Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast is located right on the water, in the heart of Borgarnes’ historical center, in one of the oldest houses in Borgarnes. While less than 2 minutes off route 1 (the ring road), you'll feel like you're in your own world, yet still able to walk to restaurants, cafes & the city center. The beautiful location, outdoor space, neighborhood and ambiance combine to create a perfect place for couples, groups and solo adventurers. Our license prohibits guest use of our kitchen.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Due to the special pricing offered via AirBnB, breakfast is *not* included in the room rate. Our highly-rated breakfast is, however, available for purchase for one or more nights of your stay. Also, all guests must be at least 8 years old at the time of stay.
Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast is established and well-known, and has been offering rooms to rent for approximately eight years. We only recently decided to offer rooms on AirBnB due to feedback from our guests. We have lots of experience as AirBnB guests and hosts, and sincerely believe your experience will be a positive one.
Your room had the beds replaced in 2016, and all new linens are high-quality cotton damask with down comforters. The exact appearance of your room's interior may change, as we might change out smaller items, such as pictures and other furnishings, as we identify items appropriately suited for our B&B.
Guests have access to three shared bathrooms. One shared bathroom is one of the doors off of the round hallway on our upper level, another bathroom is directly below that one behind one of the doors off of the round hallway on our lower level, and the third shared bathroom is 3-4 meters down the hallway, which is another door off of the round hallway.
There is a guest lounge inside our lower entrance, convenient for storing your shoes, taking on your coats, etc. Most guests choose to hang out in the larger common space on our upper level. This space includes a large living and dining room, with couches, tables and chairs, overlooking the garden, backyard, and sea. Yes, you can walk to the island during low tide, if you are so inclined. The tide comes in rather quickly, so please pay attention, otherwise you will meet our local rescue squad. :)
Hot water and coffee are in the first room past the kitchen, and there is a small guest refrigerator if you need to keep something cool. There is a microwave in the cabinet above the oven, as well as a coffee maker and water kettle to the left of the sink, should you need them.
Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast is fully approved and licensed by all relevant agencies in Iceland for both accommodation and food preparation. Because we are licensed for food preparation for others, guests are not permitted to use the large refrigerator or freezer in the kitchen, nor prepare any food in the kitchen.
Guests can heat or reheat any cooked food brought home from restaurants, as well as any cooked and pre-packaged food purchased in any of the stores. The microwave and conventional oven are available to heat or reheat these items; however, guests should not use the cooktop for any purpose.
PLEASE: NO UNATTENDED COOKING! We have had a case where a guest overcooked food in the microwave to the point where the food caught fire.
Guests have access to garden areas of the property. There are tables and chairs outside for use. In addition to the main backyard, there is a lower plateau where guests can sit and enjoy the view and sunsets. Note: During winter, we need to take the furniture for safety reasons, due to possible wind gusts. Guests can also access the walking path by the sea, from the backyard.
To the left, this path follows the sea towards the Settlement Center Museum and Restaurant, and other sites. To the right, this path leads to the Bjössaróló Playground (stay to the right where the path forks about 30 meters from the B&B), as well as large fields where football (soccer) and other track and fields events are held, and the community swimming pool facility. This pool is heated with geothermal water from one of the most powerful hot springs in Europe, Deildartunguhver. (also worth a visit)
Serveis i zones comuns
Guests who have booked with Airbnb, can go directly to their room and do not need to ring door bells or wait for a formal check-in process.
You will receive a message from us with detailed information about how to find your room as well as other information about our B&B.
We live in the house and are available for assistance or help at any time during normal check-in hours, and can of course send us a message at any time outside of those hours, and we will do our best to reply as fast as possible.
Both floors of the B&B have their own entrance, and guests can access the other floor internally using our unique curved stairway. The stairway is curved because both the upper and lower levels feature round hallways. The upper level even has a few of the original curved doors.
Interacció amb els hostes
Your hosts live on the lower level of the B&B in their own apartment. We are available for advice about what to see and do in the area, or if you need anything. Otherwise we stay out of your way and let you enjoy the house.
Guests arriving during the B&B's regular check-in hours of 15:00 to 18:00 (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM) will most likely meet their hosts while checking in other guests, if not, please send us a message once you have logged into the free WiFi, when you have arrived safely and found your room, so we know everything is okay.
Altres aspectes destacables
Guests may choose to purchase breakfast at Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast. Cash (ISK), Visa, MasterCard/Maestro, as well as most debit cards are accepted. Our breakfast buffet features a selection of breads baked in our own kitchen, smoked salmon, soft and hard cheeses, our unique blend of coffee, and the largest selection of tea in Borgarnes (if not all of Iceland!).
Guests with special dietary needs, such as gluten free, vegetarian or vegan, should let us know as far as possible in advance, so we can do our best to maximize your dining options. Even if you choose not to purchase our breakfast buffet, guests are encouraged to eat and socialize in our large dining room. Coffee and tea are included at no additional cost.
It's hard to miss that a central theme throughout the house is around dairy cows. Hardly surprising, since the B&B's previous owner was a dairy farmer for almost 30 years, and the wife of the current owner was a dairy farmer for nearly 20 years.
The farm, Miðhjáleiga, is located in south Iceland, near the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall (the one you can walk behind). It was the location used for an internationally-acclaimed ad for the Icelandic beer Boli, and is also known for the very famous and beautiful horse Krít frá Miðhjáleigu.
The farm was once home to hundreds of horses, cattle and sheep, along with a few chickens, dogs and cats. One of the milking cows, Áma, still holds an Icelandic record since 2003 for the largest quantity of milk produced, along with the highest fat and protein content.
- As stated elsewhere in our listing, our special AirBnB price does not include breakfast; however, our breakfast buffet is available for purchase on one or all mornings of your stay (price is ISK 1.950 per person, and can be paid using Icelandic kronur, Visa, MasterCard and most debit cards
- Our specific license does not permit guests to use our cook top/stove for any reason; the oven and microwave can be used to reheat food brought in from restaurants, and pre-cooked meals purchased in stores
- There is absolutely NO SMOKING anywhere in or near our house; guests who smoke must go to the street in the front, or the ocean in the rear (PLEASE dispose of all waste appropriately, and do not bring used tobacco products into our home)
- We have a guest fridge located in the area off the kitchen, as our license does not allow guests to share our main refrigerators and freezers, as these are used for storing food we prepare for our guests (there is an ice maker on the counter in the kitchen)
- All guests must be at least 8 years of age on the date(s) of stay
- At least a few stairs are necessary to enter and exit our home; the internal staircase should be used only when not carrying luggage, as it is a bit narrow and curved
- In Iceland it is customary to not wear outdoor shoes indoors, so please leave your shoes by the entry door, or carry them to your room
- Arriving late? No problem! Please be courteous to other guests who might have retired early
