer (though you need to bring milk). The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. Don't worry if you forget your shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as it's all provided for you. There are two big bedrooms with super king size beds and pillowtop mattresses, very soft 400 thread count sheets and feather pillows. The living room has a 49" Smart TV with freeview. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat has its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. There's a large double sofabed (14cm full double memory foam mattress) and a single daybed (3000 pocket pillowtop mattress). Both beds are super comfy and have lots of pillows and cushions for maximum cosiness. There are double curtains in the bedrooms and living room, which all look out onto the street - the voile is to ensure privacy (but still lets in the light) plus lined blackout curtains on top. The flat is on the ground floor so it's more accessible for people with limited mobility, but note there are three shallow steps up to the front door so it's not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking is easy - there's lots available on Etherley Lane and though there are single yellow lines around the corners there are no other restrictions (except don't park in front of other people's houses as it annoys the neighbours!). It's best to park just outside the side gate on Etherley Lane, where you first check in. During Kynren days there is parking enforcement on the street but parking permits are provided in the flat for you to use. You can use smart check in to get into the flat with a code I give you at booking, so you can arrive whenever is convenient, even in the small hours of the morning. Have a lovely stay!
Known as the gateway to Weardale, Bishop Auckland is a bustling market town in the Vale of Durham, standing high above a meander in the River Wear with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Walk fifteen minutes from the flat straight into the beautiful grounds of the magnificent Auckland Castle, the country residence of the Prince Bishops for more than 900 years. And don't miss the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival which takes place in the castle grounds every April. It's AMAZING. Surrounding the Castle are the 800 acres of the Bishop's Deer Park - a great place for a summer picnic or an autumnal stroll through vividly coloured parkland. It's open all year round and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The town is set for major developments over the next few years, with a new welcome building at Auckland Castle, a new Museum extension, an institute of Spanish art and culture, and the redevelopment of the 17th Century Walled Garden which will feature stunning new glasshouses providing 'garden rooms' restaurant and event spaces. The town burst into life in 2016 as Eleven Arches presented the first season of ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’ - the £31 million open-air live action night show that attracted more than 100,000 visitors during the summer. Kynren returns in 2017 to take audiences on an epic storytelling journey through 2,000 years. Bishop Auckland's historic town centre has a thriving arts and cultural offering, with the Bishop Auckland Town Hall home to a superb library, cinema, theatre and arts complex. Plus, the town has more than 200 shops - head for Bondgate for boutiques and specialist shops that you won’t find on the high street. A mile from the town are the remains of Binchester Roman Fort, home to the best preserved Roman military bath house in Britain. And at Escomb, you can see one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe at the restored 7th Century Escomb Saxon Church. It's one of the first churches in the whole of the UK, so not really one to miss. Don't forget also the National Shildon Railway Museum for train enthusiasts. Shildon was pretty much the birthplace of railways so do please go and check out an engine or two. Bishop Auckland is very well placed for trips to lots of local castles, the North Pennines and day trips to Durham (half hour drive).

Set in a conservation area of Bishop Auckland, this spacious and welcoming flat is in a great location for visits to Auckland Castle, exploring the Pennines and visits to Durham. Kynren is also a short walk away. After a great day out come back to the gorgeous, light-filled rooms, cosy fireplace, comfortable sofas, speedy internet, super king size beds and spa bath. Couples, individuals, business travellers and families with kids (any age) are all very welcome.
The flat has two large bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for your belongings. The super king size beds (6ft wide), one with 2000 Pocket Spring Memory Foam Mattress and the other with 3000 Pocket Pillow Top Spring Mattress will give you a restful night's sleep. In the sizable living room, the comfy full double sofa bed with memory foam mattress is accompanied by the chaise longue, cosy armchair and mahogany dresser and corner cabinet. The 49" 4K smart TV is in the corner, connected to the fastest internet available in the area (up to 74Mb) and a TalkTalk TV Box allowing you to pause and rewind 80 freeview channels. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat comes with its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. The sofa bed is a full double memory foam fold-out version, so no uncomfortable crease down the middle that you get with clic-clac beds. There is plenty of storage for your clothes and belongings in the dresser, allowing you to properly unpack as you wish. In addition to the usual central heating (new radiators installed throughout), there is the very cosy gas fire in the living room, which is easy to operate and comes with children's safe guard for those of you with little ones coming to visit. The heating is easily controlled throughout the flat with a Nest thermostat - which also means the apartment will be nice and warm ready for your arrival. If you prefer more tropical temperatures there are also three electric heaters in both the bedrooms and living room. The dining kitchen is well stocked, both with essentials and with good cooking equipment. There are pots and pans of course, but there's also a slow cooker, steamer, weighing scale and juicer. When you arrive you will find real coffee for the cafetiere and a selection of teas. Herbs and oil are also included. The kitchen has a slimline dishwasher and washing machine too, which will help a lot for those intending to stay longer than a couple of days. There is bread in the freezer, plus a selection of spreads and cereals. The fridge has a water dispenser, butter and a bottle of prosecco! (You will need to bring your own milk, though). The bathroom has a corner bath with whirlpool jets. There is a standing shower (in the bath) so the bathroom is great for a quick shower before work or for long, luxurious bathing! There is a backyard too for some outdoor, private space away from the street. This is shared with the flat below, which is also airbnb. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions :)

The Pink House is a unique holiday cottage: small enough for a romantic weekend; big enough for a family holiday. The decor is a quirky blend of the rustic and the industrial with the addition of driftwood artifacts made by the owner. (Please view the photographs). Pricing starts at £80.00 per night for up to four guests. For each additional guest there is a charge of £20.00 per night. There is no charge for the hot tub.
The Pink House was built in the 19th century to house employees of the Weardale railway. Originally a two up two down terraced cottage with an outside toilet, it has been extended and improved and now has nine rooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen is spacious, well equipped and includes a range cooker. The dining room can seat up to 12 and has a smart TV. The living room has a wood burner, a TV and an extensive DVD collection. On the first and second floors are the five bedrooms.
Wear Valley Junction is a small rural hamlet in the Durham countryside. It is a mile and half from Witton le Wear, three miles from Bishop Auckland and nine miles from Durham City. The Weardale railway passes through, 100 yards from the cottage. Alongside the line is a path to Witton le Wear and a bridle path popular with walkers and horse riders runs past the front of Engineman's Terrace to Howden le Wear. Low Barns nature reserve is a short walk away. Neighbours run a small holding and keep sheep, pigs, hens, ducks and turkeys - often to be seen in the fields at the front and rear of the terrace. Wear Valley Junction has a thriving wild bird population and many common species can be seen.

Leave the hustle bustle of life behind, wake up to the sound of the birds, watch deer wander through the garden, stargaze around a campfire at night, switch off and relax. If this sounds like your ideal get away then come and stay at Apple Tree Lodge. Our wonderfully light and airy eco lodge is hidden in 500 acres of mixed woodland on the banks of the River Wear. The wood and straw bale constructed building is solar powered, can sleep up to 6, has an open plan kitchen and living area.
Apple Tree Lodge is a venue for people who love the outdoors and being close to nature. The lodge is light and airy. The open plan downstairs consists of a well provisioned kitchen with a gas cooker and fridge freezer, a dining area, lounge area with a TV, a walk in shower and a separate toilet. The upstairs consists of 2 bedrooms one with a double bed and one with twin beds. Between them there is a mezzanine floor with a computer work space and cabin bed. Extra put-you-up beds can be provided if necessary but this would need to be discussed with the owners. Please be aware that the bedrooms are accessed via a steep flight of stairs. Along the front of the lodge there is a glass covered veranda and large lawn to play and relax on. With no mains electricity, gas and water we need to be mindful of the resources we use. The lodge is powered by batteries charged up by a bank of solar panels and backed up by a generator in cloudy weather. We ask that visitors bear this in mind when visiting and leave their power hungry electrical items at home - particularly the hair dryer. Our water source is from a local spring and if that runs dry we have a bore hole. The water is treated on site. Apple Tree Lodge is situated at the bottom of our garden and we share our home with a selection of pets and livestock. Although we allow well behaved dogs we do request that they are kept off the furniture, the beds and when outside you keep them on leads and under control so that our dogs, cats, horse, chickens and peacocks can peacefully get on with their lives. Our home is nestled in a mixed woodland which is surrounded by a coniferous forest. If you are lucky you can watch the deer wander through the garden, see the buzzards catch the thermals above the house and hear the owls hooting in the trees. Along the bottom of the garden there is the River Wear and we also have a pond, neither of these water bodies are fenced so we ask that children are supervised at all times when out in the grounds and in the lodge. We have a large area of lawn where games such as cricket, Kube, football and rounders can all be played. Then if it all becomes too much there are hammocks to relax in. Please be aware that not all mobile signals work in the lodge and there is no WiFi at the property. Finally the property is accessed via a long forest track of approximately 1.5 miles. We will meet guests at the top of the track to lead them down. The road is not suitable for vehicles that are close to the ground.
If you want to escape the woods, then we are on the doorstep of Hamsterly Forest with its nationally renowned mountain bike trails, fantastic walking routes and adventurous play areas . Just over ½ an hour away and unmissable is the world heritage site of Durham Cathedral. Close by is the fabulous Bowes Museum with its internationally renowned collection of paintings, sculptures and archaeological artefacts. The magnificent Raby Castle is also on your doorstep along with Ushaw House, Chapels and gardens and Auckland Castle, with its amazing open air show Kynren, while Beamish Museum and Killope Lead Mine provide a fascinating insight into life in the early part of the last century. If you are happy to go further afield just up the North East Coast are spectacular beaches, castles, gardens and of course Hadrian's Wall.

Sleeps up to 5 . A charming, cosy traditional cottage dating back to 1870 in the small hamlet of Fir Tree, Crook. Although almost 200 years old, it has been mostly modernised inside to give modern conveniences along with retaining charm and character. 2 pub/restaurants in the hamlet serving excellent food. Although situated on the A68, the main road to Edinburgh, the cottage itself is a haven of tranquility with double glazing throughout. I live 3 miles away but am always on hand if needed.
A peaceful haven yet conveniently situated on the A68 for easy access to Durham, Newcastle, Northumberland and a great stop-off en-route to Scotland.
2 lovely quiet village pubs at either end of the row both serving food. There is also a local diner approximately 1.5 miles away also serves food throughout the day, pastries, cakes as well as take-out Sunday Dinners.
