L'allotjament

Rustic Cottage with loft bed up a sturdy ladder, deck, gas grill, green surroundings, walk across the grass to El Bano (sink, toilet, outdoor shower), microwave, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker, bar sink, fridge, TV, wireless internet upon request. Smoking only outside, please.
Minimum stay: one week
We speak English, Deutsch, a little French, Spanish and Solinger Platt!

If it's the season you might want to pick starfruit, passion fruit, yellow- and strawberry guava on the 2+ acre compound; coconuts are available yearround, shampoo ginger will give your hair that special shine and some kitchen herbs can be found near the cottage as well.

Just 5 minutes walk from the cottage you'll reach Steelgrass Farm. My brother-in-law offers educational tours of his chocolate farm 3 times a week! Very informative, fun and utterly ONOlicious.....bring some dark chocolate, raw Kauai honey and vanilla beans back for the folks at home!

Just 3 miles down the hill in Kapa'a town you find all the shops, restaurants and cafes you might like to visit. Right by the Moikeha canal and the historic Japanese lantern you'll see the quaint public library with internet access. Of course, there are numerous cafes as well that offer wifi: Small Town Cafe, Cafe Hemingway and Starbucks, to name a few. Dinner choices in downtown Kapa'a are: Scotty's, Backyard's, Sushi Bushido, East Side and yes, you got to try Olympic Cafe across the road for Happy Hour on Fridays, 4 to 7, cheap beer and free tacos!
That's just a few places in Kapa'a town........
Right behind the library you will also find the longest section of our Multi Use Coastal Path: Walk, jog, cycle or roller blade up North to the biggest sandy beach near Kapa'a - KEALIA - where you can swim at the North end or try surfing - lifeguard present till 5 pm. Then continue on all the way to beautiful wild Donkey Beach and see humpback whales out there between late November and April!

The closest beach which is safe for swimming at any time is Lydgate Beach Park, right next to the Wailua River mouth. it's a 60-acre park with lots of amenities, walled seawater ponds, showers, pavilions, picnic tables, barbecue pits, playground, lifeguard station and a 2-mile-long path for walking, jogging, cycling and more.

Charlotte's cabin was absolutely charming! It's perfect for people who like the "off the beaten path" kind of vibe. We had an amazing stay, and what a PERFECT location. We will definitely be back to Kaua'i and hopefully, have the opportunity to stay at Kai's Cottage again :)

Great, quiet cottage/bungalow in Kapa'a. amenitie. Charlotte was very friendly and helpful, see provided all we needed and more to make our stay comfortable. The cottage is the perfect spot for getting rest and gearing up for the next day since it's nearly in the middle of the island, surrounded by jungle. The outside shower is absolutely awesome and provides a change from the usual beach resorts. The cottage is close to restaurants in Kapa'a like Java Kai and Olympic Cafe, plus plenty of hiking trails nearby! I'd stay with Charlotte again for my next trip to Kauai.

Charlotte was a great host. We were warmly welcomed and giving a tour of the property upon arrival. She even provided us with fresh fruit from her trees and bug spray (quite necessary). Her description is accurate in that the cottage is rustic. You'll share your space with geckos, and other occasional bugs. She provides more accommodations than what's listed, which was a nice surprise. There's a two burner portable electric stove top, outdoor sink for dishes, all the eating, drinking, and cooking ware needed. Those items saved us money so we only went out for dinner. There's also a fridge, hot water kettle, microwave, toaster, spices, and first aid kit. There's a TV, but you're doing it wrong if you use it. We enjoyed our morning visits with one of the neighborhood cats. A must is a visit to the Lydgate chocolate plantation (Steelgrass Farms). It's a 5 minute walk from the residence and you'll taste all the tropical fruits and chocolate Kauai has to offer. In all, Kai's Rustic Cottage fulfilled what we were looking for--an immersion into Kauai. We highly recommend!

If you want to experience the Island like a native, with it's jungle, it's free roaming chickens, it's gecko's, and stay in a place where you might imagine Robinson Caruso is your neighbor, this is the place! One of my favorite things about the place was the outdoor shower and bathroom facility. It's very private (surrounded by jungle). Makes one feel native and free! Charlotte was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the island, and all it has to offer. A genuine Island experience, and close to hiking trails and 7 minutes drive to the ocean!

Very lovely place and good price. You def need a car to reach this cosy home and it's a nice ride to it. It's close to the lovely historic Kapaa town which we really liked. We loved everything about the apartment; the outside shower, the high house, high level of the bed, the sounds of the forest, our gecko friends... It is too bad you can't really stay on the patio because there are a lot of musquitos that bit us, but yeah it's in the forest so that's to expected. We went to the beach at evenings anyways and watched tv on the couch which was my favourite place!

Thank you so much for being really appreciative guests in Kai's Cottage....and especially for being flexible when the fridge decided to die on a Saturday night! Hope you will come back some day!!?!

Great place to relax and enjoy a good nights sleep. Very comfortable beds, usable kitchen, nice deck, quite outside of the 2 short rush hour periods and dark area. We enjoyed a very friendly and behaved cat visitor for breakfast and dinner. Really enjoyed all the unexpected extras upon arrival in the fridg. Had a very nice time talking with everyone. Great hikes are minutes away. Impressed with the well maintained property give how much nighttime rain they get.

Originally from Germany I was very fortunate to move West halfway around the world, via Cornwall, UK, and Washington, DC to the most beautiful rock in the middle of the Pacific - KAUA'I!
John and I have lived here for the last 21 years and enjoyed the company of many visitors - family, old and new friends, many of them through airbnb: Traveling to and fro this remote island can be challenging; thus having the world come to us has been greatly rewarding!
When not working as a tour guide I enjoy hiking, swimming, reading, gardening, the Great Outdoors at large, volunteering with beach cleaning and selling fresh produce at the Farmers' Market.
I'm a big aficionado of slack key music; also like tango, Fado and French chansons. My favorite foods range from organic greens to spicy curries....and part of my heart and soul will always be in South India!
