This is a simple home on a hillside outside of the town of Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic. It has 2 bedrooms, large living/dining/kitchen and terrace with ocean view. The garden is beautiful. 3 beaches nearby. Full time electricity/wifi. Secure
Depending on guests needs, laundry, cleaning and cooking service can be arranged for extra fee.
At the moment, we are only interested in monthly rentals.
If guests would feel more comfortable with a night watchman (very common in DR) this can also be arranged for an extra fee.
Serveis i zones comuns
The whole house is yours! There is a separate artist studio that is closed off or used when extra help is requested. If you are an artist and might want to rent the studio as well, we could talk about that.

We will not be in Rio San Juan during your visit. It will be the sister of the owner that will welcome you.
Altres aspectes destacables
This is not a luxury resort. It is a beautiful but simple house where you can have a more authentic experience in the Dominican Republic. But remember, this is the tropics and this is in a quiet, sparsely populated project just outside of town. However, the kitchen is fabulous, there is fruit from the garden almost everyday and it is very peaceful - especially at night. Many hummingbirds and butterflies visit the garden. We love it.
We keep the house spotlessly clean and would expect the same. It is not hard to clean and is minimally furnished ( just what's necessary). It is a quiet zone so we would not want any kind of parties, inviting of new friends or loud socializing taking place - these put yourself at a security risk. This is a place for quiet relaxation. The septic tank cannot handle toilet paper so a separate waste basket is provided for this. There is a shower head but no hot water. The water is stored in a cistern under the house and brought in by truck - we would expect the guests to be conscious of water use. However, for those who want to, what is in season in the garden is yours to eat (mango, oranges, figs, cherries, papaya, passion fruit.....the list goes on). We have a gardener who comes to take care of that and knows what would be ready to eat. Respect the furniture and cabinets. Use all the cooking utensils left for your use, but clean the kitchen daily as it attracts all kinds of vermin (again, this is the tropics). When leaving the house for any length of time, the entry door and terrace doors must be closed and locked. If leaving for more than a couple of hours, all doors and metal gates must be closed.

I am an artist and professor at the University of Waterloo. My wife, Karina, and I built this house in Rio San Juan some years ago and go there when we can. We have three children. Karina is Dominican so this house is our small piece of paradise in her native land. We speak English, Spanish and French so any communication could be in any of those languages. I love to paint and garden, my wife loves to cook (she's amazing) and host.
