Aberffraw - Welcome to the true capital of Wales! On the surface Aberffraw is a small, quiet village on the west coast of Anglesey at the mouth of the gently flowing River Ffraw renowned for its spectacular sand dunes and immense stretch of sandy beach. The village of today, however, sits on the site of a medieval ‘llys’ or princely court, born out of the Royal House of Aberffraw from which Llywelyn Fawr or Llywelyn the Great, descended. Llywelyn was the de facto ruler of all Wales, dominating Wales for 40 years. There is no denying the historical importance of the House of Aberffraw with many local places and names still bearing reference to this. Today Aberffraw is a peaceful and immensely scenic get-away-from-it-all village. Set right on the Coastal path, it is a walkers paradise with plenty of options for all abilities. Follow the path down the estuary and you will see birdlife of all kinds. Where the river meets the sea, you will enjoy endless views of the sea, mountains, Bardsey island and the Llyn Penninsula beyond. A walk in the other direction and you may see cattle grazing gently in the heathland, as you head over the impressive sand dune range to ‘Traeth Mawr’, literally ‘big’ or ‘great’ beach with its endless sands, this has been called the Sahara of Wales! The village boasts a fantastic pub ‘Y Goron’ or ‘The Crown’, which serves hearty, home-cooked food. The village shop is on hand for all the essentials and the thriving tea-rooms at Llys Llywelyn will make sure you will need to get walking, after you sample their home-cooked food and endless cakes! The Church in the Sea, or St Cwfan’s church is another must-see hidden gem. Built in the 7th century, the church now stands on the islet of Cribinau separated from the mainland by years of coastal erosion. Against the odds this beautiful little church stands proud and bravely on a rock, and is quite a sight to behold. Church services are held regularly in the summer months, with occasional weddings and Christenings, all of course romantically dictated by the tides! The cove in which the church sits, is a gentle walk of about a mile from Aberffraw village. If the village doesn’t offer you enough history, the nearby Neolithic burial chamber of Barclodiad y Gawres is a must see, not just for the history and heritage but the location, surrounding walks and views are stunning. Walkable along the coastal path, it lies about 4 miles from Aberffraw, or a short drive of 2 miles will bring you to a parking spot from where it is a 5-10 minute, fairly level walk by narrow path. Further afield the larger village of Rhosneigr is about 4 miles away by road, 7 miles if you take on the coast path – trust us, you won’t be disappointed. There is also a daily, regular bus service for those who don’t want to walk back! Whatever your plans for your Anglesey holiday, you will not fail to be charmed by the historic, proud and immensely scenic little Welsh gem that is Aberffraw.

In central Anglesey, the quiet village of Llangristiolus is ideally located for visiting the beautiful island as well as being close to Snowdonia and other North Wales areas. Excellent for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers, bird watchers, anyone with limited mobility and room for one dog, and travel cot etc for a baby under 2yrs. Located off the drive are 5 privately-owned cottages, converted farm outbuildings. Parking near your front door. Rear patio has a tumble dryer in the shed. Local shop/chippie 5min walk.
Don't worry about bringing basic food items. I leave a box of breakfast goodies with cereals, jam, marmalade, honey plus sauces etc. There is also tea, coffee and sugar. Butter and milk in the fridge and bread in the bread box to start you off. I don’t actually cook your breakfast! A bottle of wine (let me know via message your preference - red or white - or if you prefer ... cider / beer / lager) & bags of crisps to unwind you after travelling! Peace and quiet ...... Secure and safe ..... Friendly neighbours ...... Relax in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ..... Majority of island's landmarks can be reached after a leisurely drive on quiet roads. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR AIRBNB FULL ITINERARY EMAIL. SENT TO YOU 3 DAYS BEFORE ARRIVAL. IT GIVES YOU THE KEYBOX CODE & FULL DIRECTIONS! Plenty of easy walking, and the Forestry has cycle paths too if you are bringing yours. Back on the mainland lots to see and do. For the energetic travellers there is always climbing Snowdon and the ZipWire for the brave! Train up Snowdon for the less energetic! You can be almost anywhere on the island within half an hour or so. Carting track, racing track, regular Sunday car boot and market at Mona - something for everyone. On the island Plas Newydd National Trust house to visit, beautiful Beaumaris too. There are boat trips, rip rides, gardens, great food, art galleries and crafts, RNLI at Moelfre, South Stack Lighthouse, Copper Mountain at Amlwch, family friendly beaches - the list goes on. Recommend the Oriel close to Llangefni, for island history and artwork, next to golf range and course. On the mainland Bangor cathedral and town, Caernarfon, visit the mountains, slate mines, castles, gardens - whatever floats your boat! Yes, you can even hire canoes/kayaks by the day! We use the small local shops - very friendly, but Tesco at Bangor deliver and Llangefni has Asda, Iceland, Farm Foods, Lidl and Aldi. Fish&Chips, newspapers, milk, off-licence etc are 5min walk into the village, a pub - The Joiners - but check his opening hours first, as the landlord is a law unto himself! The White Lion in Newborough (less than 10min drive) is a dog-friendly pub, and serves meals too. There is also a cafe/craft room in Malltraeth, with great home-made meals and cakes. Details of a useful website for dog owners so you can find ‘dog friendly’ pubs is in the cottage folder. If you want it before, I can text it to you when you’ve booked.

Enjoy quite literally this little bit of paradise. Set in the stunning, unspoilt south west corner of Anglesey, overlooking the Snowdonia mountains and Llyn peninsula, our custom-made shepherd's hut offers you a genuine get- away from it all experience! It's a real shepherd's hut with our friendly sheep nearby, ducks, chickens and loads of open space to explore and relax in. This is a true 'off grid' stay, complete with eco- composting toilet, wood-burning stove, and working small-holding.
The view here is breathtaking and this with the sense of retreat is what we most want guests to experience. There's no wifi, so you can disconnect from the busyness for a while and reconnect with family and friends. This is glamping, built by us and our friends to make the most of the view, but without cutting corners on comfort and style. We have designed the space so that there's an option for up to four people to stay comfortably, with one double bedroom and the living area seating that can be made up into a second double bed. There's a barbeque and outdoor seating as well as a campfire circle you can toast marshmallows on! In addition, there's a small gas stove for you to boil the kettle inside on those wet days which occasionally occur! You will be able to park your car nearby on our land after you've unloaded your things but we do have children and animals so we want to keep cars off the field and away from the communal areas. You will have use of the bathroom, shower and washing up facilities down in the main house which is a couple of minutes walk away. There's also a fridge/freezer for your use in the utility room. The shepherd's hut is located in a field up quite a sloped track and about 150 metres from the house. The composting toilet which we've affectionately nick-named 'loo with a view' sits alongside the hut. In colder months we will provide the first basket of logs and thereafter, by negotiation. We could happily accommodate tents for additional friends/family at £10 a tent/per night on request.
Anglesey is a small island off the North Wales coast and close to the mountains and sea. We are located about 3 miles from the nearest beach and close to the vast Newborough forest where you can often spot red squirrels. Llanddwyn island is just on the doorstop as well which is a favourite for walkers, wind-surfers and photographers and has miles of safe, sandy beach. There are plenty of family attractions in the area including the sea zoo, Foel farm and the famous Halen Mon (Anglesey sea-salt ). Alternatively, if walking is your thing, the Anglesey coastal footpath offers a manageable challenge. If you want a lazy morning strolling around the little towns and villages, you can finish up in one of the many welcoming coffee shops where you can stop and watch the world go by. There are 3 supermarkets 12 minutes drive away and the A55 is very easily accessible.

Jai-Mor is perfectly located for all your coastal adventures! This delightful, bright family home overlooks the river & riverside beach which lead down to the beautiful sandy beach of Aberffraw. Jai-Mor has cosy open plan living spaces and superb panoramic views across across the dunes to Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula giving Jai-Mor a real 'wow' factor. Aside from the beach, there are countless walks from the house, plus a village shop, pub and cafe, so you can park your car for the week!
Jai-Mor underwent total renovation in 2017 to create this welcoming family home. The large ground floor open-plan living area has a fully equipped kitchen, dining table, sofa and wood burner, and opens out onto a large wooden decked area with views across the dunes. Go upstairs to the snug sitting room (with smart TV) to fully appreciate the panoramic views Jai-Mor offers. Furnished with comfy sofas its easy to while away the hours watching the ever changing scenery and local birdlife. Starlings can be seen regularly perching and flying in front of the gable window and House Martins return every year. It's fascinating to watch them so close! The master bedroom also makes the most of the views. On clear days enjoy the sun rise over Mount Snowden from your bed with your morning cuppa. Two smaller bedrooms are neatly located downstairs facing onto the garden, where there is a second wooden decking space to soak up the evening sun. The double bedroom has direct access onto the back garden. The main bathroom with bath and double headed shower is downstairs, and upstairs next to the master bedroom is a second loo and basin. There is a kids climbing wall for traversing (at your own risk) and a small sandpit. The porch area is the dumping ground for boots and jackets and has a washing machine, sink and box of beach stuff for kids (bucket and spades etc.) Please help yourself and return! Jai-Mor is new to Airbnb, but was let for 6 months during 2019 by a local holiday letting agency. Here are some of the reviews Jai-Mor received: “We had a very enjoyable holiday in a lovely holiday home. We have been to Anglesey on numerous occasions and stayed in several properties and this was certainly right up there with the best of them. We would certainly recommend the property to anyone thinking of staying there". "Lovely bright and spacious well equipped house, in a fantastic location, great coastal walks right on the doorstep. Would definitely stay again". "Such a special house with beautiful views and every home comfort. I loved cooking in the kitchen every night. Waking up to amazing views and enjoying nights by the wood burner. Thank you for thinking of all the things that make this feel like home from home. We will be back!".
Aside from being a lovely house, Jai-mor is all about location! The historic seaside village of Aberffraw, sits beside the banks of the tidal River Ffraw. Its in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the Heritage Coast of Anglesey. A short walk over the iconic pack horse bridge (or walk across the river when the tide is out!) and along the sandy riverbank leads you to beautiful Aberffraw beach, where surfing / paddle-boarding and body boarding are all possible. Staying on this side of the river, Jai-mor is less than a minute’s walk to the Anglesey Coastal Path with lots of lovely little coves to explore. Nearby is the delightful St Cwyfans Church or ‘Church in the Sea’ also reached on foot from the house. The large expanse of dunes are a paradise for kids and dogs alike, with wonderful plant diversity and birdlife. If you do want to venture a little further, Rhosneigr, a renowned water sports centre, has a choice of beaches, shops and restaurants. Barclodiad y Gawres (a Neolithic burial chamber) is located on the headland just beyond the pretty beach of Cable Bay, a mile from the cottage. Explore nearby Newborough Forest, home to the red squirrel and a fantastic area to explore both on foot or bikes. A walk along the beach here leads you to magical Llanddwyn Island. Also close by are the Malltraeth Marshes, an SSSI, supporting a large number of breeding birds. The now famous 'Marram Grass' restaurant set up by the Ellis and Liam Barrie (of Great British Menu fame) is located just beyond Newborough - book ahead! There will be plenty of additional information on places to explore and eat at Jai-Mor once you arrive.

Set within the small Llys Llewelyn heritage and accommodation complex there is ample parking and a thriving café and tea room, offering home-cooked food throughout the day, from breakfast, lunches and afternoon tea – with a too-good-to-miss selection of home-baked cakes and scones on offer! There is even a hair and beauty salon offering the very latest in beauty treatments so you can add pampering to your holiday to-do list! Ty Arthur –is an ideal retreat for two, offering the perfect village base for investigating historical Aberffraw, heading to the beach or exploring the wider sights of Anglesey.
