Què farem?

I'll collect you from the meeting location and provide a safety briefing and trip outline before beginning our adventure in my 4wd vehicle. During our trip I'll provide commentary about the Wellington region, it’s cultural, natural and geological history, and the natural environment. From the city centre we'll drive upto the Brooklyn wind turbine scenic lookout for stunning panoramic views of Wellington city and the surrounding areas. From there we'll traverse rugged hills above the Wellington south coast with stunning panoramic views across to the Kaikoura mountains on the South Island and beyond. We travel along a private road to Hawkins Hill 500m above sea level, the highest lookout point around Wellington for spectacular unobstructed views across the Cook Strait to the South Island and across to Cape Palliser in the east. To the west we can see the Makara wind farm, and to the north the Tararua mountain ranges. Leaving Hawkins Hill we then enter Long Gully Station following 4wd tracks through rugged private land down, encountering wildlife along the way, to Sinclair Head for a closeup views of the NZ Fur seals. After a drink and snacks, we'll traverse The Gates of Mordor and along the 4wd beach track passing through the Taputeranga Marine Reserve. We'll finish our journey by viewing Wellington city from Mt Victoria, and then back to the city centre.

First let me say Raymond kindly offered to cancel the trip because the weather was rainy and foggy with low visibility. But, since we are hardy travelers we opted to take the tour. The directions from our cruise ship to the meeting point were spot on and very easy. It was one of the best tours we have ever done. Raymond is very personable and knowledgeable. We may not have had the stunning views that would have been seen on a sunny day but we were able to get up and down the mountains both on and off road. There were several stopping points for photos and we fed some deer and saw some seals. It was all very enjoyable. Do not hesitate to book this tour.

We had a wonderful time with Raymond and his partner. He took us on private roads that we wouldn’t have been able to access otherwise— the views were the best we’ve seen in Wellington. It was excellent value because of the amount of things we saw in just three hours. Lots of great photo ops and interesting facts and local knowledge. Would highly recommend!!

Truly a unique experience and great way to see Wellington. The highlight for myself was the stop to see and feed the herd of domesticated deer along the trek. Others in my group enjoyed Raymond’s knowledge of marine life and the surrounding area. It was great fun to get a more personalized experience as Raymond learned more about our interests he tweaked the tour to see specific things we were interested in. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get a more in-depth tour of the Wellington area.

This was simply one of the best tours we’ve taken in New Zealand! Amazing local person experience with Raymond (and Julia). This custom tour exceeded our expectations literally at every turn. We still can believe all the sites, features, and wildlife we encountered. Breathtaking scenery and encounters that just cannot be found on a crowded tour bus or commercial group. Raymond is personable and passionate about New Zealand and Wellington...his stories will delight and amaze. If you take only one tour in Wellington, this is it!

This was the best! We were all over Wellington and I feel like Raymond pick super places to take us. He also knew the history of the area. Raymond went above and beyond from what the description was.

This is a 4wd trip around the rugged South Coast of Wellington. The trip is scheduled for daylight hours, usually a morning a start, so differs from my other South Coast trip that is scheduled for guests to enjoy the sunsets. I am flexible around the start time of the trip. Bring warm clothing.
