We ask our guests to meet 30 minutes before the trip to suit up and prepare themselves.
This tour launches from custom-built kayak docks in the calm water of Skyline Marina. You will receive a safety briefing and a basic kayak lesson before we leave the docks. Starting in the marina allows new paddlers to become comfortable in the kayaks before entering the more open water of Burrows Bay.
Although the weather and tides do play a role in our itinerary, most trips attempt to explore the shorelines of several small undeveloped islands located in Burrows Bay. These islands are off the beaten path of most tourists and we seldom see any other kayakers while we are out.
When the tide is low the intertidal life is exposed for us to see and a myriad of fascinating creatures show themselves to us. Larger wildlife is also present throughout the year. Seals are very common to encounter as are the smallest porpoise species in Washington. We often get great looks at Bald eagles, and occasionally Orca whales surprise us as they cruise through the islands! We always employ ethical viewing standards and so the frequency and proximity of our wildlife sightings will be determined by the animals. The views of the San Juan Islands and Olympic Mountains grace us throughout the journey.

After our exploration, we will return to the marina and unload at the kayak docks before bidding our farewells.

My wife, Megan, and I have been leading professional sea kayaking adventures and into the San Juan Islands for 24 years. Taking guests out on the water to learn about the natural and cultural history of the Salish Sea has been a longtime passion for us. With ethical wildlife viewing practices, we can help visitors engage in the local environment in a deeply personal way.
In addition to our tours, Megan and I also own a highly acclaimed kayak school that has been teaching people how to paddle for 17 years. Our leadership training is among the most respected in the industry and so you can be assured that you are in good hands.
Sea kayaking is perhaps the most intimate way to explore the islands and, with the help of a knowledgable guide, you don't have to be an experienced paddler to feel comfortable on the water. Join us!

On aniràs?

Burrows Island is a scenic 400-acre island located off of the shores of Fidalgo Island and tucked into Burrows Bay along with two other small islands. It is uninhabited, with a historic lighthouse located on the west side. The lighthouse is unmanned now but is still fully operational. The island is characterized by dense forest and rocky shorelines filled with intertidal life. Wildlife can be encountered on all sides of the island.

Check in at 8:00 am.
Make sure to check the weather when you are deciding what to wear. Remember that the air temperature will be about 10 degrees cooler on the water. It will likely warm up as we are out there and so layered clothing is best. You can always take layers off if you get too warm!

Què cal portar?

Layered clothing (sweatshirt and rain jacket, if weather dictates) Try to avoid cotton if possible.

Shoes that can get wet.
