Mheall Cottage is a traditional stone cottage right in the heart of the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Dalriada. Ideally located among the stunning west coast scenery between Oban and Inverary, and right by National Cycle Route 78, Mheall Cottage is a perfect 'home from home' to base yourself at while you explore this endlessly fascinating area of Scotland. The guest area has separate access, ample parking and includes a private breakfast/day room which is yours to eat, relax and plan your day in.
The spacious main bedroom is clean and light, the king-size bed is comfy, and the ensuite shower is awesome.
The lovely view out of your windows will reveal the sea, a castle, a nature reserve, local wildlife, the Isle of Jura and Knapdale forest.
With your own entrance and private breakfast/sitting area you almost have half a cottage to yourself, so come and stay for a few days, relax, and make Mheall Cottage your home-from-home as you enjoy exploring the area.
[Just to be clear - if you are booking for three people I have a second (single) bedroom which will be opened up for you. This room has a separate WC and washbasin, but will need to share the shower in the main bedroom which is why it isn't bookable separately. This room is the only option for accommodating three people and is not available unless you book for three.]
A basic continental breakfast is provided, and there is a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster all available for your own use at any time; there are also shelves full of maps, books and information to help you plan your day while enjoying your morning coffee.
If you are looking for a comfortable and unique place to stay with someone local who knows the area well you are on the right page. The reviews of Mheall Cottage from previous guests tell all the same story - a story I hope you will add to yourself once you have visited!
Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting you.

I grew up in the area so I have excellent local knowledge, and having worked for the Scottish Tourist Board I really enjoy helping my guests plan their excursions to all the amazing places to see in this beautiful and unique part of Argyll. I can also help you plan your onward journey north or south.
I am an internationally-minded person who has traveled widely and lived in several different countries - I love meeting folks from around the world and I look forward to meeting you.

A basic 'continental' breakfast is provided for you consisting of muesli, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, tea, bread, butter & jam etc. You are welcome to bring your own food and store it in the small mini-fridge (e.g. cheese, yoghurt, etc) while you are here.
There are several good local options for your evening meal - I will point you in the direction of my top suggestions (or you can check them out in my online 'Guidebook'); most places close their kitchens at around eight-thirty so plan to eat out early in Argyll. Alternatively, by all means bring your own light food and eat in by making use of the microwave in the breakfast room.
Broadband is of 'variable' speed - email and basic internet is fine but please don't expect to be streaming HD movies while you're here!
At the moment Mheall Cottage is not really properly equipped to cater for very young children, hence the 'Family/Kid Friendly' option is not checked because the criteria covers a very wide age-range of 2-12yrs. However, if you are three people and traveling with an older child (say 7+) I think you'll find the extra single room a perfect addition.
Cyclists welcome! I am located right on National Cycle Route 78 (Campbeltown to Inverness.) Mid Argyll is a popular cycling area in itself and there are lots of good routes to explore around here. I have a lockable shed for you to store your bikes in overnight, and some basic bike tools etc should you need them.
Mheall Cottage is not a guaranteed nut-free household, just in case you have this type of severe allergy.
Please understand that Mheall Cottage is surrounded by fields, farmland and livestock, carefully managed by the Poltalloch Estate in the best traditions of Scottish Highland farming; this means in the spring you might see lambs being born right next to the house, and/or sheep-dogs working the flock, but in the summer they might be being driven past your window at 7am on their way to market. It might mean you hear things that go bump in the night such as deer or foxes foraging around outside the door. A bird or a bat might get into the house through an open window. We might have a power-cut, or the phone line might go down in high winds. Tractors and farm vehicles pass by from time to time. Game hunting takes place in the area. If any of these aspects of everyday country life disturb or upset you, perhaps you might be better off seeking accommodation in the town.
FINAL NOTE: I have a young puppy here. You are very unlikely to hear her and she won't be allowed anywhere near your private area of the cottage (there's a dividing door) but she loves meeting people if you're up for it!
As with all Air B&B accommodation, for your comfort and safety I invite you have a quick read of the House Manual when you arrive - thanks!
