Què farem?

“Plaça Catalunya” is the main and central square of the city that has historically seen many changes throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Our tour starts here, where I will be talking about the main attractions from this location, all the way up “Passeig de Gràcia”- which is the main avenue of this district. As we go up this avenue, I will be talking about the history and rise of the emblematic masterpieces from the Modernism era of Barcelona, and how they converted the city into the beautiful gem we see today. Some of the famous ones we will stop by are: Cases Antoni Rocamora, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, and others. We will then head to the metro station to get to the other side of the Eixample district. We will find the famous “Hospital Sant Pau” – which is not just a hospital, but also a beautiful piece of architecture by the renown Lluís Domènech i Muntaner. After I explain about the story of this incredible masterpiece, we will head down to the Sagrada Familia- a temple by Gaudí, which is yet to be completed by 2026. Our tour ends at this location, where we can either have lunch at the nearby restaurants, or easily take public transportation to our desired location.

On aniràs?

I will begin the tour with a wander up Passeig de Gràcia, one of the wealthiest avenues in Barcelona, which is filled with stunning Modernist architecture. These buildings are found in the Eixample district in the area known as “Quadrat d’Or” (Golden Square), which contains an extraordinary number of modernist buildings. We will end the tour at Antoni Gaudí’s famous Sagrada Familia temple, located on the right side of the Eixample district.

My tour guide was Jordana. Others were scheduled for the tour but canceled. So I was very fortunate to have a one on one experience with Jordana who ensured that the tour was personalized and met my expectations. And she did not disappoint. In particular, touring the outside of Sagrada Familia, Jordana explained key features of Gaudi's design that from a layman's eye I would have missed. Much that was shared by Jordana was reinforced and validated the following day when I took the Sagrada Familia tour. Because of Jordana's expertise, I was able to answer a question or two poised by my tour guide. I learned more than expected and gained a greater appreciation of Barcelona and it's rich history. I highly recommend this tour.

A super experience that really opened up the architectural history of the city. Our guide was very well informed and was also superb as describing each building. This would be a huge benefit is you were visually impaired but also added to the experience for all. I can't recommend this tour enough. As a wheelchair user it was also really lovely to be asked if I needed any assistance and for my answer to be listened to. I am lucky and am able to wheel myself throughout the tour, but our guide was obviously prepared to assist if I needed it. This was offered in a very friendly and welcoming way that was wonderful to see. If you are disabled this tour is well worth it and I know any access requests you might have will be met. The tour even included a stop at a location with a fully accessible toilet. That's how well planned it was. But disabled or not, this is a tour that changes the way you understand Barcelona and makes it an even more wonderful city. I won't say any more, but the theme of the tour is "look up". It was so good, next time we visit we will be going on another one of Janet's tours.

This was a fantastic tour that I highly recommend. I learnt a lot about the modernist buildings in Barcelona and got to see some fantastic architecture. I am a full time wheelchair user and the pace of the tour was great, and I felt like I could stop and rest if I needed to. I used a power attachment for my wheelchair which meant I didn't have to exert so much energy, which was really useful. I had a really great time and look forward to returning to Barcelona for some of the other tours :-)
