I am a retired Civil Engineer. Sarah is a musician and plays piano and organ. We both love to garden, both vegetable and flower. We have been married for 53 years.
The 18 acres that includes the guest house has been our home since 1968. We built the brick house that you pass first on Windmill Drive as 20 somethings and there, and in our present home adjacent to the guest house we raised our children Ellen, Laura, and Joe and lost our son Frank as a 13 year old.
Joe and I built the guest house together over a period of about a year when he was 15 and 16. We hired the electrical and wallboard and carpet installation and did the rest the two of us, pouring the foundations, laying the block, framing the house, installing the windows, doors, and siding and outside trim, roofing, plumbing, cabinets, inside doors and trim, painting and flooring. In the house is a book of photographs that shows some of this work and when I recently looked at them again, it seemed to me that Joe is more enthusiastic in the earlier photos than in the later ones. Nonetheless, it must not have been all bad for him for he has done a lot of building since. I know that having the opportunity to work with him in a major building project meant a lot to me.
Sarah and I both love music, children, our children and grandchildren, growing things, books, the town and the people of Montevallo. I also love computers and sailing but there we part company, or rather part with the sailboat which then gives me more time to serve as computer interface for her.
we very much enjoy meeting and talking with people from places far from Montevallo. Since our home is close by the guest house we will do our best to make your stay there and in our town a pleasant one.
