Què farem?

This unique culinary walking tour starts in the oldest public park in the world, from there we will visit a Pulqueria to taste a famous pre-hispanic drink known as; 'The drink of the Azteca gods’. After which, we will head to a lovely terrace spot to have Mescal cocktails and eat a Tlayuda, a delicious regional dish from Oaxaca.

Along the way, I will share a variety of historical stories about Centro, President Benito Juarez, Alameda Parque, China Town and much more.

We will then head to a Gastronomy Marketplace to eat Mole Poblano another terrace spot. After a walk through Centro and Chinatown, we will reach the city's most famous and vibrant market; San Juan Mercado, which has been in existence for over 500 years, this is also where the leading chefs shop for their fresh produce!

In San Juan Mercado you will see many exotic types of meat, such as Lion, Tiger, Crocodile, Armadillo, insects, fruits, cured meats, cheeses and so much more. I will guide you around the market where you will get to taste many samples.

We will also meet a certified chef Raul in San Juan Mercado, where we can get cozy and enjoy a range of Mexican wines, craft beers, Mezcal, as well as insects, cheeses, and other tasty delights!! Raul and I will teach you about the foods and drinks that you try, the importance of them for Mexican culture, where they come, and how they are cultivated.
Other things to note
I cannot cater for vegetarians. We walk up two flights of stairs when going to terrace spots, the rest of the tour is flat terrain. If there are less than 2 people one place will be skipped.

I am obsessed with food, my passion led me to become a qualified permaculturist where I have traveled to many countries to learn about farming. I can design growing systems (for any size land) based on natural ecosystems without pesticides. I am also a professional events manager where I have organized events for 5,000 - 200,000 people.

During this experience, you will also meet other passionate food experts, such as Raul who is a certified Mexican chef, he will educate the group on Mexican wines, beers & cheeses as well as regional foods.

I am an experienced traveler where I have visited over 70 countries either for work, living or pleasure. I want to share with you all the things that I have enjoyed learning about this wonderful country, plenty of history and interesting stories to be told during this tour!

unfortunately this tour is not a gourmet tour as described. here is why : the first two stops were ok and we visited a couple of terraces, and Michaela is a very nice young woman from England that have lived in Mexico for only a few years. after this we went to the market and first due to the holiday many were closed. wish that would have been thought of beforehand, and perhaps another day would have been better to visit. But the worst part of the tour was at the end, where we were supposed to meet the chef and have prepared delicacies incl cheeses and explanation of the wine etc.. well the so called chef could not care less when we showed up and had not prepared anything for us, as he was more excited about a sports game he had just gotten tickets for. therefore Michaela had to improvise and tried to offer her (non) knowledge about the cheese and wine ( didnt even know the grapes of the wines), and the chef was even there all the time but did not care to talk to us or prepare anything for us while we were at his business at the market. we left very upset, this was not the gourmet tour that was promised. the reason we booked this trip was because gourmet was mentioned and we would get a special experience with a chef and explanation. therefore I can not recommend this tour. the next day we booked another food tour and it was absolutely fantastic for half the price.

A MUST if you are a foodie and want to explore in a relaxed way hidden food spots in Centro. I would not have found or gone to the places on my own. You also get directly in contact with some chefs. The tour was enriched by historical background, so its not just hunting for food but also you get some cultural knowledge. Michelle, THANKS for that great afternoon, it was really great fun!
