Country retreat in Kent and also close to London by train in only 37 minutes. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, wonderful old English villages and the seaside is very close. There is so much to do here for all ages.

I'm very sorry that you didn't seem to have enjoyed your stay Bastiaan and I wish that you had brought these issues to my attention during your stay as during the few times we spoke over the phone you seemed happy and relaxed. The shower door does keep coming off it's hinges because guests are not using it gently, as is often the case; when a home is not someone's own, they don't tend to care for it as well. When bookings are back to back and over the Christmas period, you will find it is almost impossible to get something like that fixed as everyone is on holiday. I felt a note on the door of the shower asking guests not to open that side of was sufficient, and wouldn't have bothered most people. As the listing is in fact my home, I do not agree that it is shabby. It is a very old property - dating back to 1800's and some people prefer something a bit more modern. Others find staying there a unique experience. The house is very clearly described. I think Bastiaan's group may have struggled a little as they were a group of 4 couples and some of the rooms are not set up for couples, i.e single beds etc. But I feel it is up to guests to make up their own mind as to whether it is suitable for them. I daresay there were not many other options for them, given the property's reasonable price, or they would have found somewhere more expensive that was more suited to their own particular needs. As the property is my home, some of the equipment is indeed locked up. Like my Mums old china. There is nothing that is locked up that could be of any possible use to guests. I do not agree that the kitchen is not well equipped. I was asked for an extra food mixer for the guests, and I provided it. Nothing else was asked for so I am surprised that Bastiaan is saying it is not well equipped. I cannot imagine what else they could have possibly needed. Shame he didn't ask me for whatever it was he needed. Prior to Bastiaan's arrival I gave him a phone call because my cleaning lady had not arrived and I was in a bit of a panic because my horse had also just got stuck in a fence which meant I had to tend to that I could not envisage getting the cleaning done prior to his arrival. I felt I was at that point being very honest and fair about the situation and offered Bastiaan a large refund because I was absolutely mortified that the cleaning lady had not showed up. However, she then did show up and I believe did more than a superficial job at cleaning. And at the time Bastiaan did not complain to me at all about it. So I am again a little perplexed about the review and cannot help feel it is motivated by money; he thought prior to his stay that he was going to get a discount because I had initially offered it, and then in the ended didn't, and so he proceeded to nit pick a bit. When the following guests checked into the house after Bastiaan's stay. Neither the heating nor the shower were working properly because Bastiaan and his group had rather bizarrely switched all the heating off at the mains and the house had been left this way for a week which, again in an old house meant that I had to get my plumber to come out to look at it all to get it back up and running. Now it is working fine but it seemed only fair in my mind that as Bastiaan had caused the error that I shouldn't offer him a small refund which was only in my mind a gesture of good will because I had unnecessarily troubled him prior to his stay by informing him the house was not going to be cleaned to it's proper standards, when in fact it was in the end. It is a shame that Bastiaan has chosen not to take this at face value, and again I find that a little bit strange but there we go. I can only hope the next guests appreciate the house for what it is.
