"In the city of Chicago,as the evening shadows fall, there are people dreaming of the hills of Donegal" -Barry Moore. Modern, some say quirky, unique, story 1/2 bungalow, with alternative layout.Nestled some 70m up the 290m of Coolcross Hill, site of the mythical court of Geall Cosa the intended, but banished bride of Niall, King of the fairies of all Inishowen. Coolcross being the inaccurate translation of Cnoc na cGeall Cosa.
Designed, built, furnished and decorated with things - Irish, Donegalese and wholesomeness in mind. In keeping with Ireland's temperamental climate, there are numerous things to enjoy within, allowing you to relax and let the world keep turning! All emphasis has been put on making the cottage a relaxing haven for all who visit and encouraging a family focused place to spend well earned break from metropolis! Decorating the house has been a bit of a past-time for me. I have spent a lot of time there in the off-seasons indulging in my interest in art. I like Celtic stuff in particular and have decorated the walls in images and artwork that have taken my attention in the past.

All areas of the house and property are available for use, nowhere is off bounds. I hope to have the garden, which is slightly wild at the moment converted to organic vegetable growing for visitors in the lower area and a small orchard with wild meadow in the upper area. An outdoor chess set at the rear of the house,is in progress and will be completed by the end of the summer

I live in Derry City which is 35 minutes away from the house. I'm available if there are any difficulties or additional needs. I have used the Irish in naming the house and location. I have only a few words of Irish myself, Tá mé cupla focla as they say. The house name translates to The Oak Branch or the Derry Branch. The townland is Ráth Sionnaigh which means the Fort of the Fox. Cluain Maine is the Meadow of the Monks and Baile Libh Finn is the townland of the White .Herbs

I like to think of Doire na Craobh as an alternative location for visitors who want a relaxing experience with a twist of something different. I have provided Seaweed packs, Epsom Salts and Baking Soda for relaxing baths.
I hope to make electric bikes available for hire for the more energetic. I am also researching the possibility installing a Rainwater Harvesting System, to allow visitors the pleasure of totally wholesome water for drinking, cooking, washing and bathing.
Treat the house and facilities with the kindness, its your place for the duration of your stay and most importantly have a wonderful relaxing stay. The stone floors and staircases may prove a slight difficulty for under 2s
Single parent of two boys; Niall and Ruairi and currently in a relationship with my lovely partner Olive. I'm in my early 50's. Semi-retired Water Engineer, now working in the field of Water Management Consultancy, and The Arts; painting, computer graphics, pottery, writing and a little acting. And Holiday Host at Doire na Craobh of course. I have a great love of Gaelic Sport especially Hurling. I also enjoy good food and take to hill-walking to burn it off and recently enjoyed two trips to Spain to part-take in The Camino de Compastila, a truly wonderful experience. To which I hope to return, to complete the pilgrimage and take in the fantastic scenes of Northern Spain. I also hope to travel more. I'm hoping to get to Italy soon, I've never been before, but I aim to find the time. You'll see from pictures of the grounds, that gardening is not my forte, but I am working on it. I don't have a life motto as yet, but my Family Motto is Semper Fidilis, always Faithful and I try to live up to it.
