This open style Chalet cabin allows lovely family/friend time together, but is plenty large to get away from each other. Moonlight Mooring is situated on a quiet cove of Upper Turtle Lake, a premier recreational/fishing lake. It has a 1 acre wooded lot with a large grassy area to play and picnic as well. On rainy days, parents can still enjoy the lake from the front porch and kids can play in the replica A-frame play house. Once the sun comes out, they can enjoy the play structure, throw in a line off the dock, spend some time in the canoe or kayak, throw a line in from the dock or spend the afternoon splashing in the water. The view from the loft is spectacular and the space allows a romantic get-away or a great room for the kids to bunk in together. There is a hot tub open all year on property, a pontoon available for rent, large private brand new dock. If you want a change of scenary, jump in the car and hit the casino or one of the nearby charming towns. Situated in the heart of Lake country, there are plenty of lakes to explore nearby. It is a short drive to major attractions including casino, hiking, biking, ATV/snowmobile trails, skiing, fly fishing, rafting and kayaking rivers, beaches, wineries, restaurants/supper clubs and festivals. One and a half hours to the Twin Cities or Duluth, 5 hours to Chicago.
With multiple bed configurations, Moonlight Mooring is the perfect location for a couple’s getaway, a girls or guys weekend, or a family reunion. Moonlight Mooring is accessible for older adults or people with disabilities with main floor bedrooms, two steps into the house and a gentle slope down to the lake. Moonlight Mooring can accommodate 2-8 people with 1.5 baths, two bedrooms plus a huge loft, a fully equipped kitchen, large open concept living/dining area with lake views from huge windows in the loft and main living areas. Moonlight Mooring has outstanding flexibility-you can choose how you want to set up your sleeping arrangements depending on your preferences. During your couple’s weekend, watch the moon rise over the lake from your comfortable retreat in the loft after a day of winter or summer sports and a great dinner for two at the casino or one of the local supper clubs. Want a family vacation with lots of kids? No problem-put the kids in the loft while parents and grandparents each enjoy the privacy of their own bedroom. Do you have small children who still need their nap? Put them in the bedroom at the back of the house, near mom and dad where they will sleep peacefully while you can enjoy the lake view and keep an eye on the other kids from the front porch. Two families can easily share the cabin and still have privacy.
Great Room, Kitchen and Dining Room
The great room is spectacular with a soaring ceiling, floor to ceiling windows facing the lake, and a beautiful fieldstone fireplace. Watch the deer meander by, the eagles soar, and listen to the call of the loon while enjoying the sunrise view from the huge wrap- around porch with a cup of coffee in hand. A large, well equipped kitchen allows the cook to be part of the fun in this open area. Enjoy a fire while listening to your family play cribbage or Monopoly on chilly fall evenings. This space is large enough to be set up for days worth of scrapbooking with family and friends. A dining table with the lake view seats the entire family, but who wants to eat indoors during the summer when you can picnic at the lakeside after grilling some mouth-watering steaks. Rainy days are no problem as you can enjoy the outdoors on the covered porch or just hop in the car and go to Shell Lake, Rice Lake, Cumberland or Turtle Lake. Moonlight Mooring has internet and TV, but likely you will be having so much fun, you will forget to turn on the electronics!
Upper Turtle Lake has a sandy bottom, and is a large, fully recreational lake where anglers can catch bluegill, large-mouth bass, walleye and northern pike and you can enjoy all water sports. Bring your own boat, use our canoe and kayaks or rent our pontoon. The yard is shaded with a combination of white and red pine as well as beautiful old growth hard wood trees including maples and oaks which provide spectacular fall color. Spend your afternoons fishing from the dock, napping in the hammock in the shade of the trees or visiting on the porch. Moonlight Mooring is literally just steps away from the lake, down a gentle slope. There is a grassy area at the lake's edge, so you can spread out a blanket and relax near the water . Parents can keep an eye on the kids from the porch while reading a book in serenity. Young children will enjoy hours of fun having their own get away in the replica A-frame playhouse which doubles as an overnight bunkhouse for pre-teens. In the evening, enjoy s’mores around your lakeside fire pit while telling ghost stories or reliving the great day you had on the water. There is a double garage to protect your car from the elements during the winter.
If you love winter sports from ice fishing, to snowshoeing, snowmobiling or skiing, you have come to the right place. There are many hiking, biking, cross country and snowmobile trails throughout the area including in Interstate State Park, Governor Knowles State Forest or Straight Lake State Park. Both the Cattail Trail and the Northern Railroad Trail can be accessed nearby. Go hiking at Cattail State Trail in Amery, Stower Seven Lakes State Trail in Balsam Lake or the Straight Lake State Park in Luck. Go tubing on the Apple River in Somerset, kayak down the Namekagon River in Trego, or take a boat ride down the St. Croix (a national scenic waterway) at Interstate State Park. Try fly fishing at one of the areas many streams. Beach buffs will love the sandy beaches with play ground equipment and picnic shelters at Beaver Dam Lake in Cumberland, Shell Lake, Rice Lake or Balsam Lake all about 15-20 minute drive away. Locally, there is a small beach on the Lake or you can take a short drive over to Pipe Lake which has a lovely sandy swimming beach near the public boat access. This area is a hunter’s paradise with many wooded and field areas offering abundant game. With 15 regional golf courses just a short drive away, there is a course for every type of duffer! No trip to Wisconsin is complete without going to one of the iconic supper clubs for dinner. If you still have energy after a full day on the lake, hiking or, in the winter, skiing or snowmobiling, nearby Turtle Lake offers a casino for adult entertainment. Neighboring Cumberland, the Island City, has a small town charm and fantastic dining. Another option is to build your campfire right on the lake, roast hot dogs and make s'mores (we provide the firewood). After the kids are down, enjoy a well deserved soak in our hot tub as you watch the sunset and enjoy the stars coming out while being serenaded by the loons and owls. Nearly every week throughout the summer there are local festivals, dairy feeds, art fairs and music to add to this memorable vacation.
The home is on a premier recreational and fishing lake that stays clean throughout the summer. There are neighbors, but you won't see them through the thick woods in the summer. We are three miles outside Turtle Lake in an area of multiple scenic lakes and rivers and near four major state parks and forest land. Public boat landing & park with small beach on other side of lake, but lakes with sandy beaches/playgrounds/picnic shelters within 15-20 minutes include Shell Lake, Rice Lake, Balsam Lake and Beaver Dam Lake in Cumberland. Pipe Lake also has a small swimming beach. Many great recreational and fishing lakes and streams nearby as well as smaller quieter lakes for canoeing/kayaking. There are plenty of biking and hiking trails nearby and ATV/snowmobile trailhead is within walking distance to property. Turtle Lake, Barron, Cumberland and Rice Lake all have shopping, good restaurants and pretty city parks. There are several supper clubs in the area (a must do) and the Turtle Lake casino is 3 miles away. Trollhaugen ski resort is 20 minutes away, there are 3 excellent golf courses in the area. For a fun day, float down the Apple River or kayak on the Namekagon near Trego. This area has almost weekly festivals and gatherings. Spend a day or two in Hayward to enjoy the Lumberjack festival in the summer or the American Birkebeiner (or Birkie) the longest and largest cross country ski race in the US in the winter. See the great ore boats and the gorgeous scenery in Duluth, about 90 minutes away. It is vacation central!
