Two-story cottage perched on a hill overlooking Mountain Lake in Smallwood hamlet, Bethel. Reclaimed wood throughout this new custom home with modern-rustic charm and top-notch amenities. Come relax and enjoy the picturesque view and full-on nature.
The house is perched on a hill among the trees overlooking Mountain Lake in Smallwood. Stone stairs from the drive wind down to the yard and front door. The first floor consists of the full kitchen, dining room, half bath and living room with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the lake. Both the kitchen and bathroom have radiant heated flooring, a toasty treat during the fall and winter months. The kitchen is well stocked with all cooking necessities and features stainless appliances including a convection oven, microwave, and dishwasher. The living room opens onto the deck that faces west and is the best spot to take in the sun setting over the lake.
The centerpiece of the first floor is the sun drenched staircase made of reclaimed wood. All of the trim within the house is reclaimed lumber from the original summer cottage on the property. The cottage proved too far gone to save but was deconstructed board by board and given a new life inside.
Upstairs is the full bathroom also with radiant heated flooring and a skylight, two large bedrooms, and laundry room . Each bedroom has a queen sized bed and space to sneak away with a good book or tablet for those who can’t unplug - no judgment - we had Wi-Fi before running water.
This is the last house on a dead end road so there is zero traffic. The property is heavily wooded and very quiet. The abundant trees make for excellent bird watching. We have spotted eagles, three species of wood peckers, ducks, geese, and bats at dusk (not technically birds).
The house is best for two couples, but there is an inflatable queen mattress that will fit in the sitting area of the master bedroom or in the living room. The large sectional will also accommodate additional guests if necessary. All sheets towels, blankets, and pillows, are provided as well as a HE washer and dryer.
The lake is a private lake for members only and they check at the beach. We aren't members and I swim in the lake all the time off of the dock notwithstanding the no swimming signs. No one has ever given us trouble but you should swim at your own risk. The worse case scenario is some busy body comes and asks if you are a member and gives you dirty looks until you get out of the lake but that's highly unlikely. The signs are really just for liability in case you drown.

We hope you love our home as much as we do.
We do not permit any pets in the house. Otherwise, please just treat our home with respect and leave it how you found it.
I'm a world traveler who appreciates the mix of city and country living. NYC (Boerum Hill Brooklyn) is my home. My friend Teah and I own a great little cabin near Phoenicia in the Catskills 2 hours north of midtown Manhattan. My boyfriend Eli and I just built a sweet house on a lake in Bethel also in the Catskills.
By day, I work as a public interest lawyer fighting evil banks in court and advocating for LGBT rights. All other times, I swim, run, bike, drink well, eat well, cook, read, listen to great music, and sort of just wander around taking it all in.
I genuinely enjoy playing host and meeting people from around the world.
