My little house is good for active couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with older kids) and has two double beds. The public transport connections are fantastic, Starcross Station is just a few metres away giving easy access to Plymouth, the holiday towns of Teignmouth, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren and City of Exeter as well as a direct line to London! The local ferry can take you to Exmouth in twenty minutes.
This cottage is a very conveniently situated and flexible space in a quiet residential area. The cottage is next to the road and railway line so brilliant for train enthusiasts and simple to get to. Great for business travellers as the train station is just a short walk away and the light living room is a relaxing place to set up your laptop at the table. Brew some of the fresh coffee I provide and enjoy a productive morning in your new office! The cottage is business ready with a hairdryer, an iron and a table - top ironing board and so ideal for interviews or business meetings in Exeter, just 10 minutes away by train or further south towards Plymouth. Family or friends accompanying you can enjoy the beach whilst you work or travel into meetings.
The cottage used to be part of the Old Alexandra Hotel and was built by the local Powderham Estate. It is grade 2 listed and sits opposite the grade 1 listed pumphouse Isambard Kingdom Brunel built for his unique Atmospheric Railway. Although the railway idea didn't work there is now a main line train station in its place. The pumphouse is an imposing building and now part of the Starcross Sailing Club.

The property consists of a bright kitchen, a downstairs toilet with bath and shower and an airy dining and sitting space. There is a cosy front room next to the main Exeter to Dawlish road and a small hall with a front door opening straight onto the pavement and road. Because this front access enters onto the road I always use the rear courtyard access and door into the bathroom / kitchen space of the house.
From the dining amd living space there are steep stairs up to the small first floor landing and bedrooms. The front bedroom has a blue nautical feel with a view over the rail line and estuary to Exmouth. The larger rear bedroom looks over the spire of the local village church to hills and woodland beyond and has a fresh feel. There is a very small courtyard with a rear back gate and pedestrian access to the house. There is no off street parking so if you come by car you will need to park in the village just a minute or two walk away from the house on foot. Due to the busy main road at the front of the house I always suggest guests use the rear door to enter and exit the house.

I am always on hand to answer questions via text, phone, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) or email and will happily take text messages or phone calls. I like to give guests the space to make the house their own for their stay. Generally services in the house should be self explanatory but if there are queries please contact me rather than puzzling!
If you would like to take part in activities during your stay I can take you on a foraging walk along a local footpath to explore wild edible local plants (you could even take them back to the house to make a meal of them!). I can also arrange for you to visit a small deli in Teignmouth to sample one of their crab sandwiches or wraps. If they're not too busy the deli staff will be happy to show you a locally caught fresh crab and where the different meats come from, so that when you get home you can amaze your friends by getting beautiful tasty food from a hard-shelled sea creature! If you love sea food there is a well known sea food restaurant in Teignmouth which I would be happy to put you in contact with. You can also visit the amazing floating cafe in the middle of the Exe river which you can catch a water taxi to. If you would like to get on the water I am also able to put you in contact with sailing schools and kayaking and other watersports centres so you can enjoy our stunning coastline. Whatever kind of holiday you are needing we can help you achieve that! (I do need some notice to organise these extra activities and there will be extra charge).
Altres aspectes destacables
There is no parking space included with your stay.
This is a quiet residential area and guests are expected to be reserved and polite with neighbours.
Guests should respect neighbours needs and noise levels should be kept to a minimum.
I expect guests to be quiet between 10pm and 8am. During these times there should be very low noise outside ie whispering only and no music outside.
If you arrive or depart during this quiet time please have a torch with you to avoid trips and falls, whisper only and close doors as quietly as possible.
The heating is run by storage heaters. The house is generally a warm little space but I keep the heaters on a minimal level during the day in cooler weather. If you need extra heat please turn the output level up to 6 but remember to turn down again before you go out or leave the property.
There is a phone line in the property. All phonecalls will be charged for after check out. Internet access is available at extra charge but many visitors prefer to occupy themselves with outdoor activities during their stay and want a step change from their hectic lives.
This is a shoe-free house. Please don't wear shoes in the house. Leave them by the door or pop them in the base of the airing cupboard.
My neighbours and myself expect a good night's sleep. I expect guests to be quiet between 10pm and 8am. This means only whispering if you are outside in the courtyard enjoying the last of the evening sun and no music outside during these times.
There is no parking available in the rear courtyard. Do not attempt to park there or make arrangements with neighbours to borrow their spaces, my listing states that you can park in the locality and access the house on foot. If you're staying for a week I can usually arrange for you to park on the forecourt of the premises next door while you load and unload. Please ask if you'd like more info.
I expect the house to be left as you find it as I charge a minimal cleaning fee for household hoovering and linen change only. Please leave surfaces clean and leave dirty towels in the bath.
Please thoroughly wash, dry and put away your crockery and cutlery neatly during your stay and leave any last minute washed up items on the drainer.
No smoking is permitted in the house. If you are a smoker you may prefer not to book this accommodation.
Breakages will happen and I'm relaxed about it but please tell me if kitchen items stop working as they should or you break a mug, just because it gives me an opportunity to replace or repair before the next guest. Thanks!
