The Cabin is a nature-lover's paradise, a peaceful, romantic retreat full of character and charm. It is a 1930s wood-panelled cabin set in an orchard, part of the beautiful mature garden of our home. It consists of a bedroom, bathroom and old-fashioned kitchen with wood stove. We are situated at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, a 5-minute walk from ancient standing stones and chambered cairns and a short cycle from Moine Mhor nature reserve, Crinan Ferry beach and the award-winning Kilmartin Museum.
The Cabin is a 1930's wooden garden house. The rooms are wood panelled and the curved ceiling is reminiscent of an old railway carriage. With windows on three sides it is very light. When the weather is fair, sunshine pours into the bedroom from morning to evening. We have kept the original features and added vintage and retro furnishings. There are two comfortable single beds with electric blankets (we can put these together on request), a bathroom with bath and toilet and a kitchen with kettle, toaster, small fridge and old Belling cooker (electric). The Belling is fairly limited but will cook eggs or pasta, heat milk or grill bacon with success. You may wish to bring your own breakfast or if you prefer, we can provide a DIY breakfast, including freshly laid eggs. A Scandinavian wood stove heats the cabin (wood provided) but there are also electric radiators and blankets to keep you snug. The Cabin is a peaceful haven where you can read a book, play games or listen to the radio (or the birdsong!).

The Cabin is best suited to couples or solo adventurers. For larger groups, there is potential for camping in the orchard next to the Cabin, but this would have to be arranged prior to your visit. There are steps up to the Cabin and it is necessary to walk through our garden to reach it. There is a parking space at the end of the drive. The Cabin is close to our traditional stone-built house, but is in a quiet spot so privacy is not a problem. Guests are free to make use of a quiet patio area if the weather is conducive to eating outside, to sit in the orchard with a cup of tea or enjoy looking out over the countryside at the back of the cabin. The garden is really magical in May when the bluebells and fritillaries are out.

We know how important it is for guests to have their own space. You have total privacy in the Cabin and can rest assured that you'll be left in peace to enjoy the areas around the cabin. We are on hand if needed and are happy to share our knowledge of the area. We have lived here for 20 years and do a lot of walking, cycling, kayaking and wildlife watching. We are also involved in the local cultural life and community, so can suggest plenty to do if guests are looking for inspiration. The Artmap weekend is a great opportunity to tour the area and visit artists' studios from 25-28th August 2017. One of the studios is opposite our house! There are wonderful concerts at Crear: a Space to Create near Kilberry, which people travel hundreds of miles to experience. You can even volunteer at an archeological dig at Carnasserie Castle 22 May-29 June.

The Cabin might not be everyone's cup of tea. It has no wifi (though it can be arranged if necessary) or television. The mobile signal is weak. The steps up to the Cabin are slightly tricky and the surroundings are dark at night so it's best to bring a torch. A lantern is provided in the Cabin.
Chris is a primary school teacher. Keen on outdoor activities.
Helen is a musician and music teacher. We have three boys. We love our house and garden. Our cabin is a very special old building which we would like to share with others who might appreciate its charm.
