Què farem?

This is a brand new experience where I would like to share some cooking from my childhood memories. In my cooking class guest will be given the opportunity to discover and make some traditional Maltese recipes. This is a hands-on activity where guests will be expected to roll up their sleeves and participate in the preparation of some genuine home-made cooking.

The cooking class will also include a visit to the main square which used to be the main source of food shopping. We will purchase fresh produce needed for our cooking class. This can include a visit to a cheesemonger, fish hawker, and butcher.

Recipes will vary from one day to another as some guest might want to come on more than one day. Therefore on Monday/Wednesday we plan to make our own savoury snacks such as pastizzi, a Gozitan ftira, and traditional nougat. On Friday we will do some traditional home cooking classics such as Sfineg ta' l-Ancova (anchovy fritters), Bragioli (beef olives), and Mqarret (date diamonds). We might even do some other recipes from our menu at Maldonado Bistro below.

After cooking we will enjoy the fruit of our endeavours as a lunch accompanied with some water and wine.

Guests will be given a copy of all recipes as well as a food souvenir to take home.
Other things to note
It is important to inform me of any food allergies and/or intolerances you might have. I can adapt the cooking class if I am informed in advance.

I can arrange a pick up and back from/to the Gozo ferry terminal if you are coming from the main island of Malta.

Great experience! Aside from the very thoughtful cooking class, George also takes you on a walk through the neighborhood to get to know local businesses and stories. It was lovely and I recommend it to anyone!

Very personal cooking class experience with George, a local cook who also owns the restaurant where the cooking class took place. We recommend this tour if you want to cook examples of the typical Maltese kitchen while getting to know George, a few local producers and buildings, as well as the stories behind them. If you‘re ever on Gozo, George‘s cooking class is a superb way to spend your time! The food was great, we all learned a lot not only about the preparation of Gozitan dishes but also about the Gozitan way of life. George is an expert and a lovely host. Shout out to Milica, his helper in the kitchen, as well, for being so nice to all of us. Needless to say, I can highly recommend this activity.

We as a family had a great time with George and his employee Milica. We cooked fantastic food, went shopping, had a small sightseeing tour and could talk about Gozo a lot. Highly recommended. George is a great host.

Georges a véritablement su s'adapter aux circonstances et en particulier au fait que je venais avec mon petit fils (11 ans). Il a ensuite fait preuve de beaucoup de bienveillance, en parlant lentement en anglais. Enfin, son approche de la cuisine est à la fois très professionnelle et avec un sens du goût. La petite pause au marché l'a confirme, à la fois dans le choix des produits et dans ses relations avec les producteurs. Bref, un seul regret: ne pas avoir pu aller dîner dans son restaurant, mais notre programme était chargé ! Next time....

This cooking class was fantastic! My family was unfortunately late thanks to horrendous traffic leaving Valletta, but we were able to make it to class and missed almost nothing (because they waited for us, which went above and beyond expectations!). Going to the local food shop was really special, and as I am a vegetarian I loved that I could customize the dishes we cooked to suit my dietary restriction. This experience was one of my favorite parts of being in Malta!
