Què farem?

This forest therapy walk will be 2.5 hours long, and the distance covered will be minimal, as the focus is on fully being and experiencing “here” versus “getting there”. I will lead you through a series of sensory opening activities intended to help you slow down, drop into your senses, and connect to the nature that surrounds you. You will explore individually, while also reconvening with the group throughout the walk to share your noticings, if you wish. Listening and being heard in this way helps to deepen and integrate your experiences. The walk ends with the sharing of tea – an infusion of a local native edible plant – a snack, and the sharing of experiences. Participants will often feel very relaxed after a forest therapy walk. They may also have had a meaningful experience, and gained insight about their lives both during and after the experience.

You do not need to have a profound relationship to the natural world, meditate, or have specific scientific or naturalist knowledge to benefit from this practice. Further, even nature enthusiasts will benefit deeply from this practice, as it presents a different way to observe and be in relationship with the natural world.

Lastly, nature healing and justice, and cultural healing and justice go hand in hand. It is for this reason that 1% of proceeds from each walk goes towards the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal.

I am a certified nature and forest therapist, and founder of Soft Earth Forest Therapy. I lead forest therapy walks in Montreal, on Mount Royal. I completed my certification with the Association of Forest and Nature Therapy last fall, I am in the process of becoming certified with the Global Institute of Forest Therapy (GIFT), and I am trained in wilderness first aid. In addition to building my forest therapy practice, I work with GIFT (and assisted their two most recent guide trainings), write poetry, publish writings related to the human connection to nature in its myriad forms, tend to my balcony gardens, and can reliably be found exploring the surprising, beautiful, and often overlooked natural pockets in my city.

On aniràs?

This forest therapy walk will take place along the small side trails on Mont Royal. As we will be off the main path, we will avoid the crowds. In this way, you will discover the mountain's quieter, more lush, and wilder areas, which is ideal for this practice, and the benefits therein. This green sanctuary is right in downtown Montreal, steps away from the action.

Sophie is infectiously passionate about connecting with the natural world, and has an attitude and philosophy about doing so that inspires hope for our generation, and our ability to fight climate change... I couldn't recommend this forest walk enough!!!
