Què farem?
We'll show you round our mini-smallholding. You'll see our different vegetable-growing areas, our polytunnel setup, our fruit trees, and you'll get to meet our chickens and ducks. We garden in the 'no dig' way that doesn't cost much, uses materials that would otherwise be thrown away, and in harmony with nature using permaculture principles.
When you arrive, we'll greet you with Tea/Coffee and homebaked cake. We'll have a chat about the history of our smallholding and the general principles that underlie what we do.
Then we start our tour. Our smallholding isn't very big but there is lots to see: vegetable beds, fruit trees, soft fruit patches, chickens/ducks, compost piles. As we walk around you'll be able to try some veg straight from the ground, and fruit, too, if it's in season. You'll be able to see how we construct our vegetable beds and pick up lots of tips and tricks for incorporating some of these into your own garden. You'll also have the opportunity to sow some seeds or plant some seedlings out, and if you like you can feed the ducks and chickens.
Other things to note
You don't need any gardening experience, just curiosity about how to grow your own vegetables.
Children under 12 do not need a ticket but can attend with an accompanying adult. Please message us to let us know they'll be coming along

I'm Mairi, a vegetable grower who moved to the Highlands in 2012. I am the founder of 'Highland Seedlings', and grow the vast majority of our the food I eat myself along with my husband Seamus. I also sell vegetable seedlings and help others set up their own vegetable garden. I am passionate about gardening organically and in harmony with nature, and with as little effort, time and money as possible (we don't dig here at 'Highland Seedlings'!). I love nothing more than getting folks excited about growing their own food! As a former academic learning and teaching are second-nature to me, and I am also well versed in accommodating any support needs you might have as I myself am disabled with chronic conditions.

On aniràs?
The experience takes place in the 1/3 acre 'no dig' garden and orchard in Fearn in beautiful Easter Ross, about 45 minutes north of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. We will spend time outside and in one of our polytunnels but if it rains we can do everything inside the polytunnel. We have been turning our garden into a food-growing space since 2013, and are constantly adding new beds, paths and structures.
