Què farem?

I will welcome my guests in my home - according to Airbnb safety guidelines for person to person interaction during my experience - and explain to them why I choose the dishes we are going to prepare, all based on the concept of simple cooking reusing bread. Origin of the recipes, territories an old traditions they come from will be detailed.
Guests will prepare a whole meal based on a main ingredient: bread. Bread is present in so many family recipes that remind us the times when cooking was a question of few ingredients and nothing went wasted. The challenge was to make a good and rich family meal with poor ingredients. That's why bread has been used so widely in the Italian home cooking: simple dishes are still very popular for their great taste!

Bread Omelette or Bread and Vegetable nuggets : rich recipes for main courses

Someof the dishes above listed wil be presented already cooked, in order to have the chance to taste them, but all the recipes will be prepared at the moment, with the help of the participants who will experience :
1) preparation of the ingredients;
2) preparation of the dish ;
3) demonstration of the cooking (oven and stove).

I love good food and eating well, but I hate wasting food. 10 years ago, the consciousness of the great problem of food waste in our society, brought me to join the local Charity Food Bank in my town: Banco Alimentare Lombardia. Today, I run in Como its programme devoted to recovery and donation of fresh food surpluses for charitable purposes.
This changed my way of cooking and I specialized in “everyday-0-waste kitchen”, also through my blog http://www.messaggidalfrigo.it/en/ that collects recipes, mainly from italian tradition (writing is my job, as journalist and editor). I concentrated my attention on bread and published 2 books of recipes based on the use of stale bread.
Now, I want to share my competence in home cooking without wasting food, contributing to reduce food waste.

On aniràs?

My house gathers the art works of abstract rationalist painter Alvaro Molteni, my father. It is located in the "Rationalism bloc" of Como town: 5 minutes walk there are buildings by rationalist architects Pietro Lingeri and Giuseppe Terragni. I will be glad to explain what Rationalism and Abstractism mean for local cultural and artistic history.

Very nice and unique experience. Monica is local to the area so in addition to cooking she shares interesting info on the history of the town and local art. Very intelligent and nice conversations: we felt very welcome and left happy and full of both food and positive emotions.

Monica was very personable and kind. Accommodating for our poor cooking skills :). My partner was skeptical at first for the experience but ended up enjoying it! Highly suggest!

Fantastic cooking experience in an amazing Italian atmosphere. Monica showed us how to cook delicious meals using simple ingredients in a quick and easy way. Perfect thing to do for lunch and get some local insights from Monica!

What a wonderful experience! When my girlfriend first suggested that we go to a stale bread cooking class, I thought she was joking... but it was genuinely incredible and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Monica has an unrivaled passion for her course which is highlighted by the fact she has 2 stale bread cooking (and poetry) books published. She's a qualified editor and we left with our own detailed recipe book. We learnt about Italian culture, the art of sustainable food as well as rationalism art in Como. What a cultural experience! She even managed to change the way we make omelettes...! Monica is kind, warm and welcoming, I would highly recommend taking this course.
