This airbnb unit was on the third floor of a small complex with a nice view of a Dutch "pond" (small man-made lake) and a patio with two comfortable lounge chairs facing the pond. Access was by stairs or elevator. Being an American who last traveled to Europe 42 years ago, I expected the unit to be small, but it was pleasantly larger than expected. The beds were very comfortable. The living room sofa was large and also very comfortable. The kitchen was modern and fully equipped although we cooked very little. We particularly liked and make frequent use of the European-style coffee maker which made one or two cappuccino-sized cups of strong coffee at a time and, at night, the television's Chromecast adapter to cast Netflix from our cell phones. Secure wireless Internet service was also available. There was also a laundry/utility closet containing a small, front loading, high efficiency washing machine and a rack for drying. We ran several small loads of laundry because we packed only carry-on luggage and stayed nine nights. Just outside the unit, opposite the pond, was a shopping center including two supermarkets, a Blokker department store, and many other shops, large and small. There was a bike shop there too, but they only sold bikes. They did not rent out any bikes. Three different bus stops were within four to eight minutes walk. The Amersfoort Schothorst Train Station was a twenty minute walk, which could be shortened by taking one of the buses, if desired. Netherlanders and Europeans are bike, bus, tram, trolley, subway, and train savvy, but vacationing Americans will make life easier for themselves if they will study various transportation apps, stop at Tourist Information booths, ask about prepaid travel cards, and not be afraid to ask politely for help from locals. Almost all Dutch speak at least Dutch and English. The majority also speak or at least understand some combination of: German, French, Flemish, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, etc. We got lost or took the bus or train in the wrong direction at least once per day, and friendly locals helped get us going back in the right direction. We used the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Translate app frequently, but mostly for our own edification. Money was a little tricky. Generally, you cannot get cash from an ATM unless you have a local bank account. We wrote our son, who lives in the Netherlands, a check. Then, he withdrew Euros in cash from his local account to give to us. Our Bank of America Travel Rewards VISA credit card worked at the Schiphol Airport Train Station and some restaurants, but did not work at the Amersfoort Schothorst Train Station. Our Wells Fargo VISA debit card worked at the Schothorst Train Station, the supermarkets, and some shops. But, cash in Euros was often the only option. We only rented a car for one day, to drive to Bruges, Belgium, and my son drove. Americans can drive on their American driver's license, but I wouldn't recommend...

My stay at Dorien's place was really great. Big apartment, with every furniture needed for a business trip. Dorien made it all easy for me. The location was perfect too, quiet neighborhood, close to pretty much everything you need (supermarket, bakery, restaurants, banks, ..). I recommend!
