Què farem?

We will meet at 10 am at our homestead that has a great view on the Denali and the Alaska range. You will visit our kennel of rustic Alaskan sled dogs and we'll talk about the culture around mushing and sled dogs in Alaska. We will then have lunch at our home where we'll share our mushing stories with you (respecting any dietary restrictions you may have). Then we will go on a one hour walk through boreal forest with one or two dogs, where you will learn about high latitude ecology (forest, wildfire and permafrost), and the diversity and traditional use of Alaska plants. You will have plenty of time to get some dog love, take pictures and ask questions.
Other things to note
Don't bring your most delicate clothing ... you'll meet with a bunch of dogs who love kisses and you will be outdoor most of the time. So your clothing will be exposed...

I have been living in Fairbanks Alaska for 10 years. My biggest passions are ecology, Alaskan life style and my sled dogs. Traveling across the boreal forest and arctic tundra with my dogs is the best part of my life in the North. I'm also an ecologist and have a deep understanding of northern ecosystems (this is actually my daily job). I also practice a low impact life-style (off-grid) in line with traditional practices (berry picking, salmon fishing) . And I love taking people on the trails (hiking, mushing, snow shoeing) and talk about sled dogs, Alaska's natural treasures and life style.

An afternoon hiking with Helene and her sled dogs was amazing! After meeting each of the dogs, Helene had a wonderful lunch for us and she shared stories of the dogs and her life in AK. We spent time hiking with some of the dogs, it is an activity I would highly recommend you make time for!
